No - the new speaker is shallower than the original. In the second photo the original one is on top and the new one is below (see my original text). Well in the end I bought a Faital Pro 3FE25-4 speaker from a German online retailer since it was described as a "drop-in" replacement for the original speaker. Cost was 14.85 but more than that for transport by DHL unfortunately. Dismantling the SB Radio is fiddly but not hard - you do need some very small Torx screwdriver bits (two different sizes). Obviously disconnect the battery pack first (if you have one) - this will also allow you to push the facia out from the case from behind rather than prise it out from the front.. Definitely the hardest part (as suggested in Joe's blog) is getting the actual speaker removed, because the four fixing srews have been waxed in, and removing the wax is a real PITA. In the end I had to use long-nose pliers to get the screws started, and the heads were pretty wrecked by the time I got them out. Fortunately. I had some similar sized items in my "assorted small screws" box - with simple Philips heads so much easier to fix - and no wax this time. Oh - and removing the foam circle from the old speaker (presumably some form of damper) required a thin blade and some ripe Anglo-Saxon! Super-glued on to the back of the new one. Interestingly, the Faital speaker is heavier than the original one (548gm v 496gm), even though the magnet assembly looks smaller. I think you are the first person to report failed speaker in a Squeezebox Radio, certainly the first I have seen, although I've been expecting such failures to start occurring as I mentioned in post #39 of this thread: https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?107832-Is-Boom-speaker-deterioration-inevitable Which would be a good read for starters on replacement speaker options, most of which are in that thread or have links to other threads with details of replacements. As for disassembly, you'll find some instructions on a web search (Logitech Squeezebox Radio disassembly) which will take you part of the way, but to get to the speaker unit after the front grill and electronics board are removed, I'd guess you'll have a series of screws holding the panel that the speaker(s) are mounted on to the outer shell, I suspect there will also be a rubber seal that will make that panel seem stuck, so a bit of gentle force may be required to part them once you've made sure all retaining screws are removed. Then it will just be a case mounting your chosen new speaker/driver making any adaptions necessary for a good fit. Good luck and don't forget to report back your experience. One of my trusty SB Radios has developed the dreaded-but-common "farty speaker" issue. Removing the grill I can see that more than half of the surround has detached (guess it's had enough of my Morrissey Mullen when I'm cooking!). I've seen the articles and videos on repairing this, but it seems a real faff for such a large detachment, so I'm thinking about replacement rather than repair. Replacement speakers (e.g. Dayton Audio) still seem to be available at reasonable prices, but I haven't found any old threads or YouTube videos about replacing the original speaker. So I don't know how easy it is to get to the speaker and its fixings via the front panel - is there glue as well as screws? What else should I look out for? Any well-recommended (or even not-recommended) replacement drivers? If you can point me at any old threads or videos I'd appreciate it. I'm in Portugal.
