Re: [RBW] Re: Yves Gomez – mustardified

2022-10-03 Thread Max S
Thanks, Leah. I like Lemondrop, though I do like my mustard!

Thank you all for the compliments! It's for my one-and-only, so after
(re)building up the bike, I only took a short test ride around the block.
Everything stayed attached, nothing rattled, and the bike handled very
nicely. Single-speed, low-ish gearing, smooth and quiet. I'm divided on the
black-painted wheels, but am fresh out of anything silver and 135 mm
spaced, so this will have to do for now. I guess it makes the frame color
pop more.

Y'all the best!

2022-10-03 Thread Max S
George,
yes, luckily the shipping was via BikeFlights, who were very good about
reimbursement, all things considered. Note that reimbursement wasn't for
the total insured amount, but for the amount of repair & repaint. I had to
provide first detailed photos of the exterior of the box, the damage
itself, and the inside of the box that showed there was packing material,
etc. I also had to provide the quote for the repair / repaint, etc.

Re: [RBW] Fork Crack!

2022-10-03 Thread 'Eric Norris' via RBW Owners Bunch
I would stop riding that bike immediately.

Get a new fork—that one looks like it would be very difficult to repair, and a
fork is a high-stress item that will generate catastrophic results if it fails
while you’re riding.

2022-10-03 Thread Roberta
It is so great to greet people in person that we met on the boards. The
last two years that they had it, we met at the lunch area and chatted while
looking over booths. Pam led a 7am Saturday morning ride that was so much
fun, we got together Sunday to do another. I live in Philadelphia. We saw
art, buildings , historic places, nature, Japanese house and garden, the
“Rocky” step, liberty bell.

I met Brian Chapman from Chapman cycles, and Deb from Rivit, and visited
with the Riv guys. All wonderful people. Keystone bikes is hosting s party
Saturday nite. They “get” Riv.

Oh, yeah, there is some bike oriented booths too. :). Two days of
entertainment.

[RBW] Re: Fork Crack!

2022-10-03 Thread Joe Bernard
That looks structural to me. My vague recollection is those forks got
beefed up after the first run of Appaloosas so you might want to contact
Riv about background on this.

If the 57 and 58 Appas use the same size wheels then the new fork should
fit.

[RBW] Re: Fork Crack!

2022-10-03 Thread iamkeith

There's a lot or rust going on there, whether it's the only issue or not.
But my first instict is that this should be a forensic evaluation involving
Rivendell - not a bunch of arm chair guessing, which is all any of us can
do from photos. You probably don't want to ride it until you know, so why
not send it to them (if they agree), and see what they say. If it's rust
or impact related it might not be fair to consider it a warranty thing,
but they could certainly help you figure out how to move forward.

[RBW] Re: WTB: 650b rim brake wheelset

2022-10-03 Thread S. Greco
I have a set. Mavic MR601 hubs with Mavic skewers laced to Velocity Dyads.
They are 130 spaced and currently have a 9 speed SRAM cassette which is
included.
$350 + $50ish for shipping.

I'm in need of a 650b rim brake, quick release wheelset in silver for a
new build. In solid consideration is the Crust 650b wheelset for $575. I
don't need a dynamo hub, but I'm not opposed to it (it'll just necessitate
buying a light as well) 48mm tires will likely live on them most of the
time but quite possibly 55mm as well.

Anyone have anything not getting used that can compete with the Crust
wheels that they'd like to sell? I'm in no way a wheel expert so other new
wheelset suggestions are welcome. I tried this a year or to ago and got a
bit overwhelmed at the time, leaving some good folks offers and
 suggestions
hanging, so I'll try not to do that again.

[RBW] Re: I pedaled the puddle

2022-10-03 Thread Joe Bernard
Huh, that's a fascinating description of how spinning feels to you. I'm the
opposite, I like to spin-spin-spin and
find the hard-gear/push-hard thing to be more stressful. I don't know why
and I'm practicing getting better with it cuz that spin does have the
effect of making every ride take all dang day to get where I'm going.

Group ride:
What's funny is it didn't end up being one. The 20-milers were supposed to
leave no earlier than 10am so we wouldn't get to the rest stop before they
were set up, I expected the whole group to take off at once. Nope! It was
very 'everyone just wandering around and doing their own thing' when I got
there so I snapped a pic and hit the road by myself. Eventually I joined up
with a father and son and we did the crazy-fast downhill together, so that
was cool.

