Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Sluggish Interface

2009-10-19 Thread Matt Wise

The LUA SqueezePlay UI work right now is focusing (obviously) on fixing
major bugs... but trust me that performance is always something we're
paying attention to. As Phillip mentioned, a recent update before the
release (r7790) removed some debug code that lead to a huge improvement
in the UI responsiveness and fluidity.

I would recommend two things...
a) its possible that a known memory leak in the Now Playing screen
has lead to your slow UI feel... does it go away when you reboot the
unit? If so, when 7.4.1 is released (very very soon), it should solve
the issue.

b) if the issue is present for you on a fresh-bootup, I'd recommend
taking a small movie of the issues your seeing (most modern digital
cameras can do this for you), and opening a bug @
http://bugs.slimdevices.com with the movie attached. Try to keep the
movie small please.

If the issue is a new one... expect it may take a little while in the
priority list to get to it, but rest assured that as we continue to
develop SqueezePlay-based products the performance, reliability and
"general wow-factor" will only continue to improve.

care to give us some details? are you running 7.4.0 SBS, 7.4.1 (beta),
7.5.0 (REALLY beta)? what revision of the Radio firmware were you
presented?

We have not released a new 7.4.0 firmware, FYI. Its still 7.4.0 r7790.

It wasn't known when we released it... it was "known" after we released
it and found the bug. :/

It is actually fixed in the 7.4.1 nightlies, and a 7.4.1 release is
coming very very soon.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Improve default "Now Playing" layout

2009-10-16 Thread Matt Wise

Keep in mind that not everyone is reading their display from far away...
so there will simply not be "one" Now Playing screen that solves
everyones wishes and desires. I use my Radio on my desk at work, about
12" from my hand -- so I very much like smaller text and the new
full-screen artwork. However, I agree that from 10+ft away its basically
useless (though at least with full screen artwork, its prettier!).

Ultimately I think its reasonable to go in a direction of customizable
Now Playing screens on all SP-based products... as each person is going
to use them differently. Its not an easy job -- so I strongly encourage
the community to try to help with that in any productive way that they
can.

Call support. There's a known (serious) bug with 7.4.0 on the readynas.
There is a work-around that support can walk you through.

Did the screen pop up with a "SSH is now enabled, here's your user and
password" screen? (paraphrased) If not, SSH didnt enable properly -- in
that case, try rebooting and re-enabling.

Out of curiosity, have you tried moving the Radio into somewhere else
in your house perhaps farther away from any possible interference? (even
a closet or something..)

:P I guess my sarcasm didnt show through... I work in Engineering @
SMBU, it took ~2-3 hrs to get my baby's (from sales) from about 75 ft
away. :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Sync is very slightly off.

2009-10-07 Thread Matt Wise

I just noticed one thing that was causing some issues... i had crossfade
ON for one player, and OFF for another. I meant to have them all off for
troubleshooting, so perhaps that was doing some strange things.

Can you check your settings and make sure things like crossfade are
either off or on?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Sync is very slightly off.

2009-10-05 Thread Matt Wise

Glad its working for you... I don't by any means think that this is a
general issue with sync -- I suspect that there is some "state" that a
Squeezeplay-based player can get into that suddenly causes problems.
Keep testing though!

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Sync is very slightly off.

2009-10-04 Thread Matt Wise

I spent most of last night and today debugging what-i-think is the same
issue. I opened bug (https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14570)
14570 on this issue. In my case its been reproducible today, but on
other days it seems just fine. The sync gets worse with higher-bitrate
audio (flac) and becomes tolerable with low-bitrate audio (pandora).

Could you read through my bug and see if this is the same behavior you
saw?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Playing radio without local server

2009-10-04 Thread Matt Wise

Sorry, wait. It sounds as if toby10 is correct peter. The correct action
is that "if local server is unavailable/notresponding/etc, offer MySB as
an option". There is going to be some more intelligence to this where we
will auto-switch if there is no current playlist (as well as some other
specific situations) -- but I don't think thats in there yet.

Phillip,
It sounds to me like your Baby not only couldn't connect to SBS
(whether its 7.5, or 7.4, or 7.4.1... doesnt matter) but also could not
connect to baby.mysqueezebox.com (production SqueezeNetwork). In this
case it would be helpful to go to the Diagnostics page (settings ->
advanced ->diagnostics) and see whether it can even connect to the
internet. Perhaps something happened to the network stack that prevented
it from getting to MySB.com.

One thing to clarify -- were you at any point using this Baby boom
with the "Test SqueezeNetwork?" If so, you need to do a factory reset on
the Baby first in order for it to create a proper connection to the
production SN racks. This hit me the other day and confused the heck out
of me as well.
