Yeah its complicated :) I first thought, that only MultiLibrary is needed but you need indeed both (because custom browse seems to be the only way to present the menu with your new multilibrary). After I installed both, working on this tutorial (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Setup_kids_room_SqueezeBox) and searching in the forum made me able to create what I wanted. I also don't put all albums up on my mp3tunes account. This way I have two libraries. I use mp3tunes as my main library which just contains our favourite albums, and if I feel like listening to something more obscure I would connect to the SBS on the PC. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Is this too much to ask?
You many want to consider connecting a low powered older computer to your network (wired or unwired), which I think most people have, and install SB server on it. You can leave that on all the time. I think the energy usage for those old PC's would be much less than your main powerful computer. This would allow you to have SB server access all the time. You could store your music on this old computer's hard drive accessible to all your SB players at any time. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Is this too much to ask?
I know exactly where you are Graham, as I had the same issue. My work around was to use mp3tunes locker. Essentually, I have most of my music stored at mp3tunes and rarely use the PC now to play my music. So I am permanently connected to MySqueezeBox.com. I hated having to switch between MSB.com and SBS all the time as well, and the Server Power Control plugin never really worked for me. The advantages of using mp3tunes locker: * No local PC needed, so power savings and convienence. * You can either put all your music up, or selected (favourite) music creating two library's * Everything on MSB.com * You have your music available anywhere, squeeze radio at home, any internet connection or via an iPhone app. (or if you take your SB radio on holiday with you, and have an internet connection, it will also work) * You can use this service also as a remote backup of your music. The disadvantages: * An annual fee. I paid 7 for the first year (through coupon) and 21 I think for this second year. Not too bad I guess. * Not quite as much control over display and options as SBS, but good enough for general use. * A bit more work uploading music, but once it's up that's it. For the last point. mp3tunes has an auto uploader, which is supposed to watch a folder and add any new music added to that folder or it's subfolders. I never got this to work for me, as it seemed to miss the odd song, so I just use a manual uploader (one album at a time) and even then I have to check it to make sure every song went up. I don't see anyone else complaining about this on their forums, so maybe it is just my system. I have three Squeezebox devices working this way, the radio, Boom and a SB2. At the end of the day, I would prefer my squeezeboxes to automatically switch between SBS and MSB.com as you suggest, basically a native Server Power controller, or somehow they allow a preference between one or the other as suggested elsewhere in this thread. But I've been mentioning it for years and so I don't think they feel there is a big enough market for it. Personally I do as I imagine most people won't come to this forum and would just want their setup to work as simply and easily as possible, where as a good deal of people on these forums are tech heads who don't mind tinkering with their kit and have a PC of some sort on 24/7. -- Justme Justme's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76094 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

And some of us use wake on lan so my server is actually not there when I want it, the controller wakes it up when i try to connect, so I would not like that my players had "runned away" to mysb.com all the time . So the non presence of the server can not be used as an sure indicator to that it should conect to mysqueezebox.com . So to make this work automatically, there would also have to be a setting where you would select if you prefer it to be connected to the local SBS or the mySB.com. It gets even more complex than that if you have multiple synchronized players, because then you want them to be switched simultaneously. Finally, you would of course never want it to switch when it's playing music unless you gives it permission, so if I've configure it to prefer SBS I don't want it to switch from mySB.com when my local server starts up if it's currently playing music through mySB.com. It should probably switch when I stop the music unless I've given it permission before that. Besides all this, we also have to throw in a wireless network that sometimes could cause connection problems and cause automatic switches. It should be said, that I completely agree with you, I shouldn't have to care which server it's connected to, it should just work. However, I'm just trying to say that doing this automatically might not be as simple as you make it sound , it still has to work good for all kinds of users. I don't own a SB radio but I have a variety of squeezeboxes and they all work flawlessly with mysb.com and using it's alarm function. I would suggest that you download the server power control plugin. it is a great tool for controlling when your squeezecenter server is on and when you use the mysb.com server. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Is this too much to ask?
Maybe I asked a silly question. Certainly there is no way that running a computer in addition to the radio is saving power, neither is leaving a ocmputer on continously using less power than turning it off when not in use. I could, of course, get another low power computer just to run the server, but that becomes an expensive solution and I would not have gone down this route. There is not so much extra processing power going on at mysb, since ultimately I am streaming from a radio station. Back to the problem, if I stream from the computer, fine, it will ask me to connect to the server. If I switch back to radio, it just connects through the computer server and works as normal. Turn both off, and the next time I turn the radio on, nothing happens. I have to go back to the home menu, select internet radio and then one more selection before it starts asking to connect to mysb. Surely the obvious answer is for it to do a quick check to see if the server is running and then tell me it is connecting to mysb. It really does not need my permission, nor should it be necessary to delve into the menus. Yes, I can take on any of the above solutions, but if Logitech don't sort this out they are going to seriously limit the appeal of what otherwise is a very good product. -- GrahamD GrahamD's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36316 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76094 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

The alternative is having all the compute power to decode streams at the SB Radio. Many on this forum have lived that past and know that running SBS is a superior solution in terms of performance and power. My recommendation is to work on making the machine you run SBS on as power efficient as possible. I use an older ThinkPad running Ubuntu and it uses about as much power as a night light when idling. Obviously streaming music from your computer requires SBS and your computer turned on. As for SBS to MySB then back to SBS: - if computer is off or SBS not running just select Internet Radio or My Apps or Favorites from Radio Home Menu, you should be offered "connect to MySB" - if Radio is on MySB just select My Music from Radio Home Menu, this should offer "connect to SBS" (assuming your computer is on and SBS is running) -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76094 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
[SlimDevices: Radio] Is this too much to ask?
When I bought the SB radio, I had the idea that I could use it as an alarm clock, internet radio and streaming music player when my computer was switched on. I did not realise that to do all three would require my computer to be on all the time. In the days when people are worrying about a few watts of standby power, this seems ludicrous. I don't want to leave my computer on all the time, or have it boot up just to stream an alarm sound. Is it really not possible to have the option to use direct internet connection (mysb) for radio and alarm functionality (better still store alarm times and sounds internally) and only connect to the computer for streaming? As it is, if I stream from the computer I need a dozen button pushes/twists (often requires several attempts) to get it to reconnect to mysb. All I want is for it to automatically connect to mysb when the squeezebox server is not detected (e.g., when pressing a preset button from standby mode). Maybe the option is already there and I just haven't found it. I'd be grateful is someone could enlighten me. -- GrahamD GrahamD's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36316 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76094 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
