in Chicago and if anyone local wants to meet up, I'll deduct shipping from
the price.

1. Arcteryx Gamma Polartec Soft Shell MENS XL- I've had this for quite
some time and its been used a fair amount. It still has plenty of life
left and Arcteryx is great about fixing stuff. It has some dark spots from
use and the zipper is wearing a bit but it still works great. Its a made
in B.C. model as well. Polartec lining. *ASKING $50 SHIPPED.*

2. Eddie Bauer/ First Ascent Stormdown 800 fill Hoody MENS LARGE- This is
a slim fitting jacket that I wore for a couple of seasons but got a new
Atom LT hoody and am wearing that instead. I originally got it to replace
an original First Ascent downlight that had zipper issues. Has a few
stains from wear but is in good shape overall. *ASKING $40 SHIPPED.*

3. Mountain Hardwear Women's Gore Tex Pro Mountaineering Shell WOMENS
SMALL- My wife bought this a bunch of years back to wear as a commuter
jacket so her helmet could it in it but she never liked the cut and hasn't
worn it much. It is Gore Tex Pro, so you know, its pro! In great shape
and a cool orange color. *ASKING $50 SHIPPED.*

Re: [RBW] Re: FS: Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen 65cm (MUSA), f//f/h

2019-11-10 Thread MCT

I measured the Stack and Reach. I had to look how how to do it. This is
how I did it to make sure on same page. For Stack, I measured from floor
to top of center of headtube. Then measured from floor to center of bottom
bracket. I then subtracted these two numbers. For Reach, with bike
against a wall, I measured from center of top of headtube to the rear of
the frame to the wall. I then measured from the center of bottom bracket
to the rear of the wall. I subtracted these measurements. I used a level
to make sure the proper length because the top tube has a little but of
slope.

For stack, I measured 26.25 inches or 66.75 cm. For reach I measured 14.5
inches or 36.83 cm.

[RBW] FS: Outershell Wald 137 Basket Bag with Camera Padding Upgrade and Wald 137 Basket

2019-11-10 Thread Michael Ullmer
Cross-post from i-bob

Up for sale is an Outershell Wald 137 Basket Bag in Graphite X-Pac with the
Camera Padding Inserts Upgrade and the Wald 137 Basket it sat in. I bought
this bag brand new last year, but it's just not big enough for my needs. In
great shape, but does show signs of use, primarily on the inside which you
can see in the pics. No rips or abrasions on the outside that I could see.
This bag mainly saw use on weekend rides, it was never my everyday commuter
bag. The camera padding insert upgrade turns this bag into a camera bag,
something I never actually used. Overall, this cost me $215 without the
Wald basket.

Asking $175 shipped CONUS

Pics here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/AKoQ1FKhNMgsiZ3H9

More info on Outershell's site here:
https://www.outershelladventure.com/shop/137-basket-bag

Here's a great review of the bag from Path Less Pedaled:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8LXQAgAyFA

PM off-list, thanks!

[RBW] briar tires

2019-11-10 Thread Tom Horton
some advice please. I'm outfitting an MIT atlantis 62 for riding forest
roads and trails where I live on the eastern shore of maryland. not real
rough riding, though sandy in patches, BUT we have an eastern native
species, greenbriar (smilax), which is not goathead level in its ability to
flat tires, but still a tough customer.

I'd prefer to go the tough tire route vs slime or other sealant in the
tubes. the schwalbe marathon plus is one way, but mighty heavy and not
quite as wide as I'd prefer. schwalbe makes a smart sam with something
called double defense, nylon/kevlar belt, that looks pretty good and I
think their 2.25 inch would fit the atlantis without fenders.

anyone have experience with those tires, or others? and I often ride
pavement to get to the trails.

Re: [RBW] Re: Drivetrain Hack

2019-11-10 Thread John McBurney
Thank you! The front rack is a custom that I bought with the frame. It’s
as deep as Marks rack or similar but wider. It’s as wide as the Acorn rando
box. It attaches to the fork by boxing out the brake. I decided to splurge
on Paul Centerpull centermount brakes and the normal ways these would have
been difficult at best.

Honestly if I don’t get decent life out of this cassette I’ll go 9 speed
11-40 index in order to try to get better steel. BTW the FD is an Ultegra.

I really like the narrow double as an alternative to a 1X or triple when
combined with the wider range cassette. BTW if you go with the 34-46 and
11-40 you’ll be right at the gear capacity of the XT 9 speed speed Shadow
RD (41 teeth)

There are higher tooth capacity RD. For example the Microshift Advent will
shift a 42 and has 47 tooth gear capacity. It also has a clutch. It is only
supposed to work with their shifters so friction shifting solves that.

[RBW] Re: Drivetrain Hack

2019-11-10 Thread Pancake
What a great range with this setup! When my triple crankset is worn I'm
hoping to replace it with a similar setup to yours (though in 2x9) with a
Sugino or Silver double in front and probably with 34-46 because I'm a
heavy fellow surrounded by mountains that need the easier gearing. I'll
probably stick to a Shimano XT front deraileur too. But this was super
helpful info, thanks a million!

Separately: what is that front rack? I'm looking for an odd size (about
8"x8" +/- 1") platform top for under $100 to fit a one-off ILE "demi"
porteur bag and that looks like a good fit. The only good options I've
found are:
Blackburn Bootlegger $60

SimWorks Obento $160

VERY handsome ride, only downside seems to be it's so well appointed and
suited that maybe you won't need another bike after that!
