Re: [RBW] Leah Peterson Takes A Stand

2021-01-19 Thread 'Hetchins52' via RBW Owners Bunch
The Park is a good value and solid. I have an Ultimate from many years ago
-- Resembles the Feedback Sports and folds smaller and is lighter than the
Park. But it does cost more. The Feedback tool tray is a significant
accessory to add to the package.
Being able to change height and rotate your bike while it is in the stand
is a big advantage over the hooks suspended from ceiling joist method where
the bike is always swinging away from you as you try to work on it.

Re: [RBW] Leah Peterson Takes A Stand

2021-01-19 Thread Ian A
Another option to consider: my friend has two rubber coated hooks on ropes
dropping from the roof beam which hold the bicycle at the right height and
surprisingly securely. Not as secure as a stand, but the rope/hooks were
inexpensive, fold completely our of the way when not in use and don't mar
stickers or paintwork (if poor stand clamping technique is used).

The main advantage is not having a stand being in the way when not in use.
Even folded up, they take up room.

I have a Park Tool stand similar to this one:

https://www.parktool.com/product/deluxe-home-mechanic-repair-stand-pcs-10-2?category=Portable

I’ve had mine for a few years. Folds up easily, holds the bike very steady. The
clamp rotates to hold via the seat post (my preferred location) or the top
tube.

Mine differs from the stands on the Park web site in the way the legs fold up
and in the way the clamp works. Otherwise very much the same. I can highly
recommend it.

2021-01-19 Thread rltilley
I have an older version of this stand. It collapses down into a bag so it is
easy to store. It is stable and you can definitely clamp the seat post with it.
If you have the Grant approved fistful of seat post you may need to raise the
saddle a bit to fit the clamp.

2021-01-19 Thread Bicycle Belle Ding Ding!
Ok, that got your attention.

I’m not actually taking a stand so much as BUYING a stand. I have had it
with trying to work on a bike on its kickstand. Tonight I tried to put
sealant in my tire and the tire deflated and my Clementine tipped over.
Hopping mad...that would be an apt description of me in the garage tonight.
I’m sick and tired of wrecking my back and fed up with the awkwardness of
working on a bike that is always threatening to tip over. I’m taking a
stand against not having a stand.

I know Rivendell sells a stand but last I checked, it is sold out and also
$$$. Is there anything that makes their stand worth waiting for?

I don’t have many preferences, save two: I don’t want something that takes
up a bunch of room, and I want the clamp to be on the seat post. (Not the
frame.)

You’re the best!

Looking for a simple, accurate bike computer? Don’t need all the GPS-enabled
bells and whistles? On a budget?

I’m selling a BBB wireless computer (model BCP-15W) that I purchased in
Rambouillet in 2019 after I discovered that I had left my “real” bike computer
back in the USA. Used for a couple of rides, then carefully removed and stored
ever since. Comes with the O-rings, etc., needed to install, instruction

$20 shipped in the USA.

I missed out on the newest batch of these, saw the email too late.
If anyone ended up buying a medium and their noggin is too big/small, or
has an extra they'd like to part with.

Also looking for a pair of Gravel King SK+ 700x35, used and serviceable is
fine. Wanting to use them to train for a gravel ride w/o moving mine off
the QB daily driver.

Hit me up.

[RBW] Re: experience with Dia Compe 980s + tires wider than 45mm

2021-01-19 Thread Luke Volkmann
Howdy, I'm assuming that you're talking about the newer Dia Compe 980s with
threaded posts and not the 1980's 980s. I'm using these on a Crust
Romanceur with Rene Herse 650x48's that are measuring around 47mm on the
Pacenti Brevet rims. I don't need to deflate the tires when removing the
wheels from the bike. It'll take a look later and see if it looks like 2
more mm would still be an easy fit.

2021-01-19 Thread Willet Mather

Thanks, Nick, for the reminder and suggestions. I have read up some
previously about the pawl issue. As I have a handful of bikes and
wheelsets with the Phil cassette hubs, it's likely that I'll have the
problem flare up sooner or later. But fortunately, knock on (Phil) Wood, I
haven't had to deal with it yet. Luckily, all are "sunny Sunday afternoon
on the bikepath" bikes that get ridden 200 miles or less most seasons, so
I'm hoping the hubs will eventually outlive me.

I will admit to having an expensive and maybe impractical Ph-etish, but I
do thoroughly enjoy the aesthetics of how those Phil wheelsets look on
bikes that I expect to keep for ten or twenty years or more.

[RBW] experience with Dia Compe 980s + tires wider than 45mm

2021-01-19 Thread Patch T
Hi Bunch,

Does anyone have experience with Dia Compe 980s + tires wider than 45mm ?

Do you reckon I would have to deflate a tire that measures 49mm to fit
through?

I actually don't know the post spacing on the frame in question and realize
that may be a contributing factor. I'll measure when I can, which is not
right now.

Thanks
