[RBW] Re: DMV Area Rivendell Riders

2021-10-16 Thread Chris M
MRB--

I think that was me on the burgundy custom on 5th! That was my first ride
on it, so I haven't taken photos yet. I'm in Takoma Park, too! Seems like a
Rivendell-ish sort of town.

A meetup sounds fun!

[RBW] Re: Trainers?

2020-03-18 Thread Chris M
I just bought a set of rollers this week for the very same reason. The
learning curve was short-- took about 15 minutes from zero to being
(mostly) comfortable.

There was more resistance than I was expecting, so it's not a bad workout
at all. A friend who used to race helped me with adjusting them and sent
links to good cycling YouTube videos. I'm going to post my laptop on a
plant stand, watch the videos (mostly to keep my eyes from wandering-- the
wobbles come fast if you stray!), and listen to my favorite radio shows.

They have a nice aural feedback that tells you how round (or not round)
your pedal stroke is. Looking forward to coming out of this ordeal
stronger, more stable, and more efficient!

Good luck, and stay safe.

[RBW] Re: Experiences with Atlantis

2020-01-07 Thread Chris M

My greatest regret is selling my pointy-lugged, made-in-Japan Atlantis. The
Atlantis was forgiving of my inexperience and 2nd-rate packing job on my
first multi-day tour in Wyoming back in 2008. I couldn't have had more fun
or been more comfortable (though I've adjusted my saddle angle since then).

It made for a nice, zippy(ish) around-town bike unloaded and with lighter
wheels, too. If you can find an old short-stayed Atlantis, I can't
recommend it enough! But buy it fast, because I'm also looking for one...
