[RBW] WTB — Sackville Bags

2021-04-04 Thread Michael J.
Hey all.

I am looking for a few Sackville bags for my new-to-me Rivendell Atlantis.
Preferably, I am looking for a bigger Saddlesack, and then maybe something
suitable to ride up front as well.

Bike pic for inspiration:

Please reach out if you have anything you’re looking to get rid of!

[RBW] Re: Front Derailleurs / Derailers / Whatever

2021-04-04 Thread Brian Campbell
Save yourself the time and aggravation of trying to find the correct rd.
This one will.

https://www.interlocracing.com/shop/product/60110-ird-front-derailleur-sub-c-braze-on-2351?search=derailleur

Buy the bolt on mount and your done. Its not the cheapest option but it
works really well. Also for Shimano drive trains the gap between the front
derailleur and the the large ring should only be a few millimeters. Yes you
can make other derailleurs work and it might be fine.

If you are really stuck, IRD makes a "Sub-C" front derailleur designed for
subcompact setups. From the picture, it appears to have a shorter cage
than usual. I cannot attest to its function or whether you need it, just
alerting you to its existence.

Hi Justin,
I'm on a Clem 52 H, so if the fork is different from the L, then this may
not help. Center to center, front axle to brake post is 10-1/2".

By the way, one year plus later, I'm still happily on the bars, stem and
saddle I got from you!

Jason, what is that crank you're using?

Re: [RBW] Re: Helicopter tape recommendation requested (a specific name or URL)

2021-04-04 Thread Pancake
I ordered this from Amazon for $20 (1“wide * 30’long) Racers Tape Surface
Guard Tape . https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000O6BQMG

Lots of reviews say it worked well for bike frames. 14mil seems unnecessary
UNLESS you’re wrapping the tube where your front rack or handlebars or
basket contact the frame on a full turn - no tape seems thick enough, I did
tape plus twine which has worked well for a couple years.

Good for where the bike rack hooks contact the frame so the cable doesn’t
run the paint.

Thanks Roberta
This frame is for my youngest who is 27, he finishes a Master’s this
summer. I already have an Appaloosa, a grey Roadini that is stored in Wales
with my sister for when I visit, a Cheviot, a Clem and an orange Roadini
that I just finished building with Losco bars and a Bitex hub wheelset. My
oldest kid got a Clem complete from me two years ago.

Dorothy, That must have been a white knuckle few moments. I'm so glad you

I am happy for Riv. Good they made out. I tried to purchase one, and
it seemed between 12:00 and 12:01 the mermaids sold out. I was able to
load a lime green, but when I added the build up up the frame, they were
 sold out.

Divine intervention telling me to go for the Apaloosa in late April.

[RBW] Re: Platypus is sold out in 50 cm.

2021-04-04 Thread Jay LePree
Hi all:

Thanks to Roberta Chase who referred me to Analogue cycles. I was able to
procure a 50 cm Olive green and they will do the build for me. They seem
really great to work with.

[RBW] Re: Ride Report: Yakushima Island, SW Japan

2021-04-04 Thread John Rinker
Indeed, Takashi, I did come across this quote several times in my reading
about the island. I got very lucky with the weather. The week before I
arrived it rained every day. Regarding a visit, I cannot recommend it
highly enough. The riding is easy and the camping is first-rate with some
very beautiful spots. Cheers.

2021-04-04 Thread Takashi
Ah, Yakushima!

Thank you for sharing, John! I enjoyed your write-up and photos very much.
I've been curious about the island for years, but never made the visit.
Your post makes me feel like I must visit there right away.

Looks like it didn't rain very much while you were there.
Perhaps you have heard of a famous quote from a novel by Fumiko Hayashi
which says "They say that it rains 35 days a month in Yakushima."
