the headphone out is supposed to double as a 'LINE OUT'

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Headphone Output

2011-01-18 Thread andynormancx

The headphone output on my Radio is definitely not quite as loud as the
one on the Boom. However it goes as loud as I would ever want
headphones to go and more importantly doesn't distort in the way that
some cheap and nasty devices would when turned up to close to 100%.

But yes, I do need to turn it up to 75+ to get the volume I want. And
that is on relatively sensitive headphones.

[SlimDevices: Radio] SB Radio Alarm Questions/Issues

2011-01-18 Thread steve781

I have been using multiple alarms for the last month with pretty good
results. I have alarm 1 set for Mon-Fri 6AM and alarm 2 for Sat/Sun
9AM. I play a stream from Favorites that is a commercial FM station
(KFOG). I'm on the latest firmware and I use mySB as the server.

My problems begin after the alarm is triggered which is a positive. How
should I shut the alarm off? If I use the dial and select turn off
alarm, the alarm will shut off until 6:01 and then it will start
playing the stream again. It seems like turning off the alarm should
disable it until the next day, not the next minute. I've also tried
hitting the power button, but I get the same result. On the other hand,
if I let the alarm play (let's say I like the song), it will shut off at
6:01.

I know it's a nit, but I'm hoping I have configured something wrong and
I can correct this behavior.

[SlimDevices: Radio] alarm without popup?

2011-01-18 Thread pallfreeman

I recently replaced an Clarus Plus with a Squeezebox Radio, to start
playing a random selection of music at about 8AM in the spare room,
which just happens to be where I get dressed in the morning. The Clarus
streams from SBS just fine, but has a poor display. I got fed up of
coming downstairs, wondering what's that that's playing and needing
to go to a computer to find out.

So, this morning I'm in that situation. I go to my shiny new SB Radio,
only to find that the Now Playing display is obscured by a popup
asking me to either Snooze or End Alarm. If I had been woken up by
this, there's no way I'd be able to manipulate the scroll wheel/button:
if I were coding a special mode for the alarm it would have to be
something like press any button and the radio plays louder. :)

What I really want is to just have the radio switch on at a
predetermined time. I don't need any snoozes, or fade-ins, I just want
it playing already when I stagger downstairs, and I want to be able to
see what it's playing.

How do I accomplish this? Surely not cron and CLI?

Hi,

I set the alarm on my Radio at 6:30 today 18th of January.

As usual the Fallback alarm fired instead of the radio stream. Note
that when I select the radio stream, for example by hitting the preset
buttons - there is no problem connecting to the radio station. It
usually takes just 3-4 seconds max.

I have attached log file.

It would be great if anybody can read anything out of the file! :-)

3-4 seconds starting time is the problem in your case.

According to the logs, the following happens:
The Radio starts the stream at 06:29:59.
It checks if there is any output at 06:30:00 (i.e. after one second)
Your stream is not playing it this time = the fallback sounds.

I guess you need to try another stream.

You should watch (or vote) on the bugreport mentioned earlier

about making the alarm less strict (so that it maybe waits a little bit
longer before it decides that the stream is not good enough to wake you

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] My SBR alarm blog

2011-01-18 Thread Mnyb

But almost no radiostations at all start within a second ?

Most buffer a while before start-up even rock solid good stations ?

A station must be allowed some initial buffer time.

If I take radio paradise and and a stopwatch from pressing play
watching buffer fill up then audio it is 6-7 seconds, this is true for
most stations only radio close to me like Sveriges Radio P3 Street
starts within 2 seconds.

Other buffer for a even longer time ?

You can not consider a stream dead until the user selectable max buffer
time has timed out: default 3s max 30s

or the Radio Station Timeout o to 60 seconds .

It can be so that by allowing long buffertimes you get long start-up
times as the player buffers untill the buffer is 100% or the buffer
time is reached, whichever come first .
I have the buffertime maxed out as I think it's fun to try mysterius
station around the globe :)

Radio Station Buffer Seconds
When playing an Internet stream, the player buffers a small amount of
data before beginning playback. Specify the amount of audio data to
buffer, in seconds from 3 to 30. The default value is 3 seconds. If you
experience stuttering audio, increasing this value may help.

Radio Station Timeout
You can set the length of time that Squeezebox Server will try to
connect to an internet radio station or other source before giving up.
Enter the amount of time, in seconds, below.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] I still dont understand why I cant get 970 am wgtk

2011-01-18 Thread toby10

There are numerous ways to attempt to hunt down a rogue URL
- email the station and ask for a direct stream URL (not embedded
player on their site)
- see if their web site has URL's for media players (WMP, iTunes,
WinAmp)
- use a URL sniffer if all they have is an embedded player (finds the
actual direct stream URL, sometimes)

Or just search for the station info from a number of online music
streaming services, click on their play link, media player launches,
plays that stream, double click stream name for URL info, cut paste
as needed.
www.ShoutCast.com (or WinAmp, same thing)
www.RadioTime.com (kinda redundant as this is what SqueezeBox uses)
www.Reciva.com
http://vtuner.com/setupapp/guide/asp/BrowseStations/Searchform.asp
http://dir.xiph.org/index.php

And sometimes, after all that, you still cannot find a SB playable URL
or no URL exists other than their embedded player.

Even SBS server can help.
If it's an AAC stream it won't show up when on MySB but may well show
up if on SBS, cut paste into MySB Favorites (note: only works with
Radio and Touch)

Yeah, random here as well across all Bitrates except 128k. Sometimes I
am offered results, sometimes the error.
Any chance my bitrate limit set to 128k is confusing the Choose
Bitrate option?

It's kinda like the last few months of ShoutCast before the eviction
from their servers.
I would randomly get zero results within a Genre when I just selected a
stream from that Genre 3 minutes ago, so it would say those 77 streams I
was just offered within that Genre are now all gone 3 minutes later
(zero results).
Again, this random issue was before, NOT now, all Genres are loading
fine now.

Love the irony After all their bi**ching to update to their new

Working great otherwise. I much prefer my own bitrate filter then pick
a genre anyway. But I can see people picking the new bitrate option
alone.
To be honest, I don't think there are any 320k streams currently on

From the logs (the interesting parts):

06:30:11 fallback actually starts
06:31:22 timeout-message for the radio stream

So no need to tune anything - the stream (or your internet-connection)
is flawed at your alarm time.

Maybe this is because your internet connection is down (sort of some
dial-up time)?
This would explain, why you say the station starts within 3 seconds
when you try it later on.

I'd try some different streams. If we get the network timeout for
different streams, then we need to look into your network/router.

[SlimDevices: Radio] SqueezeBox radio reboots on connection to *some* streams

2011-01-18 Thread foehammer

I have noticed that when I go to connect to some streams , it wont
connect
it just gets hung up on the connecting part then reboots ,...is this
normal
I think the station was KAST but ill have to note it next time , do
some stations use a format the radio cannot handle ? there was one
other time when I connected to one that was just garbled ,...its not
too often but every once in a while it does happen

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Headphone Output

2011-01-18 Thread deeplfo

Thanks for the replies. I definitely can live with the level it puts
out, I was just surprised how different the levels are.

btw, as a former short-waver :-), I am really enjoying this radio a
lot.

Thanks again,
Mohsen
