I like the idea of my daughter riding the Clem but the urge to purge was
too great. Found someone who will appreciate the bike with a few bells and
whistles taken off and a significantly reduced price. Goodbye Clem. Happy
riding all!

Good input. Y'all are confirming my fears here. I am more emotionally
attached to it than i've been willing to admit and that doesn't really
translate financially. Time to sell the dyno wheel and bag separately and
try to get $1800 for the discontinued H. Thanks for the feedback

There are multiple ways you can build this and your Atlantis
differrntly, to feel distinct and complimentary to each other. They're
 not
going to build the H / full triangle versions again.

I do wonder if the value is limited somewhat in the 52, because the
wheel size is the same as millions of vintage mountain bikes. The long,
low, comfortable geometry is what makes it stand out and would be what to
highlight - either in a build or in the sales market. Also, remember that
the Clem was conceived specifically to be less expensive than a high-end
version of a used, rigid, vintage mtb which were getting ludicrous prices
 in the used market.

I do think you should clean it up and re-take pictures if you're going
to ask a premium price like you are.

Re: [RBW] Re: Front basket rack recommendations

2023-09-21 Thread Alex K
Oh boy. That is a brilliant use of the Tumbleweed rack If only The Sam
fork had those mounts on the fork I really really dig that. As far as
the Tunitas 137 Basket Tote in the Wald 139 basket, I tried a Tunitas 139
Basket Bag in the 139 basket and it was way too snug, no wiggle room and I
really had to jam it in there to get it to feel right. The 137 Basket Tote
just fits better. Similar issues with the Sackville ShopSack Large vs.
Medium. The large WILL fit, but the medium fits like a glove. Will keep an
eye out for the pelago

[RBW] Front basket rack recommendations

2023-09-21 Thread Alex K
Just found a screamin deal on a fully built 51 Sam. Now it's time to get it
kitted out. I love my Pass And Stow for the heavy duty- stuff and
aesthetically, it's unmatched IMO. Perhaps a bit of overkill as a simple
basket rack. Would love an RBW51 Nitto rack, but not sure I can justify the
$288 plus tax. Looking for something simple and elegant and cost-efficient
for mounting a Wald 139 Hardware-less Basket and a Tunitas 137 Tote.
If anybody has a well used RBW51 that they would be willing to part with,
I'd love to hear from you.
Also looking for other options and would love to see what y'all are using
for your Wald 139 Baskets.
Thanks!

[RBW] Re: Current cork grip gluing BKM?

2023-09-10 Thread Alex Wirth
It's tricky because you can split the grip if you're not careful doing it
this way buttypically adding one strip of newbaums lengthwise on the
bar adds enough friction to keep everything snug and in place. Only use
one piece about 1/3 to half the length of the grip. Start with less and see
how the fit isI've found that the inner diameter of the grips has
changed slightly over the years.

[RBW] FS: Dark Olive Green SACKVILLE SMALL SADDLESACK

2023-09-07 Thread Alex K
This is the smaller version of the BagBoy. You can read about some of the
differences here:
https://www.rivbike.com/products/sackville-bagboy
It is quite well used. I trimmed the strap, as you can see, as it always
dangled and I never stuffed it so full that I ever needed all that strap.
Also, it's missing a RIVet for the strap. Again, well used. Not many of
these floating around anymore, and I've updated to a BagsXBird Piccolo as a
saddlesack. Here are pics of the bag, email me for pics of the bag mounted
if you'd like. This was, according to the page I shared above, $162 new. so
I'll halve that and call it $81 for local Bay Area buyers
$90 shipped CONUS.
If this seems outrageously high, just make me an offer.
I would also be willing to use this bag as trade for a BagsXBird Medium or
Large Goldback, no matter the condition.
Thanks!
Alex

Make an offer if you think I'm priced too high.

[RBW] FS Silca Impero frame pumps

2023-09-04 Thread Alex Wirth
Three sizes available, don't know if they really coincide with the sizing
on their website so here's the compressed length and total length
measurements:

Small 18-19.5"
Medium 22-22.5"
Large 22.5-24"

(Pic in next comment)

All very light use. $60 shipped

Non fee payment preferred but happy to do goods and services with another
3.5% (I have all the major ones)

Cheers!

If anyone would like to add on some very inexpensive cables or housing I
have some bulk I'd pass along for a steal (with something else otherwise
shipping doesn't compute).

Stainless steel brake (road or mountain) and shifter cables= Any (6) for $9

Black brake or derailleur housing 7' for $5

I also have tubes for $4 ea (Q tubes, good quality)

Take a spin through my instagram for the progression of various set-ups.
Truth is you'll probably want several options to suit the Bike Lyfe :-)

https://www.instagram.com/yellowhausbicycles/?hl=en

Can't say enough about front-mounted optionsalong with a bakfiets.

