Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio tower constantly showing

2011-05-01 Thread jimbo45

Hi there
If you do THIS you can normally get the proper logo for the Radio
Station.

1) Ensure that you are NOT listening to the station you want to save
the logo for and that you've deleterd it grom tghe favourites.

2) Search for the Radio station via Internet search

3) Save as favourite -- you'll find it will now be saved with the LOGO

Don't ask me why this works --it just does.

Cheers
-J

[SlimDevices: Radio] USB connection for Radio to play music from USB disk

2010-01-26 Thread jimbo45

Hi all
So far I've really enjoyed using the squeezebox radio -- but I'd love
just a small modification.

Could a future product allow connection of a USB disk and play music
from the local device -- I've got about 300 GB of music stored on one of
those nice tiny WD passport USB disks. Would be great if the radio could
also play music from loacl files stored on that disk.

There is already a Line In input and the radio must have some type of
OS (probably a small Linux) embedded into it - so the chances are USB
support already exists in the kernel. All one would need is to add a USB
connector to the case -- not IMO a difficult engineering job to do.

Cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Favorites Icons in 7.5

2010-01-20 Thread jimbo45

Thanks
That did the trick

I saved all the old favourites to a backup file on the computer first
-- just in case I lost them
Then deleted the favourites from the server
started again
Works fine.

Good tip - but if you've got a lot of favourites from Obscure URL's
SAVE those first to a backup file (you can re-import those again) just
in case you can't find them again or screw things up.

Cheers

[SlimDevices: Radio] SKY NEWS Radio - Internal Server error

2010-01-19 Thread jimbo45

Hi all
I like SKY NEWS RADIO -- (not the SKY TV Feed from the menu but the
ISLEWORTH UK feed).

This broadcasts the same as the SKY NEWS service that goes out on
Satellite -- with the advertisments blanked out (nice) via music.

However just recently when I try and listen to this I keep getting a
message both on the Duet and Radio -- ICY ... Internal Server error.

Re-booted, re-installed SB server software on machine -- same problem.

I hope this feed hasn't become a Paid for service as ut's a really
good News source.

Anybody else with this problem.

Hi there
That's what I did -- but being a pro photog I've often had to cobble
up bits of gadgets.

It works an absolute treat -- cheaper than the official device too.

That's the problem now in Soceity -- too many Bankers and Lawyers --
and not enough Engineers etc.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Nice surprise Squuezebox Duet Remote WORKS with the Radio

2010-01-06 Thread jimbo45

Hi all

Santa gave me a Squuezebox Radio.

I LOVE the Squeezebox Radio -- but if you are frustrated by not being
able to get a Remote for it and you also have a Squeezebox DUET system -
then that REMOTE also WORKS with the radio -- just Choose player on the
remote menu to control the radio.

No probs having a Radio and a Duet system working either individually
or at the same time.

My only complaint (and I had to look really hard to find one) is that
the Radio wasn't designed to be used with ordinary batteries -- however
the re-chargeable battery back will be OK when I can find one --
thisRadio is just meant to be portable so not having batteries from the
outset seemed to me a big mistakr.

Apart from that -- LOVELY PIECE OF KIT -- THANKS SANTA (and Logitech).

Cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Server with AVG or Avira

2010-01-06 Thread jimbo45

Hi there
just allow your AV software to access the ports -- you've probably got
them blocked off.

Note -- although this is NOT a Windows Forum I'd suggest you uninstall
your current AV software and use MSE (FREE BTW) or Microsofts Forefront
Client Security package.

If you are running XP or Windows 7 why not use MSE (Microsoft Security
Essentials) instead -- very small footprint, definitions updated almost
dated and does a first class job.

Finally with Microsoft involved in protecting their own OS'es the
Software SHOULD be good.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Someone else is playing my SBR

2010-01-06 Thread jimbo45

Hi all

save your favorites into 2 text files titled infobrowser.opml and
infobrowser.opml.backup. (Same data in each file). Use the export
function in Settings in your squeezebox server.

Now in the settings if your favorites get lost for any reason you can
re-import them.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] New SB Radio, New Router - no connection

2010-01-06 Thread jimbo45

Hi all

AVG is a DOG -- why on earth people running AV software choose this POS
is totally beyond me.

If you log on to various Windows Forums you'll find the low opinion of
AVG is pretty universal.

I'd uninstall it and install say MSE (its free, small and effective) --
Microsoft Security Essentials and updated nearly daily.

However your problem in connecting to your network might be that the
posts are blocked -- so unblock the ports in your security software.

Check also you haven't got any IP conflicts in your Network.

Cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Nice surprise Squuezebox Duet Remote WORKS with the Radio

2010-01-06 Thread jimbo45

Hi there
All I did on the controller was to go to the Choose Player setting. It
listed my Duet and the Radio.

I just selected Radio and the controller works just fine.

When I want to control the Duet box I just chose the squeezebox
player.

I haven't tried controlling the player from the radio -- I think that
would lead to too much confusion in our house.

Cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio battery on Logitech UK... kinda

2010-01-06 Thread jimbo45

Hi all
New Year resolution for 2010

(Not just with Logitech -- BUT ANYBODY)

I WILL NOT DEAL WITH OFFSHORED CALL CENTRES (USUALLY IN INDIA) ANY MORE
.

I've gone back to old fashioned FAX if I need any support -- it
actually works quicker too in the long run.

I think finally if everynody refused to put up with the irritating
telephone menu's plus the inevitable Your Call is important to Us or
In order to get you to your service as quickly as possible we caould
consign these to the Dustbin of History.

As many as 15 years ago you could get -- there are xxx people in front
of you in the queue -- your call should be anaswered in approximately yy
minutes.

Since then Call centre service has got PROGRESSIVELY WORSE -- why can't
we with 21st century technology place our request and then the CALL
CENTRE would automatically Ring back when an agent was available --
SIMPLE TECHNOLOGY.

The battery connector is actually fairly standard so you could make
one using standard re-chargeable AA batteries -- cheaper by far.

This Radio is just CRYING OUT for batteries -- it's great to take it
around the house -- and as it plays FLAC music directly who needs CD's
etc any more.

Cheers
jimbo
