[RBW] Re: WTB: randoneur style bag for front rack

2022-10-13 Thread Andrew Turner
I've got a Ruthworks I'm trying to sell on eBay which will work great with
this rack. Here's the link to the
posting. It's basically new, used once, but I did cut a small slit in one
of the back pockets for an external battery that's been covered with some
tenacious tape. For RBW Group: 165 +shipping.

Cheers,
Andrew

[RBW] Re: Seeking Advice - Shimano 9 Speed Downtube Shifters

2022-10-13 Thread Corwin Zechar
Hi Matt -

I am familiar with the gentleman in Albuquerque. We have traded several
times (both directions).

I now have options on two sets of 9 speed Dura Ace levers. And both are
local. So hopefully - no shenanigans required in Albuqurque.

I agree. Using 10 speed shift levers requires the cable routing hack on the

Re: [RBW] How to bond plastic knob to metal screw?

2022-10-13 Thread Josiah Anderson
Oh, rereading I see now that you're actually trying to get the new knob to
stay put. What if you used that same locknut idea, just with one nut
pushing against the back of the knob? That would probably hold it on quite
securely.

Re: [RBW] How to bond plastic knob to metal screw?

2022-10-13 Thread Josiah Anderson
The goal is to remove that threaded rod, right? I would try to find two
nuts that fit on there and lock them together, like you would on a hub
axle, and just use those to turn it. Alternatively you could wrap it in
something soft (bar tape?) and turn it with vise grips or something. I
don't think the broken plastic knob necessarily has to be involved in this
process, unless I'm missing something, which is very possible.

Re: [RBW] Re: Nitto Basket Rack: is it too heavy?

2022-10-13 Thread Bicycle Belle Ding Ding!
I got my bike done today at the shop and it has made a huge difference in
ease of lifting it onto the rack. I didn’t get far with setting it up again
because when I got home I realized the rear dyno light isn’t working now.
She shop had to mess with the dyno wiring and something is likely off, but
I can’t see what. Also, they wadded up the wire and zip tied it to the top
tube, near that pretty head tube lug and it’s hideous. I will beg them (and
pay them again) to wire that bike more classily. My other bike is a perfect
example, so maybe I bring that in as a guide.

But, once I get these details handled, I do think I’m going to love the
improvements. Photos to come!

As a non-front-rack guy (so why are you even posting, Joe??) I have no

weight. When I had my custom designed, then added parts, I leaned towards
as much lightness as I could safely get away with for the use. Lighter =
easier/faster was a consideration, but the main goal wasn't for riding but
moving the thing around. If it's a struggle to get up the steps to my
 house
or load in the back of the car I'm going to be annoyed by that, the bike
needs to be accessible in all ways. SO. If you're struggling to load it
 and
can find a lighter/smaller rack to do the same job, I think this is the
 way.

 Hello Rivsters,

I'm parting with a couple bikes, hope someone else can put them to good
use. This is a 58cm Toyo Atlantis that I got off the group. It's in fairly
good shape based on it's age. Chain suck, cable rub, a couple chips on the
headtube, the usual for a used, almost 20 year old bike. I'm selling the
F/F/HS, seatpost, BB, and your choice of either or both wheelsets. The
silver wheelset is Velocity Dyads laced to a Shimano dynamo and Shimano LX
rear hub, both 36 hole, and have Rene Herse 700x44 Snoqualmie Pass tires
 on
them. They came with another bike and are in very good condition but I
can't comment on their mileage or who built them. The black set is
 Velocity
Dyads laced to a SP dynamo hub, and Shimano XT rear, 32 hole front, 36
 hole
rear. These are Rich built from Riv, they also came on another bike so I
can't comment on their mileage either. These have Soma Cazaderos, 700x50.
Both sets are interchangeable without adjusting the brakes.

For reference in the pics, the bike is setup with a 5cm stem, Crust
towel racks, and the saddle height is 77cm.

Price for the frame and both wheelsets is $1800. Frame only $1200,
$300/set for the wheels. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility unless you
want to pick up from me in IN about an hour outside of Chicago. If you
want/need parts lmk and maybe we can work something out.

[RBW] Re: FS: SKF, Suntour brakes, Son Dynamo

2022-10-13 Thread Collin A
Thanks Joe!

The SKF bb has sold. The remainder is still available:

Some silver1 downtube shifters. The left is in good condition, the right is
a little banged up, but functions perfectly (the arm appears bent a bit and
the rivet covering the ratchet is sheared). *Asking $45 shipped.*..basically
it's an almost* 2-for-1 deal!

Suntour XCD cantilever brakes with the self energizing rear. Tried these
before I settled on the paul cantis on there now. Quite adjustable and
quite powerful and would be a good set of cantis for sam, joe, or
atlantis...maybe even Gus/Susie? *Asking $50 shipped*.

24h son delux hub - not the typical Riv part, least of which because it is
intended for disc brakes (gasp), but also black and thru-axle and only 24h.
I used it on a go-fast rando bike this past year, but switching up the
fleet and no longer need this jewel of a hub. *Asking $250 shipped*

[RBW] Re: Crooked Clem H fork

2022-10-13 Thread Ryan Frahm
Thank you for the reply! If I had a bit more knowledge and something stable
to place the fork in I might give it a shot. I’m sure it would be fine if a
local frame builder has time. I was messaged directly to try Elephant
bikes, so I might give them a call depending on what Riv says when they get
back to me.

The fork has some decent wear and a bit of rust that I wouldn’t mind a new
one if one exists or the cost isn’t crazy.

2022-10-13 Thread 'John Hawrylak' via RBW Owners Bunch
Jon

I suggest you look at the Roadrunner bag VO sells. It was made with
grommeted holes in the back which match the holes in the VO decailluer.
Randonneur Handlebar Bag - Velo Orange (velo-orange.com)

I see they are sold out, but give them a call and see when they will be
in. I believe they are MUSA, so the wait should be short.

The VO decailluer is too short for standard Berthoud type bag ad does not
reach the leather strip typically on the back of the bag..

provided the fork is only bent to the side it's not terribly difficult to
do yourself. I had good luck at my LBS as well but the head mechanic was a
hobby frame builder so was quite good at alignment. If there's any local
frame builders, they also should be able to cold set your forks easy
enough.

To follow up on Minh's questions - I also commute in SF, and I like to take
my bags off my bike if I lock it outside. So what's worked well for me is a
front rack with a Wald basket with a bag that sits inside.

Here's a sweet bag that's made locally too-

Incremental and common sense approach to touring on a Homer. This is an
amazing group. Thanks to everyone for their thoughtful and diverse
feedback.

Very heartwarming to see so many embrace the activity. Sad that your stint
was marred by parent problems in continued participation and equipment
readiness. Not caring is a position kids learn because most things can be
presented to them in a manner that does elicit their care.

Art,

The bus racks didn’t fit my Clem. I haven’t had a chance yet to use the
King County light rail, or trains in this region, so I don’t know about
those. I have a couple of pictures of it on a “practice rack.” I’ll post
them here later tonight.