Both our kids started in the bakfiets in a click-in infant car seat (both I
think around 6 mos).

Have fun!!

upright posture and approaching 200 lbs any of my brooks would be nice and
comfy by now.

I think I’ll start by adding some proof hide to bottom…

Wish me luck! 😅

Hey all,
Rainy season is almost over in the Bay Area, but I'm going to be try and be
more prepared next year. I am looking at ponchos, and I have decided that
the PEOPLE'S PONCHO is the one I'm going to buy. But, I'd love to hear/see
what everybody else is rocking for their rainy day full coverage (including
front basket and bag) rain gear. I know there are going to be varied
responses here, but I'm hoping we can focus on PONCHOS!!!!

Thanks for reading,

[RBW] FS 60cm Simple One and 61cm MUSA Homer

2022-10-30 Thread Alex Wirth- Owner, Yellow Haus Bicycles
Couple of very special bikes up for sale here folks:

First up is a 60cm Simple One in green

Frame measures:

58cm st c-c
58cm tt c-c
85cm standover

Cranks are 43/34

Rear hub has a dingle 17/19 FW on one side and 21 FW on the other. You can
use the large ring with the dingle and small ring with the 21. Pretty cool
set-up!!!

Suzue hubs, Atlas rims, 32H f&r, wheels built by Rich, Soma Shikoros 700x42

Does not come with saddle and light mount but does come with everything
else (pedals, spurcycle bell, handlebar bag)

I can't remember the name of the handlebars but they're made by VO. Stem is
a nitto technomic. Rides butter smooth, a very cool bike, nice upright
riding position. Reach out with any questions or anything I missed. Paint
is about right for a bike this age, small chips and scratches not
dings/dents or issues.

$2,200 shipped conus with non-fee payment (paypal f&f, venmo, cashapp,
zelle) Paypal G&S also available but add 3%.

_

Next up is one of my grail bikes, an absolute sweetheart.

61cm Made in the USA Homer Hilsen

Measures:

59cm st c-c
58cm tt c-c
86cm standover

Custom french blue with braze on centerpulls and Compass brakes

This frame was built by Waterford.

Super upright zero offset Analog stem with Whisky drops.

Veloce 10 speed groupset.

40/30 rings on a VO crank

12/30 rear cassette

Compass barlow pass 700x38 tires

White Industries hubs, 99% sure they are dyad rims, 32H f&r

I had a hell of a time figuring out how to get rid of brake squeal in the
rear. I spend many many hours screwing with toe-in. Then I thought the
brakes were too powerful so I had a friend machine me a custom brake
booster. Then I tred lightly scoring the rim and padsand then I read
that the salmon pads that compass brakes come with sometimes squeal with
certain rims. Tested the rear with el cheapo black post brakes and presto,
no more squeal. I ordered new black pads for the rear but they're not set
up perfect. Might take a little time in the stand to get them 100%.

Full disclosure the local guy that built this wheelset got the dish wrong
and it's a couple MM offset to the non-driveside. There needs to be about
2mm shorter spokes on the driveside to fix the dish (or thread the existing
spokes another 2mm). I never noticed a difference, they stayed true and I
never felt anything so I just got lazy and rode it as-is.

Paint is approaching perfect on this one...maybe some small scratches here
or there but otherwise very very nice. Absolutely no dings or major
issues. Rides like an exotic super car yet has a comfortable riding
position. Plush and zippy.

Comes with everything pictured minus saddle.

$3,200 shipped conus with non-fee payment (paypal f&f, venmo, cashapp,
zelle) Paypal G&S also available but add 3%.

Combo deal for $5,200

There's pictures and a walk-around video for both of these here:

I'll also reply to this message with one image for each. Let me know if I
forgot anything!

Lotta great info here. But, most important of all, WOW HOW BOUT THOSE MINI
MORPHS!?!?!?!? While, sadly, the minis no longer come with the psi gauge
(according to the folks at REI) the pumping efficiency and ease of use is
unparalleled in my road-pumping experience. I got a non-gauged Mini Morph
and also a slightly larger Road Morph G (which has a psi gauge) both of
which fit easily in my Small and Large Fabios Chests as well as my
BagsXBird piccolo small saddlebag. This has been a time of revelation for
me, personally. Thanks!

FWIW, I am a hair under 200lbs, and I really dislike that squishy, low psi
feeling on the pavement. Looking at RH's tire pressure calculator now,
though, and the recommended PSI rangeis 27-34 from soft to firm. That is
surprising to me, and perhaps it's time to re-evaluate/try some new things!

