Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
This is what Ubiquiti say: -"The main purpose of enabling band steering is to decongest the 2.4GHz due to the high number of users connected. Band steering allows users to connect to a 5GHz band which provides faster speed, and less interference, thus reducing the congestion on the 2.4 GHz. However, 5GHz only works on a limited range compared to 2.4 GHz. It cannot penetrate solid objects such as walls. Therefore, the signal wouldnt be that reliable when you are roaming. Enabling or disabling band steering on your UniFi depends on the users preference and the need to steer into a 5GHz band. It would make more sense to stay on 2.4 GHz if there are only a few users connected to your network. Although there would be more interference than the 5GHz band, it provides better coverage. Band steering is not always recommended. Users can always customize band steering per device name depending on need.""- Lounge: Transporter>Audio Synthesis DAX Decade>Audio Research LS22>Krell FPB300>Wilson Benesch Act 1's + 2 x Velodyne SPL1000 sub's Kitchen: Touch>Topping DAC>Arcam Solo>Anthony Gallo Micro's+Sub, Joggler controller Office: DAC32>Acoustic Energy AE1 Active's, Joggler controller Garage: Boom>QAcoustics 7000s subwoofer Bedroom: Radio Shed: Radio Workshop: Boom Garden 1: SB3>JVC amp>Rock outdoor speakers Garden 2: SB3>JVC amp>Rock outdoor speakers Heuer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2543 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio disconnect from LMS, still active on wifi...
Whatever is going on it seems to be related to the AP or router settings. In my case one Radio (UE version) lost wifi after about 12 hours following a reboot but the Logitech original Radio's had no problem. I saw both the red and blue icons. I tried a Vonets ethernet bridge and that would not connect to WiFi at all; a second one gave the same result so it is not just Radio's that are having a problem. In my case turning off band steering on my Unifi AP's (not Wifi6) solved the problem and the UE radio now works flawlessly. I tried wlanpoke to no avail and have the latest community f/w. Maybe worth exploring your router/AP settings and switch everything practicable to off including mesh working and band steering. Seems new routers come with these set to on to improve customer experience in a modern environment. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
I have a full Unifi system with four AP's (no Wi-Fi 6) and I lost connection to one of my three Radio's last week. Tried installing wlanpoke with no improvement and tried two different Vonets bridge's but neither would connect reliably. Whilst troubleshooting I found both the Radio and Vonets would connect reliably to the AP in my office but not to any of the other three AP's. A swift comparison of the AP settings revealed three had 'band steering' switched on whereas the Office AP did not. Switched all off and Radio now connects happily and no need for Vonets. Interestingly this setting only affected the UE Radio, other two 'normal' Radio's are not affected by band steering. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio keeps losing wireless connection and won't reconnect - any ideas?
You could try installing a Unifi AP-AC Lite access point. I have four of them and the Wi-Fi is rock solid. They make very good and affordable 'prosumer' kit which has transformed our house Wi-Fi and we now have 40 clients (iOS, Android, IOT etc etc) and nothing fails. You will need to run the Unifi Controller to manage the devices but that is available free in the cloud or you can buy a dedicated Unifi controller device or run it on an RPi as I do. A real 'command and control' dashboard on your PC that is also fun to use. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio would not connect to LMS 8: "Update required"
Not tried the AI optimise myself as we do not have much interference although the 'Connect high performance clients to 5 GHz only' works well. Fast Roaming beta option seems to cause problems though. The debugging metrics provides a good way of discovering issues. The advice is to set 2.4Ghz radio's to low power and 5Ghz radio's to medium power especially if there are high Rx retries. Again almost everyone who opens up the (amazing and comprehensive) Controller interface set the power of the radio's to maximum thinking they will improve performance but, counter intuitively, it can do the opposite especially with older devices. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio would not connect to LMS 8: "Update required"
I run a Ubiquiti Unifi mesh network with four AP's, a USG and a Controller (on an RPi) handling 71 clients. The entire system is rock solid and the Radio/Boom's/SB3's connect work flawlessly. Whilst the Unifi system is great you do need to be careful with some of the configuration settings. If you have changed anything in the Controller I suggest you go back to the original settings and check with the Unifi Forum before making adjustments. It works perfectly out of the box but there is a huge temptation to start tweaking things with over a hundred options. Some of these may be useful in a corporate environment but none will make much difference at home. Specifically do not use 'Auto-optimise network' and do not enable 'Advanced Features' for there be monsters! I just fixed my re-buffering problems and flaky Wi-Fi. For some reason the SB Radio does not like having two Squeezebox servers running at the same time on different PC's. Worth checking there are no other instances of LMS alive. In my case I set up a new instance of LMS on a new PC and left the other instance running on a different network PC as a fall back. Result was the Radio Wi-Fi icon constantly changing between red and white and the players re-buffering. I can sit here now and switch on the second LMS and immediately see the problem.
