Looks like I'm going to try and restore the radio back to the
 Squeezebox firmware.

If you're able to find the procedure, please tell us here: I would be
interested to do it too

[SlimDevices: Radio] cpu in stand-by mode, why?

2012-03-16 Thread CoolRaoul

Hello all,

I'm discovering the squeezebox radio and I've found something that I
think abnormal.

When my device is in stand-by mode (having pressed power), when
connected via ssh, I see that there are still two processes consuming
(a lot of) cpu (and rapidly consuming battery).

Is this normal?

Here they are:

Code:

  CPU: 0% usr 5% sys 0% nic 92% idle 0% io 0% irq 0% sirq
  Load average: 0.19 0.27 0.32 1/66 4008
PID PPID USER STAT VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND
  776 741 root S 7296 12% 4% jive_alsa -d default -c dac -b 2
-p 2 -s 16 -f 3
  741 1 root S33836 54% 2% /usr/bin/jive

Any idea?

If you want it really off press for a longer time .

jive is probably squeezeplay itself the actual software that is the
squeezebox standby can have a clock screensaver for example thus the
 software must run .

I supose squeezeplay requires the alsa soundsystem be up and running if
you press play on the device and wants audio of any kind .

jive_alsa could be started only when needed.

If you'd run it via wifi you see that the wifi is on to otherwise it
would not be possible to start it from the network .

wifi subsystem is managed by different processes (wpa_supplicant and
wpa_cli) which are alive but does not consume much cpu

 ir is also active .

But a long press on the power button really powers it off

Yes I know that, I'm only trying to understand what's the system is
doing when in stand-by mode.

I think that it should be only be passively waiting for events, not
actively using the cpu
This looks like some kind of badly programmed polling mode to me.
