Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Using SB Radio..

2011-09-10 Thread Mnyb

It keeps the time for the next alarm if the network fails, so it does
not keep the whole shedule.
So it should be conected to the server every day, then it gets
refreshed regarding next alarm time.

I would not trust mysb.com to handle alarms.

It doesn't make sense to me that I can tune into Bloomberg radio from
ANY PC and yet cannot listen to it via any of my SB Players.

Now I doubt that anybody on the planet will run out and spend the money
on Sirius radio merely to get BBR. So all it does is reduce viewership
for Bloomberg.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time

2011-09-10 Thread chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu

Either the fix that logitech have made at their server (perhaps
preventing dropouts or off-time), or my constant de-enabling and
re-enabling each night, are making the radio turn on, correct time,
correct stream, including today.

This period of correct behavior must now be 10 days or so.

I have not yet had the courage to let it go without the
de-enable/re-enable, and I might run this test next week sometime.

One strange thing 2 mornings ago: the alarm came ON fine, but did not
turn OFF after the predetermined 1 hour setting. Wondered if their
server is still suffering 'brown-outs' or full off periods, as a
potential explanation.

The radios have backup alarms (beeping, various noises, disco music)
that play when the network connection fails. And they keep their own
time separate from the server). So it will be fine 99% of the time. I
was just focusing on your statement that the alarm clock aspect is
critical

My bedside booms have always been rock solid on alarms for years. And I
like the radios as well. But I have to say, given your desire to mostly
have a classic alarm clock with snooze, etc., a $7 small form clock
radio (or just alarm) would probably be a better choice.

p.s. If I absolutely must get up at a certain time, I use my Boom, my
iphone alarm, and an old fashioned alarm clock. I rarely have to get up
at a certain time, but when I do, I can't afford to miss and don't fully
trust any networked appliance (boom, radio, iphone) to work 100% of the
time.

thanks for your replies, guys

I already own Transporter and SB3, running latest 7.6.2 beta..
(which is running quite smoothly, all the bugs I reported got fixed, so
I am lucky :) )

SBS is running 24/7 in my place, but the storage box is going to sleep
at night and I do not want to wake it up..

Actually, I want alarm to function pretty much as for usual alarm
clock:
big display so we can read at night, snooze, etc.
and it must be very reliable.
My main objective is to have a good alarm clock, all the rest is a
bonus..

btw, what is the power supply type? Is it 100-240V universal one?

is there a nice weather app?

I'm also using SBS exclusively, but can't say that mine is not buggy at
all. My radio suffers more than my SB2 & Classic from occasional lockups
and reboots (esp. when playing SiriusXM).

Still, it's a pretty reliable performer, and I'm glad I have it.

For me, it's the best bedside radio I've owned. Some people complain
about the UI, and it is not perfect, but in my experience it does the
job well enough.

michael123;656750 Wrote:
> - features-wise: is it possible to add multiple alarms schedule?
Yes. I don't know if there's an upper limit (I've only used two), but
my guess is that you can add at least five or eight alarm schedules,
maybe more.

michael123;656750 Wrote:
> is there a snooze button?
Not a dedicated snooze button, no. That's the main reason why people
complain about the UI. But if you push the big center knob, it acts
like a snooze button, and if you push the on/off button, it turns the
alarm all the way off, so I'm good with that.

michael123;656750 Wrote:

It works with either Squeezebox Server, or MySqueezebox.com. So you
need either a local PC, or a working Internet connection.

michael123;656750 Wrote:

MySqueezebox.com complain more about bugginess than SBS users do.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Using SB Radio..

2011-09-10 Thread michael123

Hi

I'd like to ask few questions:

- how SBR is compared to standalone bed-side radios? Is the UI
ergonomics good enough?

- features-wise: is it possible to add multiple alarms schedule? is
there a snooze button?

- is it possible to work autonomously (locally)?

- how buggy is the software/firmware?

thanks,
