Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] My SBR alarm blog

2011-01-24 Thread jaaen

Alarm wasn't used during the weekend (thank God!) but this morning I had
adjusted the alarm time to be 6:58 instead 07:00 - and the radio station
played as it should. Somebody had suggested that exactly at 07:00 there
might be too many Internet Radios attempting to connect to the same
radio station at the same time.
I will continue to monitor and post what happens.

Hi,

Thanks again for looking at the log. This morning at 6.30 the alarm
worked fine. I had made no changes. I have attached the log. The only
thing that is strange is that I still get that network thread timeout
message in the log:

Code:

  Jan 19 06:31:02 squeezeplay: WARN applet.AlarmSnooze -
AlarmSnoozeApplet.lua:420 _pollDecodeState(server): audioState is 1
  Jan 19 06:31:02 squeezeplay: WARN applet.AlarmSnooze -

alarm in progress - audioState is 1
  Jan 19 06:31:08 squeezeplay: WARN net.thread - NetworkThread.lua:146
*network thread timeout for Task(SocketHttp {Our music_Request}(R))*
  Jan 19 06:31:11 squeezeplay: WARN applet.AlarmSnooze -
AlarmSnoozeApplet.lua:420 _pollDecodeState(server): audioState is 1

It is true the Radio is connected using Wlan - and the connection is
not the best - about 50% bars on the indicator. But then again - I
practically never have a problem in selecting radio station and it
plays with a few seconds.

I have now tried to change the starting of the alarm to be 6:28 instead
of 6:30 in case that it relates to a slow Internet stream exactly at
6:30 due to many Internet Radios using the stream at the same time.

I will post more progress! :-)

2011-01-18 Thread jaaen

Hi,

I set the alarm on my Radio at 6:30 today 18th of January.

As usual the Fallback alarm fired instead of the radio stream. Note
that when I select the radio stream, for example by hitting the preset
buttons - there is no problem connecting to the radio station. It
usually takes just 3-4 seconds max.

I have attached log file.

It would be great if anybody can read anything out of the file! :-)

3-4 seconds starting time is the problem in your case.

According to the logs, the following happens:
The Radio starts the stream at 06:29:59.
It checks if there is any output at 06:30:00 (i.e. after one second)
Your stream is not playing it this time = the fallback sounds.

I guess you need to try another stream.

You should watch (or vote) on the bugreport mentioned earlier

about making the alarm less strict (so that it maybe waits a little bit
longer before it decides that the stream is not good enough to wake you

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] My SBR alarm blog

2011-01-18 Thread Mnyb

But almost no radiostations at all start within a second ?

Most buffer a while before start-up even rock solid good stations ?

A station must be allowed some initial buffer time.

If I take radio paradise and and a stopwatch from pressing play
watching buffer fill up then audio it is 6-7 seconds, this is true for
most stations only radio close to me like Sveriges Radio P3 Street
starts within 2 seconds.

Other buffer for a even longer time ?

You can not consider a stream dead until the user selectable max buffer
time has timed out: default 3s max 30s

or the Radio Station Timeout o to 60 seconds .

It can be so that by allowing long buffertimes you get long start-up
times as the player buffers untill the buffer is 100% or the buffer
time is reached, whichever come first .
I have the buffertime maxed out as I think it's fun to try mysterius
station around the globe :)

Radio Station Buffer Seconds
When playing an Internet stream, the player buffers a small amount of
data before beginning playback. Specify the amount of audio data to
buffer, in seconds from 3 to 30. The default value is 3 seconds. If you
experience stuttering audio, increasing this value may help.

Radio Station Timeout
You can set the length of time that Squeezebox Server will try to
connect to an internet radio station or other source before giving up.
Enter the amount of time, in seconds, below.

Sorry, my information was misleading.

Checked logs and code again: the Radio first checks after 10seconds
after the alarm time (and then every other 10 seconds) if some stream
is playing.

From the logs (the interesting parts):

Code:

  Jan 18 06:29:59 squeezeplay: INFO audio.decode - Playback.lua:443 GET

06:29:59 stream is started
06:30:00 alarm windows is opened (no stream playing yet)
06:30:09 check for audio playing/fallback alarm (still no stream
playing yet)
06:30:11 fallback actually starts
06:31:22 timeout-message for the radio stream

So no need to tune anything - the stream (or your internet-connection)
is flawed at your alarm time.

Maybe this is because your internet connection is down (sort of some
dial-up time)?
This would explain, why you say the station starts within 3 seconds
when you try it later on.

I'd try some different streams. If we get the network timeout for
different streams, then we need to look into your network/router.

2011-01-17 Thread jaaen

Hi,

I've had the same problem with the alarm as described in this thread.
I.e. in the morning my Squeezebox Radio very often uses the Fallback
alarm tone instead of playing my selected internet radio stream.

Only now I noticed this thread - and I have made the proposed change to
the timer. Now anxiously looking forward to see if this helps tomorrow
morning. :-)

Has anybody else tried this? Any success?

Has there been any progress in this area that I haven't noticed in some
other threads? I can see that the status of the related bug
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16663 is still in progress
and planned for the 7.6.0 release.

Result-faded in fine, played for 20 seconds, dropped out for about 3

faultlessly until turning off automatically after 45 minutes!

Just when I was ready to grab the log, ho hum, will try again on

Hi wonderboy.
I'd be interested in a log from the Radio after the 30 minutes. You can
retrieve it by SSHing into the Radio (use a program like WinSCP) and
dowloading the file /var/log/messages.

There is a difference for streams in 'alarm mode' and 'normal mode'.
In 'alarm mode' every single server disconnect will trigger the
fallback.
In 'normal mode' one may not realize that the server is disconnecting
as well (for short times), due to the playback buffer which may hide
the disconnection.

I want to see if you have server disconnects within the 30minutes as
well.

Thanks for taking the time to write down your experiences.
