[SlimDevices: Radio] Station blocked by broadcaster

2011-08-15 Thread vrette

As of this morning, when I try to tune in WXRT in Chicago on my SB
Radio, I get an audible message stating "This station is currently
unavailable" and text on the display that says "Station blocked by
broadcaster." At the same time, I can listen to WXRT through their
website, and access it as well through Tunein.com. I'm not experiencing
this problem with any other Chicago local radio stations. The URL for
the stream doesn't appear to work in SB Server or mySB either. I've
never seen this before. Any ideas as to what is going on?

2011-08-15 Thread Perreault985

I just had the same problem this morning with WBZ 1030AM in Boston. I
noticed that this station is no longer available as a radio station
selection in the menu, it's gone! But, I am able to listen to the audio
stream on my PC from the CBS website. They are using radio.com as the
host site. If I enter the "radio.com" url into my squeezebox favorites
menu, an error message says the format can not be read. I wonder if it
might be something to do with CBS stations that are blocking their
content to Logitech?

I guess I'll be listening to something else now. The reason I bought a
Squeezebox is because my computer has other audio coming out at times,
and I want to be able to listen to audio files stored on my computer or
listen to the radio without having a conflict. The Squeezebox solved
all that as well as bad reception from regular broadcast. CBS just
lost my "business" by making themselves unavailable.

I cannot get BBC Radio 4 Extra to play with a Squeezebox Radio via SBS
7.5.x running on a QNAP NAS box.

I notice the Radio 4 Extra URL seems to point to Radio 7 (which I think

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] SB Radio troubles

2011-08-15 Thread knutb

There's definitely something sub-optimal going on with the wireless
client software. Having reverted to using the local server (rather than
the preferred Squeezebox.com), I find that the radio nowadays does not
distinguish between what used to be the "red and blue" connect status:
Although certainly connected to the wlan, if the server computer may
have gone to sleep, the radio will now show the red wifi icon and the
device will abandon all attempts at reconnecting before manually using
the (to me, at least, new advanced function) "Repair network". I guess
this would be something similar to the Windows ipconfig /release +
ipconfig /renew? (Good function - as these matters stand, would be
useful to be able to put that into a customized main menu, but it seems
that re-implementing this function has not received priority in 7.6?)

Browsing this forum, I'm certainly surprised by the number of trouble
issues/bugs that have appeared in what seemed to be well-functioning
software a couple of main releases ago. Seems like the SB community is
extremely dedicated to their setups, but for how long should one go on
accepting the hours of troubleshooting & fidegeting with our wlans?
With other home devices, we are after all rather used to wlan
connections being fairly transparent as far as a trouble source goes?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Station blocked by broadcaster

2011-08-15 Thread runlikethewind

Indeed this is a CBS issue. They are restricting all streaming feeds to
TuneIn. They want you to use radio.com or yahoo apps that are found on
Android and iOS mobile devices. This leaves SB users out in the cold.
This really really bad. Five of my presets this morning are gone. Only
thing left to do is complain to CBS, but since they are trying to direct
all users to their proprietary apps to get more advertising dollars this
is not likely to change much.

I tried using the radio.com app this morning and it just crashes.
Really great CBS.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] BBC iplayer extras

2011-08-15 Thread bpa

Playing live radio is a BBCiPlayer plugin issue not a BBCiPlayerExtra
plugin issue.

In the case of Radio4 Extra live being initiated from BBCiPlayer plugin
I think if the preference is AAC live or WMA - then the BBC supplies the
wrong URL to the plugin.

The WMA R4 Extra URL is still the R7 URL but it seem that part of the
BBC didn't tell the iPlayer developers.

I think the BBCiPlayer plugin is being updated to correct the BBC
problem - please look at the BBCiPlayer plugin thread for details on
updates.

Their website is a joke. When I google the local station, the google
result still shows "Jagger and Henson", who have been gone since
mid-April.

One of the reasons I bought a sqeezebox was to get the radio OFF my
computer speakers. Preaching to the choir here, but when surfing the
internet, various audio comes on and at different volumes. Putting it
on a different device is the only reasonable solution.

They may have found a way to corral more ad dollars, but at the expense
of listeners (zero sum gain there). There are a thousand stations on my
squeezebox. It's not real hard to listen to a different one, compared
to jumping through hoops for CBS.

The problem is CBS, not Logitech. Find where else those stations are
offered (if any) and maybe Logitech can add that access portal.
Some places to look:
LiquidCompass.net
IheartRadio.com
Reciva.com
vTuner.com

But I suspect CBS is yanking all such access to all non-CBS portals.

There's nothing Logitech can do. They don't have any contract which
would allow them to force CBS to re-enable access for Squeezebox users
specifically.

It's either an issue between TuneIn and CBS, or it's a unilateral CBS
decision. Either way it's CBS who are at fault here.

This is a classic internet radio issue - so many US stations use
proprietary software seeminly to force listeners into using a web-based

I don't get the rationale of pushing ads to radio listeners. I can

effective than 'audio' ads - they can stream audo and just catch your

much more difficult to do with visuals. On the other hand, I just tend

Just got this off the Logitech forum. I gave it a try and it works. No
art, but I can live without it for radio.

