[RBW] Re: Phase Two of an Atlantis build

2014-12-14 Thread lungimsam
Very cool!
What a beautiful rack. Neato bartape design!
I am surprised though that there is no strut to attack through the fork
crown.
Fenders next? Looks like you can daruma fender right up flush against the
fork crown as you have cantis on the bike for massive clearance!

It would be cool if RBW and Compass Cycles sent postcards like this to our
homes each year:

To the person who is deeply loved and appreciated by the cyclist in the
house.

...with a reminder that its time to stock up on gift certificates...

[RBW] Re: Your dream RBW wheel set build, please

2014-12-14 Thread lungimsam
PS - your choice of dyno hub is best selected by what features you want out
of a hub, so the ones we recommend may not be best for you. I am sure Rich
could let you know which hub would suit your needs best.

Some charge electronics better while riding, some make a wheel build
stronger, some do other things better.

I'm hoping for a zero drag hub one day.

[RBW] Re: Your dream RBW wheel set build, please

2014-12-14 Thread lungimsam
If I bought a wheelset from RBW, I would ask for Grand Bois 650b rims -
black label, laced to a SONdelux wide body hub for the front wheel. Spokes
would be whatever Rich recommended.

My GB Hetre and GB Cyprus tires have aired up and bead set with practically
no trouble on my Grand Bois 650b rims - black label.
With the GB black labels, I aired up to the sidewall's indicated max
pressure on my Cyprus tires and if I remember correctly, they automatically
set up right. They initially didn't at the first inflation to the lowest
rated pressure, but did at max rated pressure, and stayed set when I aired
down to ride them at 55psi, min. rated pressure.
The Hetres were just about right, but a little test ride got them set fine.
Both were with cloth rim tape.

I also have used Velocity Synergy rims, and they were more difficult to get
the tire beads of Hetres to set on. Painful sidewall massaging involved to
get the bead to set. Very frustrating.

For that reason I don't want to buy Synergys anymore.

Velocity a23, Hed Belgium, or H+son rims.
Son deluxe front hub, White Industries rear hub. Double butted spokes.
Maybe 15/16 on the front and nds rear. 14/15 on the drive side. 28 or 32
spokes on the front. 32 spokes on the rear.

Of course, this depends on your riding style.

Group, would you mind offering your most ideal road-ish riding wheel set

Parameters: 650b Hilsen. 8sp cassette. Would prefer on the lighter,

It is a fun ride for sure.
Lake Elkhorrn has a path that also hooks up with the Long Reach path system

For longer, wide MUP systems in the area, check out the Catonsville Grist Mill
Trail to BWI Trail to B &A trail which takes you from Catonsville all the way
to Annapolis.
