That was fun, thanks for the share.
You definitely put your Atlantis through its paces.
Is this a MIT frame?

[RBW] Re: Frame for sale

2019-12-12 Thread Jack Doran
+1 on it being appropriate for this group. Steel frame with braze-on
eyelets aplenty, takes fenders, has clearance for 700x38c tires without
'em, and has an aftermarket low trail fork. It might could even be
converted to a 650b so's you can run some chubber rubber to get sendy with
your friendy. Any way you slice it, this bike could be a super fun project
that's a little easier on the pocketbook than a Roadini or whatever.

Salsa has since gone in another direction, but I, for one, have a lot of
love for the production brands who do interesting things with steel frames
in almost every production cycle.

Jason, IF I remember correctly, the Bleriot was a Riv/QBP joint venture.

[RBW] Re: How do conversions with the Crust delivery fork ride?

2019-12-12 Thread jstewse
I'll add a data point for a bad handling setup. I put on clydesdale fork
on a (mid-eighties?) Schwinn Sierra that had some slack, early MTB angles,
I don't know how slack, but that thing was a floppy mess. Tolerable and
not really a huge deal once you got used to it unloaded, but with any
considerable weight it was really lousy. I had been waiting for an
appropriately sized frame with a steeper HT angle to fall into my lap, but
I sold it before that happened. For big grocery hauls, I prefer my BOB
trailer.

2019-12-12 Thread Isaac Enloe
Thanks, Justin. I really appreciate the quick review and photos. One of the
things I really like about the Basket Rack is that you can bring the basket
closer or further from the crown while keeping it level, unlike my old
Large Front Rack, which put the center of the basket in front of the hub
and could be a little unwieldy. I had wondered about the drop attachments,
both in terms of aesthetics and strength, so it's good to see that they
don't look bad and to hear that they feel secure.

It looks like I'll have some time to think more about it, because they're
all sold out.

Thanks again,

Re: [RBW] Re: What does a BMC Monstercross weigh?

2019-12-12 Thread Scott Sutherland
Thanks, the data point is appreciated. I've seen a built up 58 in person
and thought the TT was ideal, but that I'd definitely need an overall
taller frame (ST and HT) to get the fit I was after. Thus the 60 vs 62
comparison. Size aside, everything I've read suggests this is an ideal
frame for the commuter/all purpose rig I want to build.

[RBW] Re: BB Size? TOYO Atlantis

2019-12-12 Thread Garth

The Toyo Atlantis with a stock 24/26/46 XD triple originally was
suggested by Riv with a 107, but later they changed that to 110 or 113.
Everyone's idea of "enough" clearance of the rings to frame varies, and no
2 frames are ever exactly alike. It should be noted, the driveside axle
length of a 107 is the same as the 110, but you can add some spacers under
the lip and extend that side out up to about 2mm. Chainline was in the
45-46mm range. If you have a 113 however you could just use that too. I
believe the spec'd chainline with a 113 is about 47,5mm, actual chainline
will vary !

On my Bombadil, which has the same very bowed out stays from the BB, I
used the XD with 24/36/48 rings and a 110 BB with 1.5mm spacers behind the
DS lip. Clearance was fine. As I said, I coulda used a 113 which would
offer a slightly wider chainline, but a 110 was what I had so I went with
that.
