[SlimDevices: Radio] Static IP on Radio?

2009-12-19 Thread blazeslim

Is there a way to set a static IP address on the Radio without disabling
DHCP on my router? I found instructions from Logitech that say this is
possible using Network settings on the Radio, but when I look there, the
only choices are to connect via wireless and connect via Ethernet. I'm
never asked to enter an IP address manually.

This was so easy to do on the Squeezebox Classic, Boom, etc.

I'm running SqueezeCenter 7.4.1.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Is Radio wireless of poor quality?

2009-12-19 Thread blazeslim

I have a Radio and a Boom sitting next to each other in my home. The
Boom connects to the wireless network easily. The Radio can't. What's
the deal here?

[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio complaints (plug-ins, settings)

2009-12-19 Thread blazeslim

In SqueezeCenter 7.4.1, under Settings / Player, half the available
settings are missing for the Radio. "Menus" and "Date and Time" for
example. Why is this?

Also, several of my plug-ins don't work on the Radio: LazySearch2 and
Bookmarks, for example. They work fine on 7.4.1 on my other 9
Squeezeboxes (V2, V3, Boom). What's up with this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Is Radio wireless of poor quality?

2009-12-20 Thread blazeslim

The only reason my Radio and Boom were next to each other is because the
Radio couldn't connect to wireless from various locations in my house.
So I put it the same room as the Boom as a test.

Though frankly, if two squeezeboxes truly interfere with each other's
wireless connectivity, but two laptops don't (from my experience), there
is still a problem.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Is Radio wireless of poor quality?

2009-12-20 Thread blazeslim

Thanks for your reply. Let me put this in a little better perspective.

I own *ten* Squeezeboxes: one V2, five V3's, three Booms, and a Radio.
None of them has networking problems in my house except the Radio.

I was able to get the Radio to connect wirelessly once from one room.
When I turned it off and moved it to another room, the connection could
no longer be made. So I moved it back to the original room, and again
the connection could not be made. I tried a third room that has a Boom
in it, and again the connection could not be made. (After that, I gave
up and connected an ethernet cable.)

Sorry, I think this suggests strongly that wireless on the Radio -- at
least the brand new, Logitech-shipped unit I own -- is inferior to
wireless on the other Squeezeboxes. Granted, the Radio is a cheaper
product

This is with WEP 128-bit with SSID Broadcast disabled. My router is the
standard Actiontec MI424WR for Verizon FIOS.

IP-to-hostname can be done as simply as using a hosts file. But you have
to know the static IP

I don't have mac-address-to-hostname capability.
