It's great to hear, Bryan, that seeing your Hunqa helped persuade minds at your shop. The shop closest to me has a very nice father and son owner but they scratch their head at what I ride in bafflement since rim brakes are going away and other platitudes. [RBW] baby boomer blues
I share your experience of aging and changing riding habits. I have the b17 on the tandem and very early selle anatomica on the singles. The latter are noticeably more comfortable. Probably the slit and additional flex. No problem with over stretch. If that had happened I would have gone back to the co.. Don't get the single laminate version. David, perfect description. Gee, Michael, I did go back to the company and found them curiously defensive and somewhat whiny about their financial position. Selle Titanico X - I'm 215 lbs. (6''3) - supposed to be the right saddle for me. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v728/bulldog1935/Raleigh/F%20Moser/aaaP4130003.jpg 9 months on saddle, the question was what are they going to do. The discoloration is because the leather was stretching and the glue laminating the leather to the plastic was extruding through the leather. Design? Q/C? Regardless, the saddle was at the end of its useful life for me. And yes, I rode many comfortable miles on the saddle, and the third-of-the-stretch-bolt that is left might take someone lighter person many more miles than it was going to take me. Rivet is not without their quirks, either. It's very round and sits very different - hard at first contact. When you get down the road, you realize the support is just fine and is quite comfortable in spite of no feeling cushy. The error she made on the saddle is the hole radius at the back of the cut-out is too small, making the saddle deform to a ridge that has the potential to be personally intruding. Higher-grade Brooks are still superior, their design was never broken, but in the standard grades, have seen several Q/C problems with them, as well. Steve, good point about Bertaud coming out with wider, and even more cost effective saddles. My buddy rides their original and loves it. If you've been using a narrow racing saddle and have changed your position to a more upright one, perhaps you might need to switch to a saddle more suitable for that riding position. And Brooks isn't the only maker of good leather saddles. Berthoud makes several models in different widths; also Selle AnAtomica and Rivet make leather saddles of several different widths. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: baby boomer blues
I'm sorry to read both that you have had such bad luck and that they didn't want to own a mfg defect. I wonder if the early ones, labeled Robusto, which is what I have, are better? I believe that originally they were buying Brooks saddles and modifying them before they got into their own leather. Also the company founder died suddenly (I think while riding in Death Valley) and that too may have contributed to a loss of control over the product. It would be interesting to hear from others who have more recent purchases. Sometimes these quality issues get turned around. For bikes, I think the most common one would be a circa 1984 Centurion with a rusty chain. A little bit of everything of course. Plenty of crabon, LOTS of beach cruisers. One MB-Zip, and a woman asking me about Rivendells, saying she would love to have a Betty Foy. I directed her here, telling her that there is one listed FS right now! [RBW] Re: Sackville Bar Sack review needed please.
@Aakash: I have been using the Carradice Pendle Saddlebag, but it is so big it drags on the rear wheels of my bikes unless I use a fender. Then it sits on the fender. I don't want to put racks on the bike. The next bag size down by Carradice is the Zipped Roll. But I think I need something a little bigger. I don't tour or anything, and a Pendle sized bag is enough for me. So I thought I would try a front bag and see how I like it. I think the only rack I would ever want to put on my bikes is a front rack, but only if I had to for larger bag reasons or to mount a dynamo powered light. @ MKahri: Thanks for the info and tips # 3 and 6. [RBW] FS: Compass 1.75x26 tires and 26 Velocity wheelset
I've posted this a few times, sorry for the repeats. I'm close to selling all I needed to sell to fund a new Cheviot build ,except the following: 26 Velocity Wheelset (Dynoheat rims, 36 spokes): http://www.rivbike.com/category-s/588.htm $300 local (Bay Area), $330 shipped Compass 26 x 1.75: http://www.compasscycle.com/tires_comp_26_175.html $85 local (Bay Area), $90 shipped These were bought as a second wheelset for a hunqapillar build this May. Less than 200 miles of use, like new. It will be a week or two before I can ship the wheelset, I need to snag a box from Rivendell when i pick up the Cheviot. I know someone has to have an Atlantis or Hunqapillar build, a restoration, or just a second wheelset with road different tires? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Dyno light recommendation
I've got 16000 MILES on my SON Delux. 13000 miles on a SON 28 (different bike, and has survived a wreck. Had the wheel rebuilt). Both still going strong. I know someone with over 4 miles on his SON 28. Ditto. They may cost more, but... -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Good riding only happens with good friends.
It's been a while since I posted. Which could mean two things. One; I broke my camera. or Two; I haven't had anything great to write and reflect on. Well two of those two things are right. (Camera's viewfinder is broken, in the process of getting a new camera, if I get a new camera.) Until today. Indian summer in the Bay Area with temps up to 95+ inland. Wilson. Nick and Johan all braved the hot weather for some cool costal riding. One way to make the start of the ride interesting is to ride with a running marathon that was going on to the bridge. Fun trying to dodge and find alternative routes to getting to the same place. Felt kind of like riding with zombies which I guess foreshadowed how we were going to feel for the rest of the day. First flat was from Wilson who had a galvanized roofing nail unbend through tire, tube and rim. Nothing electrical tape and extra tube couldn't fixed. Hot climbing over 8 miles spread the group up a bit and the only cool down was this magically springs near the top. Seriously it's magic it's always flowing, eh trickling. But on this hot day it was magical. With only half of the ride over, the effects of the Mr.Sun had us baked and feeling like zombies. We quickly sprung into action emergency burger mode. Forgo all the extra milage to the fastest burger place. Always a good plan. Second flat went to Nick, third and fourth flat went to Jonah. Nick rode ahead due to dinner plans; Wilson, Jonah and I went to grind that last bit of dirt before calling it quits for burgers. Best burger ever. Seriously. I've had this burger plenty of times on rides harder or similar. Today was amazing. Maybe it was great company, or wonderful weather or maybe I was going through heat exhaustion. But I am convince that burgers solve everything in life. Pictures Proved that a dinky point and shoot can still take okay shots: https://flic.kr/s/aHsk4Sjy3g Manny RIP Camera #6 Acosta -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
