There are no plastic contacts I am aware of.
They are plugged in 24/7 but not playing most of the time apart from the
kitchen radio which is on most of the time I'm home. It has the same
problem though.
See screeen as attached image14696.

In the Radio's Extended Settings menu there is a menu about Power that
displays some measurements. One is whether the battery is loading. Don't
remember what other values are there and not sure whether they are
helpful in any way...

[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio Battery

2013-04-04 Thread Waldo Pepper

Hi
I have four SB Radios. Three have batteries bought with them and one has
one I bought at a later date.
After recently having a new consumer unit fitted, the mains power had to
be turned off for about 1 hour.
Three out of my four radios had stopped working and were dead during
this period. Not because the router was off but the batteries were
simply exhausted.
Is there some deep setting I am missing to allow the batteries to
charge?
I have little need to use them without AC power. Maybe in the garden in
summer which hasn't arisen. Having since tested them without AC power,
they do appear to work for a short while without AC for 15 minutes or so
which for such a battery pack in AH terms seems far too short.

All radios show a batt symbol with about 50% filled in on the Icon after
weeks of being plugged into AC 24/7.

TIA

Eskil, is this information based on your direct examination and
measurement of a stock battery pack sold by Logitech?

I have found conflicting information on where the voltage sense wire
should connect. Some schematics show the connection to the positive
terminal of cell #7, some show to the positive terminal of cell #6.

People with the Logitech brand battery have reported vmon1=4V and
vmon2=8V, so it does seem that the correct connection point for vmon2 is
the wire between the positive terminal of cell #6 and the negative
terminal of cell #7.

 1 temperature sensor

Following the numbering convention from the JST datasheet:
 Pin 9: Black, 0V
Pin 7: White, Temperature sensing resistor of some sort. 11K at 27C,
 other end at pin 9
Pin 5: Green, 3.9V, 3 cells up from pin 9
Pin 3: Brown, 7.9V, 3 cells up from pin 5
Pin 1: Red, 13V, 4 cells up from pin 3

It's nice to see that the cells are protected against
 over-temperature.
It's also the reason not to try to copy it, as the temperature sensor
signal is probably well integrated into the charger electronics.
It's also rather nice to avoid fire from the batteries due to the over
 temperature shut down.

I haven't temperature-swept the temperature sensor to get a curve from
 it.

In other words, I don't recommend making a DIY battery.

Dont forget the resistor 191 Ohm for pin9 and pin5. Also don´t forget,
to buildin a temperature-fuse approx 75° Celsius.

10kOhm 25° Celsius is okay

Seems for me that u haven´t spent a long time to collect all data for
ur DIY.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio battery technical info

2011-04-28 Thread Soulkeeper

I bought the original Logitech pack for a quite different reason:

I simply found it very difficult (in Norway) to obtain high quality
batteries at a low enough price to justify the extra work of soldering
everything together myself. The original battery cost perhaps 10% or
20% more than the best pirate pack I could assemble myself, provided
I could order all the pirate parts in one shipment to save on the
shipping costs. Which it turned out, I couldn't.

When I also considered the risk of blowing the warranty, and/or blowing
the Radio itself, the choice was pretty clear.

If you are in the EU and have to have it now, get one from Luxembourg

Hi all
New Year resolution for 2010

(Not just with Logitech -- BUT ANYBODY)

I WILL NOT DEAL WITH OFFSHORED CALL CENTRES (USUALLY IN INDIA) ANY MORE

I've gone back to old fashioned FAX if I need any support -- it
actually works quicker too in the long run.

I think finally if everynody refused to put up with the irritating
telephone menu's plus the inevitable Your Call is important to Us or
In order to get you to your service as quickly as possible we caould
consign these to the Dustbin of History.

As many as 15 years ago you could get -- there are xxx people in front
of you in the queue -- your call should be anaswered in approximately yy
minutes.

Since then Call centre service has got PROGRESSIVELY WORSE -- why can't
we with 21st century technology place our request and then the CALL
CENTRE would automatically Ring back when an agent was available --
SIMPLE TECHNOLOGY.

The battery connector is actually fairly standard so you could make
one using standard re-chargeable AA batteries -- cheaper by far.

