Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WPA2 modes and Radio ?
I recently replaced a Linksys 54G wifi router with a Cisco/Linksys E1000 wifi router. Both of my Squeezebox radios work quite well with wifi using WPA2 + AES mode on the Cisco/Linksys E1000. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WPA2 modes and Radio ?
AFAIK the implementation by just a few routers of WPA/WPA2 does confuse the radio. Here in the UK, the router provided by BT (the largest ISP) is now the HomeHub 3. Its default mode is to use WPA AND WPA2. Unfortunately there is a mismatch between the hub and the radio, and the radio sees this as WEP (not sure how). In consequence, it won't connect. The solution for many was to go to HomePlugs (the powerline option rather than WiFi). In theory, switching the hub to WPA2 only or even WPA only should solve it - but there seem to be other issues as well! Hope this might help anyone with a Radio and a HH3. Wired connection is the way to go (or HomePlugs). There was a thread about this somewhere else, but its kinda old now. asdti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38467 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94496 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WPA2 modes and Radio ?
AFAIU, in the TKIP/AES mode, the router starts with AES (the newest/best standard), and if the client won't accept AES, the router tries to fallback to TKIP. If all your devices support AES, stick with that. Linksys E3000 (DD-WRT 16785) works well for me. It even tangents my old WRT54GL when it comes to reliability and distance, not many routers do. The conditions around here can be pretty challenging too. The E3000 can run 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously. The 5 GHz band can be useful if a) you have client(s) that support it and b) the distance between router and client is short, and the line of sight obstacles are few.
