[RBW] Le Tour De Shore Ride anyone?

2024-06-09 Thread Bicycle Belle Ding Ding!
Hi Friends,

I am, for the first time, doing the Le Tour De Shore Ride that starts in
Chicago and concludes in New Buffalo, Michigan. I’ve never done something
like this where I begin in one city and state and end in another. Really
excited, but also nervous. I am also doing it without any buddies. I’m sure
I’ll meet nice people on the ride, but it would be so great if those nice
people could be YOU. I’ll arrive Thursday night to my hotel and bike with
my stuff to the start of the ride. I should be on the raspberry Platypus.
Probably will put the Nitto big back rack on so I can bring my stuff from
my hotel in my Backabike bags and drop at gear check. I got packing cubes
for this! an experiment! Will this work? Don’t know. Lots of handwringing.

Anyway, is anyone on here planning to do the ride? I’d love to meet up
and/or ride together. Here’s the ride info, in case anyone wants to sign up
last minute:

Undercover Cop Never Knew Selling Drugs Was Such Hard Work
PublishedMarch 5, 2003

PHILADELPHIA—Rick Bastone, 31, an officer with Philadelphia's 23rd
Precinct, has gained newfound respect for America's hard-working drug
dealers ever since going undercover to sell narcotics.

"I had no idea how tough this was," said Bastone, standing on a dilapidated
corner in 20-degree weather while awaiting a cocaine drop-off Monday. "I
guess I imagined it being like in the movies: drinking champagne,
hot-tubbing with honeys, and cruising in customized Escalades while
watching the cash roll in. But here I am, freezing my ass off. I've got to
say, these drug-dealing scumbags really earn their pay."

[RBW] More Sams less Scams

2024-06-09 Thread Tim Bantham
Hello all, I was victimized by the aforementioned scammer you may have
heard about in a previous post by our moderator Cyclofiend Jim. In good
faith I paid for Albastache bars that didn't exist. Rather then waste any
more negative energy on ranting about how horrible this person is I am
going to instead flip the switch and talk about why I love my Rivendell
bicycle. Will you keep the positive energy going by responding in kind?

Yesterday I was riding in Analog Cycles annual 4x4 event. I was happily
under biking with my Sam Hillborne on the notoriously rocky and muddy
unmaintained roads of Vermont known as class IV.

Although the ride was well attended at one point I found myself alone, just
me and 2TT beloved Sam Hillborne. As I was crossing the ridge I looked out
at the impossible beauty of the Green Mountain state I thought about all of
the ways my life has been enriched by this Rivendell bicycle. A simple
machine but I have a connection to this bike that only readers of this
forum will understand. I realized how lucky I am to have my health and the
financial means to own not one but three Rivs. I am thankful for this small
community we call RBW Owners Bunch.

Let's keep this positive energy going! Tell me why you love your Rivendell.

It’s almost funny how deep into the weeds a scammer has to get when they’re
chasing down photos of steel bike frames (total geek niche), of specific old
sub-label bike frames (sub-level niche!) of odd non-mainstream geek’s geek
label (sub-sub-sub-niche)….etc…. [however one would associate Herons with

Well said, Corwin! My first 2 Rivendells were ordered with BB and HS
installed and my late partner built up the rest of the bikes as he was a
good mechanic. In 2016 when I ordered my mixte and his health was declining
I ordered all the parts from Rivendell . Mark built the bike and Rich built
the wheels. The labor was about 200 USD + 50 for fender installation, and ,
having watched videos of Mark at work, I think it was money
well-spent...and I agree that Rivendell IS worth supporting. In late 2015
when I ordered my bike, I think Riv was having some financial challenges at
the time and I was more than happy to support them. Win/win.

I do understand the motivation to build your own bike but I myself
certainly don't have the workshop or next-level skills of someone like Bill
Lindsay...so it made sense to me to go all-in with Rivendell. Know thyself
as others have said.

I'm going to call BS on this. I sincerely doubt that there is a bike
shop on earth, with a mechanic experienced-enough that I'd want them
building my bike, who would quote under $100 for a frame-up bike assembly,
when I've bought none of the parts from them and didn't buy the frame from
them. It's a 3-4 hour job. Any mechanic worth their salt is billing $1 a
 minute for the