This Radio is just CRYING OUT for batteries -- it's great to take it
around the house -- and as it plays FLAC music directly who needs CD's
etc any more.

Cheers

Same state on the UK site. The listing is here:

It still has a holding picture and a 'preorder' button. Clicking the
preorder button throws an error. I've had a support ticket open on this
for a couple of weeks now.

On a related note, I was able to order 2 SB Touches also a couple of
weeks ago, but they're just sitting at 'In Process'. Ecommerce support
has no clue - they tried to blame it on my credit card company (who
confirms there is no problem with payment). I suspect they're just not
in stock, but it would seem sensible to just say that rather than make
up some silly excuse about payment issues.

In a way it's not at all surprising. Moving from purely mains powered
devices to possibly battery powered isn't at all an easy step, and will
require very careful hardware and software design for it to work
effectively. I worked for fifteen years writing software for mobile
telephones and know from painful experience how tricky it is to squeeze
the maximum lifetime from a battery. I wouldn't be at all surprised if
Logitech under-estimated this and currently have the devices running for
about half an hour on a full charge and are trying to figure out where
all those amps are going ;-)

In the meantime I ordered a Radio over Amazon.de and will enjoy it
inside for a while...

guys, but as (presumably) employees of Logitech they're in a better
position to sort it out than us as customers.

Thank you for providing me with a good laugh today. :)
As for something else weird, the Italian online shop I bought my Duet
-260€- and Boom -200€- from now lists them at 350€ both.

Agreed. But that's what pre-order is, you are pre-ordering for a
future (possible December) shipping.

IMO, as I've stated before in another thread, they should have a sign
up for email notifications for such future hardware and services (like
when Pandora One accounts will be able to stream at the 192k bit-rate on
SB players). This would greatly reduce a lot of the when is xxx going
to be available and second guessing in these forums. You'll know when
it's actually available when you get your email, conveniently including
a direct link to place your order. :)

No, of course not. I cannot think of any reason why someone would need a
battery -and- a remote. When the Radio runs on battery that means I am
taking it with me and it is within my reach, so I don't need a remote.
Conversely, when I have to use the remote that means I am in the chair
and the Radio is on the shelve where it will be near a wall outlet, so I
 don't need a battery.

It's just like when you have to buy a whole assortment of 20 different
sealing washers at the DIY store when you need only one particular size.

I do agree they should be available separately as well. But I disagree
that anyone would not have need for a remote while on battery usage. In
fact, I'd certainly have more need of the remote if using the Radio on
my deck. Too many scenarios and usage possibilities to outright dismiss
remote + battery usage.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio battery on Logitech UK... kinda

2009-10-20 Thread twynne

I've just spent the most irritating 15 minutes on the phone with someone
in Logitech's ecommerce team regarding the issues attempting to
pre-order via the website. For some reason the first half of the call
was spent convincing him that the Squeezebox radio actually accepts a
battery. He then asked me if my existing battery was faulty! Er, no,
it doesn't come with one. Idiot.

In the end I had to walk HIM through the website as he couldn't grasp
the fact that I was trying to order and it was generating an error.
After all of that, he confirms that there are issues with the website
and promises updates via email. Yeah, I'll hold my breath for that.

On the assumption that Logitech has outsourced their ecommerce site,
they seriously need to slap around the idiots that are running it.

Clicking the product images does nothing, you need to double click!!
Why would I need to drag the products around? Usability testing??

There are a number of people that have expressed the same view on the
forum, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. I've got 3 Harmony
remotes as well, which makes the 5 Slim/Squeezebox remotes I have
completely useless. The initial response seems to be that the remote
adds a negligible amount to the cost of the accessory pack, but if that
were the case why didn't they just include it with the Radio?!

You can keep the battery and sell the remote on eBay, or vice versa.
:)

I for example would definitely need a remote (if I had not just bought
a used Boom by now) because the radio would be sitting at the far end of
the room across the kitchen table, but I would have no use for the
battery.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio battery on Logitech UK... kinda

2009-10-19 Thread twynne

Noticed over the weekend that the battery has appeared on the UK
Logitech site, but only with a sort of 'holding' image. When trying to
put it in the cart I'm getting an error message.

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/cl=gb,en

Anyone successful?

£44.90? When does that equate to $50? I hope the 20% code still works on