[RBW] PSI On The Fly, maybe a favorite pump lead...

2022-08-30 Thread Alex K
The Road-ish Riv Rubber Radius thread got me thinking about PSI adjustments
while on longer rides. Last month I rode my 56cm 650b Atlantis from San
Francisco to Olema via Mt. Tam and the Bolinas Ridge Fire Trail (which was
about 13 miles and our main gravel section of the day) and back to SF via
Samuel P. Taylor and Fairfax. A glorious 75 mile-ride (80% road/20%gravel)
with 6000 ft of climbing on a perfectly sunny, temperate day. We stopped
at Pantoll Station midway to the top of Mt. Tam and made coffee and had
some decadent pastries and smoked salmon. Everything was
perfect.except for one five mile stretch at the end of the Bolinas
Ridge Fire Trail. A "relentless descent" characterized by obstinate cows,
hard-packed dirt that could only be described as rutted washboard, and lots
of time spent death-gripping my TRP brake levers on my newly mounted 666mm
Crust Towel Rack bars. Once past this stretch, the ride returned to its'
earlier glory and we headed home through idyllic Marin County. A great day
of mixed-terrain riding. In retrospect, though, I can't help but think
that I could have avoided the unpleasantness of that 5-mile descent had I
just thought to lower my PSI before getting on the fire trail. Being that
the first half of the ride and the final 35% of the ride would be on the
road, I started (and finished) my day out at 42 PSI on my 48mm Rene Herse
Switchback Hill Endurance tires. Now I'm kicking myself for not lowering
the pressure significantly. And I figured that this would be a good place
to ask for others' experience with mid-ride PSI changes. Is this something
that folks do regularly or are y'all more inclined to choose a PSI that
will work on mixed terrain? And if frequent PSI changes are the norm, what
pumps are your favorites? Since most (?) Riv-Riders seem to be almost
obsessed with bags as they are with their bikes (I rode with my Fabios
Chest L on this particular day) I figure that pump size is not as important
as pump efficiency.
Thanks for your consideration.
Alex

Re: [RBW] Re: Clem H curious

2022-08-04 Thread Alex K

I have a Clem L and a Clem H. The L has 18 speeds (2X9) and the L has 11
(1X11). The L was a stock build and cost me $1750 from Riv direct, though
I later added an Atlas wheel set with Deore hubs. The H cost me about
$4000 all told, built up with nicer parts, dynolights, and the frame cost
me a little extra as I had to source it from a shop in San Jose (Silva)
which was holding on to the last unbuilt-up 52 H remaining in the world
(that's my story and I'm sticking to it.) My H is super zippy and, at
times, I feel like it is pushing me up the gravel fire roads in the Marin
Headlands. The bike feels alive. My L is reliable and, outfitted with a
Pass and Stow 5-rail rack, can carry 50lb. loads from Costco with very
little wobble. I use it as my city commuter, and I enjoy every minute
riding it, but it is definitely more Cadillac than Porsche. Were I to
switch out the parts and ride my L with my H setup, I might be singing a
different song, but my experience is that the H is much zippier, and the L
a bit more of a workhorse. That's all I got.

$150 Shipped CONUS
I am switching to Endurance Plus casing as I will be using my Clem H for
commuting to and from work, while also maintaining the ability for gravel
jaunts. These tires all have about 300 miles on them, and would like to
sell them all as a bundle.
Thanks!
Alex

[RBW] Re: Best dynamo headlight for road riding

2022-07-31 Thread Alex K
I just installed an IQ-X on my Atlantis, and hoo boy, is it bright, pretty,
and well-made... Did take some extra spacers to work with the Pass and
Stow 3-rail rack, but I really wish I had known how great this light was
before I bought the Edelux for my Clem. From the conversations I've had
with friends who get to bikepack more often than I, the IQ-X is, without a
doubt, the favorite and most beloved.

Re: [RBW] FS: Tunitas 139 Basket Bag

2022-07-31 Thread Alex K
I wish I could say it would work with the half basket, but honestly it's
gonna be best with a full-sizer. You'd have to really cinch it down, as
the bag is already maxing out every square cm of the basket. It's a
surprisingly voluminous bag, when fully maxed out and it gets quite tall
when filled with, say, a large load of laundry. So, yeas, it would work,
but if you filled it fully, I'd reckon it might want to lean and/or sway.

Hope that helps.

Looking for pics of other Atlantis owners' Minimoto set-ups. I currently
have Neo-Retros , but they are getting in the way of my panniers when
mounted to my Pass and Stow rack. Considering the Minimotos and the Paul
Touring setup.
Thanks all!