Riv recommends
a PBH range of 89-97 cm here -->

Also, wow, I've had nothing but trouble with Google's notification system
with this post. Missing PMs, and now failure to notify me of cmrngetty's
email.

P.S. Once the sale goes through, I will most likely make a separate FS post
with parts I do not decide to keep. If you're interested in something, feel
free
to shoot me a PM.

[RBW] FS: Rivendell Brand V Handlebar Bag

2022-10-03 Thread Conway Bennett
All,

I had this bag with me when I visited Riv HQ and the staff was gushing over
it. I think this was my first Rivendell item ever, and it was my primary
bag for many years starting in 2012 hence the wear. The strap that goes
around the head tube came off long ago but I still have it as well the
unused map case. I would want $45 net to me plus shipping.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/f1uCbJ8iUtpcHfB76

Thanks in advance for your consideration,

Captain Conway

P.S. I still have the Paul Neo Retro brakes available $170 net to me plus
shipping.

2022-10-03 Thread Leah Peterson
Joe, you have to come. Just do it for the weekend. I never get away for these
things either, I hear ya, but I’m forsaking my responsibilities and doing it. I
have to drive all by myself for 10 hours each way, but I’ll find enough coffee
and courage and just do it. Rivendell will be there, too. There will be group
rides in the city and seminars to attend at the convention. Here’s the website:

https://phillybikeexpo.com/

Now, will you pack your bike in a box like Pam Murray and bring it along? I
think yes.

You don't even have to use spacers - you can use a two nylock nuts - one at
each end of where the spacer would be - infinite adjustability.
Or a spring like this:

Yes you can reuse (if they're not cut too short) the stays on the bike. You
probably have rubber caps on the ends you'll need to remove, then you can
slide them off the old fenders and onto the new ones.

[RBW] SKS Fender Hardware addition - Riv video advisement

2022-10-03 Thread Tim Tetrault
Hi Group-

I've placed an order for SKS P50 Longboards for my 2011 side pull style Sam
Hillborne.

Using this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG_WZVS9SUY

Rivendell advises picking up some 1/2 inch and 1 inch spaces for the rear
install, near the chainstay bridge.

If I go to Home Depot, what precisely am I looking for? Are these 4mm, 5mm
wide? I want to pick up some extras for my wife's bike too.

Additionally, I currently have a set of standard chromoplastic (P40 or so
sized) mounted- can I keep the fender stays mounted and just mount/bolt the
fender to these to save myself the cutting job? (I know I'd have to
probably bend them some)

Thanks for any guidance you have.

but excellent shape. Includes brand new upgraded Tektro cartridge pads. $65
   - (2) Nitto Technomic stems. Both are 90mm. One has 25.4mm clamp, one
   has 26.0mm. $40 each.
   - Acorn small/medium saddlebag. Tan canvas. Great shape, some stains. $60
   - Swrve 'Durable Cotton' skinny fit knickers. Black. Marked as 32" but
fit more like 30". I wore these a bunch but they are tough as nails and
show almost no wear. Love these but they don't fit my waist anymore. $40

[RBW] Philly Bike Expo ride from/to Bergen City, NJ?

2022-10-03 Thread Elton Lance
Hello all,

I’ll be visiting family and plan on going to Philly Sat. 10/28 and returning
10/29. Would be willing to split travel expenses (gas, tolls).

Is anyone going to be driving either/or of those days?

You know you could likely find your own washer "add-ons" at a hardware

That's a good idea Mark. I had my CX70s on a Hunqapillar and the medium
washers were the right fit on that bike-- which suggests that Rivendell
probably did not use the large washers much at all. They are nice brakes
but you need to make sure you keep the pivot/bushing well oiled because
they will corrode and become gritty or useless.

[RBW] Re: Philadelphia Bike Expo 2022

2022-10-03 Thread Wally Estrella
It's on my calendar, so that means I'm hoping to go. I'm riding the
Appalachian Gravel Grinder the week before, so I have to juggle some PTO
and cat-sitter stuff. My wife has some family in Philly so that's a plus
on me getting down there. It'll probably be an Oct 28th decision...
