Ok, I just checked it with my Radio. You only get "Sleep at end of
song" when you press Sleep while the radio is actually playing
individual songs. It goes straight to "15 minutes" if it is playing
internet radio or not playing at all. Makes sense. :)

The actual functionality is in the server software. The Radio just
passes the button messages to the server, and the server then decides
when the radio is going to sleep. So the lack of visual feedback from
the reassigned button might just was well be a server-side problem.

But if you want a default sleep time at the first button press rather
than cycling through different values, you could do that with either a
server plugin that handles the button, or an applet on the Radio that
sends the appropriate CLI command. The latter might even work when
connected to MySB.

I fully agree, and a frustrating software issue that Logitech needs to
address. When all your wifi devices work except this one, the problem
isn't with your wifi network, it's with this one device. I am planning
to call Logitech tech support one of these days because they've been
helpful in the past, but I have a feeling they will tell me this issue
is not known to them and that they don't know what to do.

I have the same issue as OP and don't think my router is at fault. I
have quite a few items connected to a dual wifi network and they have
no issues. This is a fault that started with an upgrade on the radio.
My radio had worked for over 12 months with no issues, now i check it
each night before going to bed as I hate the default alarm.

My unit does not drop off so quick as yours, normally get a few days. I
have also noticed that when it drops the wifi connection the unit
becomes very slow to respond.

Might try the unit connected via cable for a few days to see what
happens as well, but I have no cable connection in my bedroom so that
would only identify an issue with wifi only.

With so many have issues I am sure this is a software issue.

If it can be done from the remote then the functionality is present in
the software of the SBR. All it needs is that a press and hold function
should bring up the 'sleep timer' screen so that the required delay can
be selected.
Surely that is not beyond the skills of the programmers.

Good point. I don't use a true static IP for my Radio, but I do use my
router's "static DHCP" to reserve the same IP address for the Radio at
all times.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio loses wifi daily

2011-12-29 Thread dlevine

Well, I bought a new wireless router (Apple Time Capsule, which is the
same as AirPort Extreme plus a hard disk for backups) and that seems to
have resolved my problem. It's been three days since I installed it
(took maybe half an hour) and I haven't had a dropout since. With the
new router, I also get the correct show title and image for Internet
radio programs more consistently. And my new Nook e-reader will
connect to the new router, which it would not do at all with the old
one. So it seems that the router was at fault all along.

Thanks to everyone who commented, and happy new year!

Still too many steps. It should be possible to follow a simple
procedure with your eyes closed, like pressing one button a set number
of times to set the sleep delay required.
As ciarmer indicated, it can be done using the press and hold feature
but there is no way to see where you are in the stepping process. If
you want a 90 minute delay (which I do), then you have press and hold 5
times. If you lose count or one or more presses isn't long enough to
register, you have no idea where you are and you then have to go
through the home menu to resolve the situation. It's just not good
enough!
This is such a standard feature of alarm radios that I would have
expected Logitech to make sure it was easy to access on the SBR. I
accept that one always has to learn to adapt to new technology but
simplicity of use is the prime requirement and that is certainly not
the case here.

Yes, that does work but, while playing around with the functions, I
discovered a simpler method...I've assigned the 'sleep' function to the
'home' button so a long press puts the closed eyelid icon on the bottom
line of the screen to confirm 'sleep' mode is activated. If you them
turn the large knob, the delay selection appears on the screen so you
can then rotate the knob to select the required delay and press it once
to complete the process.