Was emailed this from FROM CBS INTERACTIVE MUSIC GROUP -

Due to licensing issues, the station you were listening to on TuneIn is
no longer available.

On desktop to continue listening to your favorite CBS stations, go to
Radio.com.
For mobile users, you can download the official Radio.com application
from the iTunes store or your Android Market place.

For internet radio device listeners, you can access stations directly
as follows:

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/KROQFMAAC.plsOR

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/KROQFM.pls

Please replace the station call sign with the appropriate call sign.
After tuning in, you can ‘bookmark’ or set the station as a preset for
future reference.

Why bother? Switch to a non-greedy broadcaster! In a globalised world,
this licencing excuse is pathetic.

Apple have reserves greater than the US government - gazillions - yet
they are engaging in a pathetic lawsuit to prevent Samsung introducing
a tablet computer. They already have billions of sheep who are
unlikely to switch to an identikit model.

How much more do they actually want ... I suspect they want everything
and will use any trick in the book to achieve it! Banksters, media
purveyors, they are all the same greedy army devouring averything they
can at whatever the cost.

As The Who said - Don't Get Fooled Again!

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Station blocked by broadcaster

2011-08-15 Thread mzup

This is what I was able to do.
I went to http://www.radio-locator.com/
Found my blocked stations. Click to open the playlist in VLC.
Then copied the link to mysqueezebox.com favorites.
Now I can connect my radio to mysqueezebox site and access these
stations.

ejnj: It's a playlist file you need something like vlc or winamp to
open these. They will not open within a browser if that is what you are
trying to do.

The solution worked for me.

Try adding a favorite in squeezebox and use the url

Good luck

Businesses have lots of rules and laws they need to comply with. For
broadcasters, licensing rules are foremost among the many. Ignoring
them would be asinine and ultimately unnecessarily expensive.

If you find a company that you think is more focused or successful in
conducting its business than its peers, there's a solution: be a
capitalist and buy that stock!

Understood, but I think the point is they are using licensing as an
excuse for what is really much more about generating more ad revenue by
pushing listeners to CBS Radio Android and iOS apps, along with their
web sites that are chock full of advertising.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Turns itself on

2011-08-15 Thread lonewolfette9847

Awaiting the update... double checked on my Radio. Came home to find
the radio turned on, but in stop mode. WiFi icon was white as it
usually is. Most of the time, I find it on the clock screen but with
my selected wallpaper.

My main concerns are that it doesn't suddenly start randomly playing
(no one else in the house would know how to turn it off without pulling
the plug) & that my alarms come on when they're supposed to.

Got it, I missed the nuance, it was a BS comment. Easy enough to
understand why they push listeners to portals that give them more
revenue opportunities. It's a business, not a public service.

I cannot believe CBS could be this stupid. They are pissing off some of
their most loyal listeners. Who goes out and buys a $200+ internet
radio except the most die hard fans! Idiots. I will definitely be
writing to CBS and their sponsors about this and I encourage everyone
who reads this to do the same. If we don't tell them we'll make them
lose money they'll never listen.

That said, can someone please provide a link that would allow me to
listen to 660 WFAN

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Station blocked by broadcaster

2011-08-15 Thread mshumeyk

Thanks to all who posted regarding the sudden loss of CBS streaming on
the Squeezebox. I too just lost 5 of my 6 presets. I grew up with WCBS
880 the great sound quality of the Squeezebox and with the battery
option the ability to bring it anywhere around the house. (I live in
upstate NY now and the Squeezebox sure beats the weak signal on a high
quality AM radio). I definitely will complain to CBS. By the way, Tune
In on my iPhone has also lost the CBS stations. I'm not sure how CBS
benefits from that.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Station blocked by broadcaster

2011-08-15 Thread edm1820

I was hit with this with a lot of my talk radio stations as well. I
found a work around that seems to work. Go to a site like reciva and
search for the station you want. then click the 'listen icon'. it will
download the pls file . copy the url link and add it as a favorite. (if
it opens your mp3 program, you can get the link from in there)

Here is the WXRT link.

Code:

WXRT HD2 feed:

I got these from the Vtuner Internet Radio page. I clicked on the feed
and opened the .m3u file in Winamp. Then, I right clicked on the stream
name for "file info". I have been using this work-around for a while
now.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Push snooze - time before it happens

2011-08-15 Thread Muele

Just a small follow-up. With the current firmware 7.6.1r-something, the
delay is (almost) gone. I have had no change in server and network, so
it must be a change in the firmware (I run it on a 7.5.3 server). I
have noticed two other changes in the radios alarm-functionality, so
probably someone tidied up the code.

The two other changes: decreased sensibility in the knob, when the
snooze-menu os open. And it used to change the alarm-time one hour back
whenever I wanted to adjust the time of an existing alarm. That bug is
gone now.

Sorry for thread'omancing, but i thought it was relevant.
