Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] New firmware update today

2010-06-16 Thread 0xdeadbeef

Yeah, again Logitech failed to fix the main issues with the Alarm/MYSB
connection etc.
Wow - even -I- would have thought that 8 (!) months after the release
should be sufficient for a one man team to finally get the basics to
work. Shame on you, Logitech. There is really no excuse for this.

Why would I say they failed to fix it if it wasn't so? Of course I
tested it. 2nd morning after the update and I had the backup alarm
again. Indeed it was the usual crap: the correct channel was played for
a few seconds, then the backup alarm, then it stopped, then it played
the backup alarm again. Then I tried to start the station manually, but
again, the Radio played the backup alarm and stopped a few seconds
later. Then I lost patience, cursed all Logitech managers and
Squeezebox developers and turned it off. After I got back to my bedroom
several hours later, it showed the weather screensaver though. So not
even turning off works at last.

I guess even if there was a theoretical maximum of faults one could
make in a single function, the Logitech developers would easily
 overcome this limit.

I too experience this behaviour with the new and improved fixed FW. I'm
beginning to think they can't possibly test these firmwares on real SBRs
and must use some sort of virtual console / machine that simulates the
SBR.

0xdeadbeef; best not complain to much here or ye shall be booed down by
the multitudes of hardcore Logitech fans. I would recommend calling the
fine folks in the Logitech support organization like I did. Hopefully
they won't tell you they weren't aware a new firmware was released like
they told me. That was enough for me to hang up. I give up, it's just
not worth the frustration.

Good luck to all other SBR users, if you drive by my house you can
pick-up my radio in the refuse bin by the side of the road - I'm done
with it. A replacement gift has been ordered for my wife.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Now Playing artwork is not updating! HELP

 Hi ks10,
I think you got it wrong (or I did not wrote it clear): RBB Inforadio
is the ONLY station where artwork is displayed on my radio!

it might help the developer that answered your question to answer his
question more fully. not really helpful to point out one station that
works as he doesn't know what stations you expect to work (and since
many stations do not have art work it is hard for him to guess). So it
would be useful for you to pick out, say, 2 or 3 specific stations,
with URL links, for the developer to test on his end. For example, I
know that radioparadise has artwork, and works for me.

Does it show all these behaviors also when used normally for playing

Honestly: I use the Radio so rarely to listen to music during the
daytime that I can't really say much about its reliability in this use
case. Indeed yesterday I used it to listen to music in my bedroom for
the first time in months and then it worked.
However, considering all the known quirks (resetting screensaver
settings etc.) that happen independently of the messed alarm
functionality, I would be surprised if playing a stream really worked
flawlessly for a longer period (1h).

@Nojelc: switching off at first try never really worked for me. Usually
I pull the plug if I want to be sure that it stays off. Ad while this is
ridiculous of course, there are so many other things that are much more
annoying that I kinda stopped bothering.
About the bugtracker: Sorry, I lost my faith in it years ago. None of
my bug reports or improvement suggestions of the last years ever
survived. Instead they were merged with unrelated or less precise
reports and then set to resolved some months or years later without
being resolved.
A bug tracker is a neat idea, but it simply doesn't work. Especially if
there are hundreds of people writing reports and only two or three who
have to manage them and thus tend to resolve them one way or the
other.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Auto-dimmer

2010-06-16 Thread frb63

Time to revisit this issue. I have researched some of the brightness
discussion during the 7.5.0 development, but can't find where a
decision was made regarding the proposed 30% brightness increase when a
control is touched. 7.5.1 does not fix this defect.

I can't imagine they would intentionally disable this feature. Wouldn't
one assume that the average user wants a display that is dim while
sleeping but temporarily bright while operating?

Anyone else totally frustrated by this??? Any developers monitoring?
please comment.

Still digesting the other 7.5.1 fixes.

Thanks,
Randy

I guess the developers can easily see which stations are providing
 artwork.
But of course it is know problem to mention some of those that are not
 working (anymore):

 1. GotRadio Forever Fifties
 2. KABL
 3. Deutsche Welle (Bonn)
 4. RTL 102.5 Italian Style
 5. KVTA (Port Hueneme)

 Thanks, hoping for help,
 Carsten

this should help. Note that there are thousands of potential stations,
some with art, some without. There is no way the developers know which
ones you've tried, as I assume you've not tried several thousand
different stations. Good luck with a resolution for the issue.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Battery warning even there is no battery installed

2010-06-16 Thread kam_aw

Recently, my SB radio was upgraded to firmware 7.5.1.r8837. It is
connected wirelessly. I don't have battery installed. Now it random
plays a warning sound with the battery charging-like animiated icon.
It seems to happen every few minutes.

I don't know if it is conincident. It seems to happen most often when
I have laptop running. Have you seen this problem and solve it? I am
at a point that I need to unplug SB radio or reset it back to factory
setting.

Thanks,
Kam
