Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio Alarm Functionality
Philip Meyer;522172 Wrote: The display of the popup modal dialog is specific to Radio (and Touch?); there should be a separate setting to define how the alarm interface works dependent on player type. This could be handled generically, as mentioned in other threads, by having an Alarm Display (Screensaver) mode, so the user could pick an appropriate display mode per-player. eg. either Popup Dialog (perhaps the default), various clock displays, Now Playing screen, etc. If Alarm Timeout = 0, the player won't be in alarm mode, and therefore the When Playing screensaver would always be displayed. That sounds good; what has to be done to request this? Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio Alarm Functionality
That sounds good; what has to be done to request this? I thought I already had a bug on having an alarm screensaver mode, but can't find it via search. Perhaps it was closed, or I had added it as a comment to another bug? Anyway, rather than raise another one, for now I added it as a comment on: https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13602 - Alarm snooze options You should vote for it (perhaps add a note saying that you think it's a good idea), and add yourself to the CC list so you get to see progress of the bug/enhancement. Other bugs/enhancements you might be interested in (related): https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=9329 - Per-alarm options https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14429 Or, search for alarm in bugzilla - there's a few hundred in there (probably a few duplicates). [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio Alarm Functionality
Running latest nightly 7.5 embedded, Radio firmware 8594. It seems that those of use who use the alarms as a scheduler have been forgotten. The alarm pop-up window, which I thought was supposed to have a timeout (or not appear at all) if the alarm duration was set to zero, stays displayed forever. And I see no way to turn of the the new feature to play the alarm through the radio's internal speaker even if a cable is plugged into the headphone jack. I have the headphone output connected to an amplifier and speakers to play my background music. Now when the alarm triggers and the program changes, I have to go over to the Radio and hit the left arrow to disable the alarm screen and restore the headphone output. Are these features going to be configurable soon? Or have I missed an announcement? Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio Alarm Functionality
Hhmm - I'm afraid both was on intention. The alarm was meant to be an alarm (that has to be acknowlegded) and that one could use this feature as a scheduler (by setting an invalid timeout value) in the past was more or less an accident/fortune. Also that you use the headphone out as a line-out might work under certain circumstances, but actually isn't a supported feature of the radio (so also you were just lucky before). As there are no official design specifications the only reference is the feature set in the adverts (where I can read of an alarm function, but not a music scheduling function). Of course all this is just my opinion - and I'll keep my fingers crossed that logitech declares your wishes as a feature and makes all this configurable. -- bluegaspode 1x SB-Controller+Receiver (Duet), 1xSB-Boom. 1xSB-Radio Server (7.4.1) running on SheevaPlug (Ubuntu) with attached Western Digital MyBook Essential. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio Alarm Functionality
The alarm was meant to be an alarm (that has to be acknowlegded) and that one could use this feature as a scheduler (by setting an invalid timeout value) in the past was more or less an accident/fortune. It was no accident that there wasn't a confirmation popup dialog that got in the way of showing useful information on the screen. If anything, I think it was an accident that the new Radio alarm clock device doesn't feature a snooze button, and thus screen/control panel hand/eye coordination required to access snooze function, and thus confirmation has become mandatory rather than optional. The issue is more than just use alarm as a scheduler. It's equally about presentation when used as an alarm clock (simplistic usage scenario). The configuration screen currently still allows alarm timeout=0, which is a bit odd if it doesn't stop the popup window from appearing (I haven't tried recently; gave up using Radio alarms). After all, if the Radio honour the alarm timeout setting, after n minutes the window should disappear and music stop. If n = 0, does that mean it immediately times out, which is the same as disabling the alarm? It was useful functionality that has (hopefully temporarily) been dropped from new new players. Fortunately it only affects new devices; so we can still use a SB Classic player as a useful alarm clock. ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

If n = 0, does that mean it immediately times out, which is the same as disabling the alarm? Alarm timeout = 0 for me still is an 'invalid' setting because its meaning is ambigious - so I wouldn't put ANY trust in it to keeps its behaviour between software versions. It could mean: - stop the alarm after 0 minutes (i.e. instantly = pretty useless, but correct interpretation) - don't stop the alarm after all (i.e. disable the timeout feature) - overload it with a different meaning (i.e. don't timeout and do another 'visualization', like no alarm popup). So the only (proper) solution is to start an enhancement request to remove timeout=0 and create a new unambigious option. -- bluegaspode 1x SB-Controller+Receiver (Duet), 1xSB-Boom. 1xSB-Radio Server (7.4.1) running on SheevaPlug (Ubuntu) with attached Western Digital MyBook Essential.
