Re: [RBW] Re: HubbuhHubbuh email from Riv & donation idea

2018-12-13 Thread Tony DeFilippo
Love the idea, threw some cash in the pile... Looks like we're nearly to the
frame price.

HHH is a such a superb tandem, I hope this helps makes the next order available
to anyone who missed out.

I'm a 6'/90pbh Captain very comfortable on a size small by the way. I can't
imagine the large to be honest.

Re: [RBW] Re: HubbuhHubbuh email from Riv & donation idea

2018-12-13 Thread Randy Franks

1. This weekend my wife and I are taking the inaugural spin on our
newly-built HHH. Whatever's left in the build budget, plus a few extra
bucks will go into this fundraiser. Beyond the raw awesomeness of the
BTCC's mission, I am so excited to find a way to assuage the guilt of
removing my name from the HHH 2.5 list after snagging the second small sage
set-aside in Will's email a few weeks back. Whew. What a bonus.

2. For sizing, remember the sizes were originally M-L-XL, but that got
confusing and shifted down a notch to the standard S-M-L (per Grant). We're
riding a small and have PBHs 85 and 79 respectively.

3. Reading up on BTCC, it sounds like they are a forum for connecting
willing captains and interested stokers. Do they own bikes directly? Maybe
there's a way to get into the hands of a willing, but non-yet registered
captain to make a white pin someplace where a blue pin is waiting for a
match . Good luck with the logistics,
Alex!

4. If it comes to fruition, who's going to maintain the Instagram page? New
hashtag #RBWOBHHH?

Re: [RBW] Re: Volume of LARGE Saddlsack?

2018-12-13 Thread 'Deacon Patrick' via RBW Owners Bunch
Keep in mind, Patrick, that the large saddlesack (or the current evolution of
it, the BaggaBond,
https://www.rivbike.com/collections/bags/products/sackville-bagabond) allows
the carrying of at least the same volume again via strapping things on top.
Irish Straps and Shopsacks are excelent for this, and can strap on top. Pack
wisely, heavy items down low, lighter items up high.

With abandon,
Patrick

eventually measure several of my bikes, but I can only ride one at a time
from BART to Box Dog. Maybe I'll bring a few bikes in my Minivan.

IF I limit myself to one bike, my top candidates are:

1. Rivendell Legolas, made in Spring 2018 by Nobillette. Ostensibly,
rumored to be the thinnest wall tubing Rivendell will ever spec.
2. Ebisu All Purpose, ~2003.
3. Rivendell Leo Roadini

5. Gunnar Crosshairs custom

Do you care which one I bring? I imagine the Roadini would have a lot of
interest, because it's currently something you can buy off the rack. It's
lower on my priority list because I know the data, regardless of what it
is, will be used to disqualify the Roadini from consideration because it's

That particular run of Rosco's really tempted me because it's an almost

was a deal breaker for me. I'm a super heavyweight and that doesn't sound

 Hi Patrick,

I checked my memory in a roundabout way and am 97.8 percent sure I'm
correct. I have a pair of Carradice Kendal panniers and was considering
using those last spring on a tour, and remember thinking that the total
volume of the Kendals at 32 liters was about the same as that of my large
Saddlesack, so capacity-wise it didn't matter.

Re: [RBW] Re: HubbuhHubbuh email from Riv & donation idea

2018-12-13 Thread Bob Lovejoy
Agreed on the sizing question... I was just going at it from the idea of
supporting Rivendell, getting a great, fun and useful bike out into the
world, and certainly the mission of the BTCC.

I do hope they are able to get enough commitments to do another tandem
order.

2018-12-13 Thread tom coppedge
Right, Bob, but part of the point was to add 1 to the pre-sale Hubbuh order
to increase the chances that there will even BE another run of Hubbuh’s.

Also, I’m guessing, to accommodate more riders, they would probably prefer
a small or medium frame.

[RBW] Re: HubbuhHubbuh email from Riv & donation idea

2018-12-13 Thread Alex Wirth- Owner, Yellow Haus Bicycles
In the spirit of transparency I sent this to Christine Tinberg (Founder of
BTCC) this morning:

*Hi Christine,*
*Admittedly I should have reached out before we started this project
buthere we are. Not sure if you're familiar with Rivendell Bicycle
Works but there's a few of us on a google forum and an idea sparked to get
a tandem framehopefully entire tandem donated to the BTCC. We can talk
about logistics and ideas and coordination etc etc. Hopefully you think
this is a cool idea. I didn't want to get too far ahead of myself in
planning without first getting in contact with you. I personally promise
that I will not allow the project to become a burden, financial or
otherwise. Long story short we started the fundraiser yesterday and we're
already more than halfway there:*

*I'll try and reach out to you later today (I'm on the east coast) or you
are always free to call my cell or email (585-698-).*

*Cheers,*

*Alex *

I'll update everyone once I have more information

The response has been overwhelming! You all are a wonderful bunch. Having
made the mistake of starting the Go Fund Me, I take responsibility in
seeing this to the end. I just might need to fly out to Riv HQ and
personally deliver/ride this bike to Topanga (Laughing maniacally)

Cheers everyone

[RBW] HubbuhHubbuh email from Riv & donation idea

2018-12-13 Thread tc
This is truly awesome! $1,175 already raised in a day by over 20 contributors!
Just a little more, and we’re there.

This will certainly be one bike that will give back many, many times its
monetary worth for years to come ... as we all have experienced with special
bikes of our own. That visually impaired children and adults could have the
same experience is truly a wonderful thought.
