Both files overwrite the previous versions in
G:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins\PHCplayer

Note the backups of the previous versions
I found deleting the cache.db file prior to restarting LMS helps
(sometimes but not always... )
Fingers crossed

I get two hits when searching for PHC on Tunein, both of which turn out
to be only the News from Lake Wobegon. Did you find the whole show
somewhere?

Is it true that the programme has been moved from RealPlayer to Flash
format and thus this plugin is obsolete? Is it also true that there is
no way to listen to PHC on Squeezeboxes on demand anymore?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] A Prairie Home Companion 3rd party app.

2011-10-19 Thread haschmich

After one year of intense meditation, I finally got to the bottom of my
problem and got it working - mostly.

The key lies in 'this ancient thread'
): - the problem being that mplayer does not support writing to stdout,
and the DiskStation does not have /dev/fd/XX to work around this
elegantly. I'm pretty sure there must be a way to access or create the
fd devices or equivalent, but I have no clue as to how, so named pipes
it is. The good news, there's no need to hunt for mkfifo as Synology
provides mknod to do the job.

As for the RTSP entries under WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes, I've
come to disable anything but FLAC, as it turns out this works best for
me and with reasonable CPU and bandwidth requirements. MP3 with lame
gives me crackling noises, hiccups and drop-outs, while ffmpeg hogs
100% CPU, and both never really crossed the finishing line. PCM works,
but it seems shoving around the uncompressed data stream pushes the DS
to its limits as well. And lastly, I found no way to make the SB Server
actually select the WAV conversion option.

FLAC works nice enough, although not exactly what I'd call robust:
seeking in a stream works only occasionally, and sometimes the odd
mplayer process is left running in the wild. Also there's no artwork
displayed at all, not even the default transmitter mast symbol for
generic radio.

Anyway, I'm happy that finally, I can listen to 'The Prairie Home
Companion' (http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/) on my Squeezeboxes!

I'm attaching my edited realmplayer.sh and custom-convert.conf files
from the PlayReal directory for reference. Mind you, they are dirty
hacks and come with no warranty obviously.

Thanks for your help bpa. I'm using Synology provided package. In my
squeezecenter installation directory, there's only a convert.conf and a
types.conf. What's custom-convert.conf, and what should be in it?

mplayer is an ARM binary, not sure how to test further as NAS has no
sound to begin with... startup message is:

Code:

 mplayer -v
  MPlayer SVN-r29700-snapshot-3.4.3 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team

  get_path('codecs.conf') - '/root/.mplayer/codecs.conf'

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] A Prairie Home Companion 3rd party app.

2010-12-05 Thread haschmich

I've got a similar if not the same problem with Squeezebox Server 7.5.1
on a Synology DS207+. mplayer and PlayReal are installed, and the
player seems to start playing alright, it even fetches and displays the
meta information of the stream. But all stays quiet, and after about 12s
it just stops. The behaviour is consistent in PHC plugin and Tune-in.

I have set my router firewall to forward incoming traffic on RTSP port
554 to the squeezebox server, outgoing is unrestricted anyway.

Any ideas what I can try? Would be gorgeous to be able to access PHC
archive via squeezebox!

Thank you, adding Playreal and mplayer did the trick. For whatever
reason, the link would play in the tune-in via HTML link, but not from
the PHC app. until now. I did have to give permission via the firewall
as it installed mplayer. All is well in Lake Wobegon again thanks to you

2010-02-06 Thread bpa

Just tested playing 30 Jan show - works OK for me.

By timeout - do you means no menus or you get menu for programs but
it times out after you try to play a program.

Have you installed PlayReal plugin and also mplayer ?
Can you try playing the URL below using the Tune-in on the WebUI.
http://www.publicradio.org/tools/media/player/phc/2010/01/30_phc.smil

The plugin uses the RealAudio stream which uses port 554 which is
sometimes blocked by some routers.

System details always help such as
OS ?
SBS version ?
