Ana, Love your bike's color and the swoopy rear stay. Seeing your Instagram pics reminded me of the song that Johnny Cash sings, "I've Been Everywhere, Man." [RBW] Baltimore Bicycle Works
Falls Rd. Baltimore. Highly recommended. Very friendly and polite. Stands behind their work. Interesting shop in interesting location near some picturesque parts of Bmore. Across the street is a river. I imagine good riding along there. Also, a streetcar museum about a block down the road from them. Painted murals on the walls outside of the shop. Rivish and mainstream stuff inside. One of them rides a Bosco (?) VO with discs and RTP tires. They take many usual forms of payment. But I did both transactions online and paid ahead by Paypal and just showed up to pick up my stuff. The employees arrived on their bikes. [RBW] More Famous BQ sightings in the wild
My extended BART commute has me riding from El Cerrito through Berkeley to Lake Merrit BART. The natural morning stopping spot for grass-fed butter coffee is Cheese Board. One morning this week I was leaning my bike on a post when I spied a lovely machine parked on the next post. It was a yummy Chapman custom, with 650x45 semi-knobby WTB tires, hydraulic discs, through axles, high end SRAM 1x drivetrain, the works. Besides its size I couldn't see a detail that I would not have spec'd if I had a blank sheet of paper. I went in to Cheese Board and got in line. It was easy to pick out the owner of the Chapman and I nodded in his direction, sending the message that I was scoping his bike out of appreciation. The Chapman guy lingered long enough out in front to catch me on my way out. He asked a couple questions about my modest Rosco Bubbe Road commuter. It's not a fancy or notable machine, but it has several details that catch the attention of folks who understand what they are looking at. We had a chat, name dropped friends we have in common in the community. We hadn't crossed paths before because he just recently moved to the Bay Area. He introduced himself as David, and I have no doubt we'll end up in the same place sometime in the future. I cracked open my Autumn 2018 BQ this morning, and there David is in the Mt Hood article. Pages 36, 38, 39 and 44 all feature David on his Chapman. I'm practically famous now, right? [RBW] One month VO Touring rear hub review.
Rear hub. Takes 11sp, 7/8/9/10 with spacer. I run 8speed. You have choice of Shimano or Campy type freehub body. Roadside serviceable. Disassembles and reassembles by hand -no tools needed. Replace a spoke roadside. Install new bearngs no tools required. Looks amazing. High flange. And they coast loud Not Chris King Angry Bee loud. But close. I normally want silence out of my tear hubs. But I find that like the sound, and have found the sound of the large pawls to add to the exhiliration of coasting. Very refreshing sound. Also, as a major plus- I don’t need a bell. The sound of me coasting scatters pedestrians and deer alike. Even from yards away. So the noise serves a safety purpose, too. Pics to come. I really like that, when the time cones, I can easily redo the bearing cartriges myself. Big plus. Pop em in and keep riding. No need to buy a new hub or pay as much as a new one for service, like I woukd for my LX hubs. Almost. But would be better to get a pic of yourself in there. That way, in 100 years, your pic might be reprinted in a niche ebike magazine (by that time ebikes will be niche) and the nuclear powered bike era subscribers will see the grainy digitized photo of you with the “chain driven rider, circa 2018” caption below your pic. [RBW] Re: Compass Antelope Pass 700 x 55: the fat tire arms race continues
I finally got around to putting these on my 2013 Hunqapillar after ordering a new Velocity Cliffhanger wheelset from Riv. On Cliffhangers, these are a true 55mm wide, and I have lots of clearance on this bike, except that I had to remove my Pletscher kickstand to keep it from rubbing the rear tire. Not a big problem. These are my first tubeless compatible rims & tires, but I found a little patience & a pair of Crank Brothers Speedier tire levers & inflating the inner tube to about 50 psi got the beads seated properly. These ride like big fat extralight Compass tires, but I can only directly compare them to 55mm Big Bens which I didn't really like too much. [RBW] Pedal Bikes, Shoot Film Posters For Sale
Awesome. The Pedal Bikes Shoot Film contest was what got me out on the bike with my dad’s old Ansco folder, Graflex 3x4, and Leica II(d). And to buy chemicals and start developing again after a 10 year hiatus. That was a packed Saturday, trying to get something shot, processed, and printed before the cutoff! The analog chemical process went much smoother than the digital scanning or printing. Hi Justin. I have quite a collection of dual legged kickstands gathered for bike-with-kid service. I’ll send you some info tomorrow. I am local-ish so you can check them out. Need to clean out the garage. The Ursus is the best I used. Super stable and wide footprint. Helps with wiggling kids whether front or rear.
