[RBW] WTB: Mouseproof handlebar bag

2021-04-11 Thread Drw
I'm looking for a medium capacity handlebar bag with a few specific
requirements.

-rackless/decaleurless
-larger than the little tube barrel style bags
-uses a zipper or multi roll closure

The last requirement is on account that the bike gets left in a rural shed
and any bags with flap openings, like a carradice, become mouse nests
really fast (also if anyone knows how to keep mice out of nesting in lawn
mowers, that would be great intel).

Id have bought the velo orange mini rando bag but its sold out. Open to
something bigger too, like a roadrunner jammer. Would like to keep it under
100$

I have a honey brooks conquest, green guru triangle bag, soma osprey
handlebars if a trade is of any interest. Also happy to pay.

email is Dr ewbeck meyer @gmail.com
Drew. Los angeles.

Re: [RBW] Re: Landscapes within 10 miles (these actually within 5 miles) of home

2021-04-11 Thread Patrick Moore
David: Where is this in relation to the mountains separating Calabasas and
the coast highway? It has been too long since I lived (college) across the
street from the Malibu Creek State Park, back then the 20th Century Fox
Motion Picture Ranch. Are these shots anywhere near that and Las Virgines
Road on the way to Malibu? That area used to be prime weekend roadie
territory back in the early and mid 1970s, and I recall riding wonderful
canyon roads, Coldwater Creek etc, tho' my memory of the ear is now very
fuzzy.

Anecdote: Friend of friend, now retired podiatrist in southern NM, father
owned well known Santa Monica bike shop, took brakeless track bike into the
Santa Monica mountains, with predicted results.

[RBW] Re: Landscapes within 10 miles (these actually within 5 miles) of home

2021-04-11 Thread Patrick Moore
Just for fun: more high desert landscapes and cholo (used descriptively and
not deprecatingly; I happen to like the culture) English. The freeway is
I-25 on the way to Raton Pass -- I've driven it often cruising at 90 until
the CO border -- and the towns are northern RG valley north of Santa
Fe (still officially La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asís,
the Royal City of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis of Assisi).

I PUT SOME GAS - tribute to northern New Mexico talk...

[RBW] X-Posting from iBoblist: ISO ss or ss-compatible 175 mm lowish-Q square taper crank for 32 t single ring

2021-04-11 Thread Patrick Moore
Riding the Monocog again today I once again thought that it would be nice
to remove at least 10 mm from the present 168 mm Q of the Truvativ crank
which has 15 mm right and 22.5 mm left clearance; I need 5 mm per side at
most, so could theoretically reduce Q to just over 140 mm on this frame,
tho' I'd be happy to reduce it below 160 mm. 168 mm q is rideable, but
trying to spin the 65" gear fast with the longer 175 mm arms emphasizes the
width.

At any rate, would like to find a small bcd crank with less flare for which
32 t rings are not too hard to find -- 32 happens to work well with a 15 or
16 t cog and my wheels in this frame. I am only familiar with 110, 130, and
144 bcds, so I'll need instruction on what to avoid as well as what to
seek. I think my Truvativ has a 104 mm bcd as the distance between adjacent
bolts is about 73 mm. 104 mm bcd cranks and rings seem to be popular BMX
components, no? They are cheap. What are good makes and models, with a
premium on (in descending order of importance) Q, quality, price, color
(black first, silver second, could use red)?

For used, not interested in very high dollar -- can move to 110 bcd if need
be with larger ring and cog; but interested to hear what you have to offer.

Also interested in 2-piece cranksets if 32 t ring and low Q as described,
and tolerably durable bearing system for very dusty and gritty surfaces.

Thanks.

2021-04-11 Thread Patrick Moore
It's fun to make your own bike parts, but just FYI: BB Bash Guard offers
nice looking guards in all sizes and shapes and colors for very little
money. I saw one just now for $12; I think mine is like that.

https://bbgbashguard.com

My brother has made his own from discarded rings, but he starts by snapping
the teeth off with a vise grip or something like that. I should think that
easier than sawing.

Re: [RBW] Re: Front Derailleurs / Derailers / Whatever

2021-04-11 Thread Ian A

Hacksawing off the teeth and then filing is best. You can always remount it
on the crank to the bike and have someone turn the crank while you hold the
file to the ring, creating a makeshift lathe. Using a dremel or
benchgrinder means potentially breathing in fine aluminum dust, which is
not a healthy option.

Ben, when you say "stuck" is the chain jamming and stopping the cranks,
or is it falling between the rings? If it's just a problem of the chain
 not
moving over far enough to hit the granny, you may be able to adjust the
indexing (or reposition the cable in the fixing bolt) to make that shift
more solid against the chain. This is hard to explain in word pictures but
imagine a friction shift where you kept pushing down on the left bar-end
until the chain made it over to the small ring. Her shifter needs to slap
that fd cage over hard/far enough to complete the shift.

(I really liked this saddle and thought it superior to B17 for comfort.)

Other items:
Fuchsia color handlebar Tape--2 rolls. New. I think it's Green Grips
Brand. $15 for the pair. Perk up those handlebars!
https://analogcycles.com/product/green-grips-bar-tape/

Possum Merino Neckie--Raspberry. New. Sold out at Riv. It's beautiful,
but I think this will be too warm for me. $30.
https://www.rivbike.com/products/possum-wool-neckie-cable-charcoal?_pos=1&_sid=99669a798&_ss=r

Sackville Strap $10. New. I bought this for my Banana Sack, but it is too
wide. I'd also do an exchange for a 10-14" strap that is not as wide so I
can use it as intended.
https://www.rivbike.com/collections/bags/products/long-buckle-sackville-leather-strap-15-each

Pedals that came with Joe Appaloosa. $15. One pedal is perfect. The
other has minor lateral movement, so the pedal "clicks" at the top of the
stroke. I've sold the Joe A and the new owner put on his own pedals.

Pedals I purchased from a wonderful list member because I was getting a new
bike and needed something within a few days. These are very nice touring
pedals, no issues. I ended up replacing them with the Clem pedals, just
because they were thinner. $5 (These have good reviews on Amazon, but I
just cannot find the pedal.)

Cork Grips. $15. These are nice in they have the barrel shape (very
comfy) and I had them on Joe Appaloosa for awhile. I bought this extra set
since changing handlebars means ruining the grips and I liked these. Since
sold the bike, so no need for these.

Drive Train takeoffs from Joe Appaloosa, from when I changed it to 1x11.
Ridden almost exclusively on pavement, never in rain. Always stored
indoors. Approx 3000 miles, used for three years. Since don't have the
proper degreasers, these come with plenty of dirt (no extra charge :) )
and need to be cleaned.

Rear Derailleur. Shimano Deore M591 $30
Front Derailleur. Shimano FD-CX70 $25
Cassette with hardware. Shimano HG. $20 . 36, 32, 28, 24, 21, 18, 16, 14.
Chain. $10.

Shipping not included, and it could take me up to a week to pack and ship,
so please let me know if you're in a hurry.

[RBW] Re: WTB: Brooks B17 short in honey

2021-04-11 Thread Roberta
Not a B17S, but if the Professional S is similar enough for you, then this
is on my local CL. No relation. :

Re: [RBW] Re: Fattest Tire on a QB?

2021-04-11 Thread Patch T
Very nice. They look great with the grilver frame. Some day they'll look
great on my orange.
The mullet set up I have (different bike) with 650b x 48 is especially fun
on trails for skidding through turns and gettin loose. Curious how it feels
on a QB with 700c x 42.
If you don't feel good about the clearance you currently have, you can
always move the wheel back with a longer chain or added links.
Enjoy!
