[RBW] FS: Cycling Books - Doing a little library culling - Photos

2019-08-25 Thread Cyclofiend Jim
Hey there -

Moving some things around and realized that I'd set these aside to give the
RBW group first dips. Then promptly forgot about them. So... a few months
later, I'm finally getting around to posting these here.

Kind of a mishmash of cycling/bike geek/bike racing books which I hadn't
opened in a while. Would love to put them into a library where they'll be a
bit more appreciated. Mostly decent quality printings.

Shipping would be via USPS Media Mail or Priority (your choice - so
somewhere between $4 and $20, depending upon the size of the package)
unless you are in the SF Bay Area and want to connect somewhere north of
the GG Bridge.

No discounts for multiple items, but I'll combine and quote shipping for
the package.

I've posted photos here:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/kXxaXyQRHjKGnJw26
There are some descriptions on each image.

Here's the text listing:

Lot #1 - Set of three classic racing books - $10 + shipping
Tour de France - the Historic 1978 Event by Robin Magowan (hb/dustjacket)
Uphill Battle - Cycling's Great Climbers by Owen Mulholland (hb/dj)
Off to the Races - 25 Years of Cycling Journalism by Samuel Abt (hb/dj)

Lot #2 - Three odd books Cycling Books - $9 + shipping
The Rider by Tim Krabbe - (softbound/no dust jacket)
The Bicycle in Wartime - An Illustrated History by Jim Fitzpatrick (SB /
NDJ - some sun bleaching on cover/spine)
Bicycling 1871 - A Textbook for Eearly Riders - (hb / dj)

All the others are singly priced:

Bikes & Riders by James Wagenvoord - (HB dust jacket torn - see photos)
I think I found this in a used bookstore at some point - it's sort of
culture and bikes and lifestyle. Very period-influenced. Also attempts to
cover history of cycling. Interesting for photos of pre-hype racing, etc.
- $5 plus shipping

King of the Road by Andrew Ritchie (SB / binding in rough shape)
Illustrated History of cycling. Lots of emphasis on the early days. - $3
plus shipping

The Custom Road Bike by Guy Andrews (HB / DJ / great condition throughout)
Glossy, beautifully photographed high end road bikes. Some nice steel, but
a lot of carbon snuck past the editors... Interview with builders. - $15

Stumpjumper - 25 years of Mountain Biking (HB - no DJ as published) very
good condition
Kinda cool look at how the Specialized Stumpjumper evolved in its first 25
years. Definitely a self-congratulatory puff-piece in places, but some cool
early days o' mountain biking images. - $10

Bicycle by David Herlihy - HB / DJ / good condition other than minor water
mark on just jacket
Another glossy, gorgeous "history of bicycling" book. $10

The Six-Day Bicycle Races - America's Jazz-age Sport by Peter Nye -
Hardbound. Dust Jacket in good condition.
Lots of nice photos from the heydey of indoor cycling in the US. $20.

The Official Tour de France Centennial 1903 - 2003. Forward by 5-times
winner Lance Armstrong. There ya go. (FYI - This book is heavy, so
shipping will be a tad more. ) Hardbound with dust jacket.
Big, oversized coffee table book with some really great photos from the
early days, as well as some enthusiastic press for cyclists who may have
hence fallen from grace. Still and amazing document. $15

Paris-Roubaix - A Journey Through Hell - hard back w/ dust jacket
If you are going to race bikes, you might as well do it over cobbles from
the time of the Roman Legions... - amazing images and history of this
brutal spring classic. $15

OK - here's the deal - You gotta email me directly - cyclofiend over yonder
at gmail.

Thanks for looking!

Re: [RBW] Rivendell Touchup Paint

2019-08-25 Thread Andrew Letton
Hi Charlie,If your frame is the same color as my similar vintage All-Rounder (
https://www.flickr.com/photos/letton/albums/72157621865586906 ) then there is a
Testors model paint that is an extremely close match. Sorry, but I've made two
international moves since I bought the paint, and I can't easily put my hands
on the bottle to get you the name of the color, but if you go to a model shop
that has a large selection of Testors paints, you'll probably have no trouble
finding it. (If you have no luck, ping me again, and I'll dig for the bottle
and get you the name.)cheers,Andrew

Looks nice, maybe a bit expensive (a little too new), doesn't take big
tires if that's what you're in to. The Brooklyn Bike Jumble's coming up in
a few weeks, you could find something there if not here. Or Jamison B.,
he's selling off stock for rockin' prices...

[RBW] Rivendell Touchup Paint

2019-08-25 Thread Joe Bernard
Riv doesn't really do touchup paint because even a "perfect" match is still
going to be an obvious dollop on the frame..most of us just use whatever's
close from Testors or fingernail polish, or clear polish. But your custom was
probably painted by Joe Bell so you may have some luck contacting him.

New to the list, and very grateful to have found my way to the
BOB/Riv/unracer subculture. Short tours and commutes and rides for errands
have been how I've biked since I was a kid, and it was welcome to see this
all expressed as a coherent ideology..

I've had my 2008 Jamis Aurora (cromoly steel) touring bike since that year,
and am now looking for a new (to me) bike.

If anyone is looking to sell a BOBish bike, in New York City or the region,
please let me know. I'm not looking for the perfect RB-1 at this point in
my life. Missed the bike boom by a few years, and am looking for a
venerable steel frame from the 70s-90s. Projects welcome.

Saw this listing on local CL. Thoughts?
