[RBW] For SALE: Rambouillet and parts
Hi folks, For sale is 56cm Rivendell Rambouillet. It is beausausaged here and there where normally expected, nevertheless it is in sound and intact condition. No dings or dents, just paint scratches and blemishes here and there. NEVER crashed and dropped it. I'm asking $600 dollars for it. Link to the pics: https://goo.gl/photos/4NVaZES4aN5f26WS8 Also, I'm including the parts that I'd like to sell all at once for $500. If you are interested purchasing both, frame set and the parts, I can sell everything for $1,000. FYI - the attached pictures won't do any justice as I didn't have a chance to clean and polish them. PLEASE email me directly at veloban...@gmail.com. Thanks! [RBW] Albatross bars ???
Hey! A quick question. I'm switching the drop bars on my Homer Hilsen to Albatross. Any advice on length adjustment on stem? Currently I have 90mm stem. My inference based on observations would dictate to get 110mm, a 20mm longer to retain handling comfort. Am I right? A little help here, please. Thanks! I've always felt that Surly could never have even existed had it not been for Rivendell. When they launched, the concept of a company focusing on building skinny-tubed, steel bikes with 1 headsets, provisions for racks, and room for fat tires and fenders was pretty out there to most mainstream consumers. Yet, for all this, they've thrived. And, partly, on the tails of bikes like the Long Haul Trucker which was a direct copy of the All Rounder. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it makes it more ironic that they produced this patch so shortly after Riv quoined and started marketing the whole Un-Racer thing. What I find interesting though, is how two companies can be so eerlily *similar* - building no-nonsense bikes that work, are repairable, aren't going to go out of style, and don't require the newest ever-changing components - yet have such *different* marketplace personas. Even though BOTH companies are actually developing thought-provoking and useful products (together, arguably changing the face of modern bike design more than all other companies combined), ONE of those companies is often considered retro-grouchy while the other is considered hip. Clearly it pays to be offensive on some level, depending on who your market is. I just like anything that reminds people not to take themselves too seriously. ;-) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. I will use everybody not in the literal sense): Everybody moans the loss of a bike they didn't buy when it was availabe. The SB was always the slowest seller of all time, which in itself isn't the end of the world, but what it means for us is---it was a cash flow killer. We pay fully for 100 of them about two months before they arrive. Then it takes a year and a half or two years to sell them. One thing that seems to happen is--when something's readily available, it's meh...and when it's gone, the heart grows fonder genuinely--and maybe people who would have been buyers when the bike was around have just learned about it and think hey I'd like that. But there is a small tendency to overenthuse about what can't be had. I do it myself with other things in my life. *Dang, they quit making that __ I've hemmed and hawed about and admired for years, but never wanted enough to buy, but now that I can't buy it, shoot!*I don't mean that's rampant here, and I DO like that the bikes are so well-liked. Me too. I sold my QB when I needed money, figured I could always get a SO, and now they're gone and I want one more than ever. So---I'm not just an observer of this phenomenon, but a participant! If we could pre-sell 30 of them. Paid two-months before they arrive (that's when our payment is due), I'd stick my neck out and order 100. This time they'd be slightly different, and the danger of this hypothetical scenario is that it would open a debate about what's the difference between the new and old, which is preferable, then a vote, and it all gets weird and half the people who expressed willingness to get a new one now feel dis-listened to and bummed because it didn't go that way. So...i'd be innerested only if I had free secret rein to tweak it this way and that, still resulting in a killer one-speed, but not a clone of the SO, which was a clone of the QB. It might be any color, any name, any kind of break, any anything. I totally get that ordering semi-blind isn't easy to do. The unblind part of the semi is: Track or horizontal dropouts angled to allow pad contact over a wide range of chainlengths, like QB/SO. Two bottle mounts, rackable. good clearance. Basically Sam-like with diff dropouts. Probably sidepulls but could be cantis. A perfectly good color, a good name, a nice badge, a really great singler. Serious agreers will PM cyclofiend (Jim! So sorryplease forgive me...but these months I have so many kaleidiscopes in my head that I can't have another one), and if the list reaches 30 (meaning you'll have $1200 by Dec 2014 for the frame/fork/headset, and the money won't evaporate in a divorce or unforseeable crisis), then we'll get some good frames. I have a full plate and I know it seems so bad to say I can't answer questions about this, but for the next few months I probably can't. You can try, and I'll try, but I'm at my physicalemotional limit, and ... can't promise. If you send a postcard, I'll respond with a postcard. Is this all too much? Probably. Sorry again. If nothing happens now, I think the bike will happen again later, but it may be an extra year or two. I know there are lots of options out there. I'm not trying to make this a difficult mystery bike. Re: [RBW] Re: Any new Riv roadish bike on the horizon?
Hi Jim! With beautifully lugged 2-3k$ frame with superfat tires riding in the snow on Minneapolis/St. Paul streets and getting it infested with rust. No thanks, man! In my opinion those fat tires are overrated, slow and compromises the frame's integrity and geometry making it uncomfortable. The Q factor is wide, way too wide. I had a Pugsley, rode it for an hour and felt like I was giving a birth sold it next day! On technical side, with Riv's current bottom bracket lugs it's not feasible to make wider seat/chain stays to make more clearance for those wide tires. TIG is is only a way to go, which in my opinion I highly doubt Riv will do it. On Fri, Dec 14, 2012 at 9:54 AM, Eric Platt epericmpl...@gmail.com wrote: Good idea, Jim. Another all-rounder or touring bike would cannibalize from Hilsen, Atlantis, Hillborne, Hunq, and Bomba sales, since those bikes more than cover that category. Sure, the new thing could have 26 wheels or different tubing, but would that really be different enough to make sales that weren't already gonna happen? Maybe, maybe not. As long as we're speculating wildly, I'd like to see a true departure from what already exists. My vote is for an ostentatious lugged fat bike. For the uninitiated, a fat bike typically takes 26x4.0 tires on 50-100 mm wide rims, and the Surly Pugsley is the archetype for the genre. There are getting to be lots of tires for these, and even silver foil hat rims.
