For the S24O, I have found a number of excellent recipes at Outdoor Eats
<https://outdooreats.com/>. Specifically, for the vegetarians in the room,
the warm sundried tomato pasta salad is great. One pot. Here's a link to
that recipe

[RBW] FS - Rivendell Road 60cm

2024-03-04 Thread Huston
Greetings,

For your consideration is a 60cm Rivendell road frameset. Based on the
serial number and some markings on the steer tube, I believe (emphasis)
this is a 1999 Match-built “Road Standard.” For additional information on
Match frames, please refer to Rivendell Reader #15. Also, Rivendell
catalog #3 has a geo chart for Road Standards. Thanks to Reed et al. for
hosting all of this information.

Stamped size is 60. Additional frame details are as follows:

Seat tube (center-to-top): 60cm
Seat tube (center-to-center): 57cm
Top tube (center-to-center): ~58.5cm
Rear spacing: 130mm
Top tube: sloping ~1 degree

The frame is built for 700c wheels and does clear 700 x 32s, but that
doesn't leave much room under the brake bridge.

This frameset looks quite good considering its age. There are blemishes to
the Joe Bell paint on the fork legs (from p-clamps) and on the seat tube
(from a clamp-on front derailleur). Dropouts and other contact points show
typical signs of use. Little nicks and chips here and there, but nothing
concerning to report. Bottom bracket shell looks great.

If you're wondering why I'm selling this frameset, the answer is simple:
it's too big for me. For reference, I have comfortably ridden a 58 Toyo
Atlantis and a 54 Hunq.

Pictures are available here
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1V9WhE1E8EdSqlYyV1a21HIYfHwnhC_ZZ?usp=sharing>.

Price: $1,550.00 plus shipping and insurance to CONUS via UPS. If you
want to run numbers, the frame box is 44 x 26 x 8.

Thanks for looking and please send a message with any questions.

have the dust caps somewhere and will include them. Light markings. The
drive side extractor threads are not the best, but I gently worked them

[RBW] Re: PSA: Classic TA Zephyr Triple Touring Crankset 172.5 - eBay auction

2023-12-08 Thread Huston
The TA Zephyr is beautiful crank, although some might gripe about the
hidden fifth bolt. The 56mm BCD drillings will allow you to run a 20 or 22
tooth inner ring. TA, Sugino, Suntour, and a few others made those tiny
rings. If you find a Zephyr, make sure to get the correct bottom bracket:
the Zephyr was produced in different flavors. Peter White Cycles will sell
you the correct bottom bracket.

I know there is a new batch on the way but thought I’d see if there is
anything on the market now. Would consider frame or complete. I also have a
neat black sheep klunker I would use as a barter if interested. Located in
Michigan.

That new green does look pretty amazing tho…

[RBW] FS - Nitto Rivendell Big Front Rack (34f) - New

2023-05-25 Thread Huston
Greetings,

For your consideration: a new Nitto 34f rack (a/k/a Rivendell Big Front
Rack). A beautiful yet sturdy rack. I purchased this one rack with the
intention of replacing two racks (a Nitto 32f and a Tubus Ergo) on an
Atlantis; however, between a previously installed front fender and light, I
opted to stay with the two rack setup.

Upon the closet of inspections, you might find some signs of installation
and removal, but this rack is new. Includes the p-clamps, bolts, and
"instructions" that came with the rack. Riv has a nice installation
video. Pics are available here
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1PqPxIqipxxMpZr3VSy4fGIieCtFhThtb?usp=share_link>
.

Price is $175.00. Included in that price is $20 for shipping. If shipping
exceeds $20, then the price is $175 plus shipping in excess of $20.

Thanks for your consideration.

[RBW] FS - 1995 Rivendell Road Frameset - 56cm - Riv Blue

2023-01-15 Thread Huston
Greetings,

For your consideration is a 56cm 1995 Rivendell Road frameset. I recently
posted this frameset as part of a “want to trade” listing, but that was
proving to be too complicated; hence, this straight up “for sale” listing.

The frame measurements are as follows: seat tube 56cm c-t-c; top tube 57cm
c-t-c. Takes 700c wheels and 27.2mm seat post; rear spacing is 130mm. The
pictured headset is not included but can be made available. For more
details on the Road, please see Riv Reader #2, which Reed has kindly made
available here <http://notfine.com/rivendell/RR02.pdf>.

Photos are available here
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1--29ju2FtjhuoSZ1GVn6kfuTzrPyH6jt?usp=share_link>.

As for condition, there is definite beausage (i.e, plenty of paint
blemishes). Chain stays and bottom bracket shell are the worst. But, the
frame is solid: no dents or issues to mention, and it rides well. Nothing
is hidden in the pictures. The weather and lighting have been difficult
here lately. The “Riv blue” is best exemplified by the pictures taken on
the black table.

I am selling this frame for one simple reason: it is too small for me.
Plus, I really need to reduce the fleet to n-1.

$850 plus shipping. Local pickup is welcome.

Thanks for looking.

[RBW] FS - Nitto Stems & Bars, Paul Levers, RuthWorks Bag, Sugino Crank, Shimano 8 Speed Cassette, Suntour FD, Sella San Marco Saddle

2023-01-09 Thread Huston

Greetings,

For your consideration are some components and accessories. I believe that
almost all of these items have been on a Riv, and quite a few of them were
purchased directly from Riv. With that disclaimer, here’s the list:

1. Nitto Technomic Deluxe (NTC-DX-190) stem. 10cm in length with 26.0mm
clamp. This is my favorite Nitto stem with a quill length between the
Pearl (150mm) and the Tallux (225mm). Used with light insertion marks.
There is some light corrosion on the bolt heads that was difficult to
capture in the pictures. $50 shipped.

2. Nitto Pearl stem. 10cm in length with 26.0mm clamp. Light insertion
marks but super clean. $60 shipped.

3. Ruthworks Audax saddlebag in waxed canvas. Approximate dimensions are
10" by 6" by 6" with about a 6L volume (excluding side pockets). You can
see the outlines of a few patches that I previously had sewn onto the bag.
Otherwise, like new. $150 plus shipping.

4. Suntour Superbe Pro front derailleur. Clamp-on (26.8mm). Vintage but
very clean. $50 shipped.

5. Shimano CS-M737 cassette. 8 speed with 11-30 range. This is the "I"
version, which I believe coincides with a stiffer spider. Low mileage.
$40 shipped.

6. Sugino XD2-701D double crankset. 170mm arms with 50/34 tooth rings. 50
tooth ring is ramped and pinned. Compatible with Shimano 9/10 speed.
Excellent, almost new condition. $115 shipped.

7. Shimano UN55 bottom bracket. 68 x 107mm. Excellent. Just a few hundred
miles. The bottom bracket that you want that is no longer in production.
$25 shipped.

8. Paul cross levers. Pair (left and right). Silver with the now
discontinued 26.0mm clamp diameter. Open box. Levers have been handled
but are otherwise new. $110 shipped.

9. Selle San Marco Rolls Saddle - Titanium Le Classiche. This is a new,
modern saddle (looks like a 2021 date stamp). Saddle has been installed
but not ridden; so, it remains in "like new" condition. $110 shipped.

10. Nitto Noodle handlebars. 420mm width with 26.0mm stem clamp diameter.
Excellent condition. $40 plus shipping.

Will ship to CONUS only via my pick of USPS or UPS. Pictures are available
here
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1PqPxIqipxxMpZr3VSy4fGIieCtFhThtb?usp=share_link>.

Please send a PM if you are interested. I will update the list as items
sell.

Thanks for your interest.

[RBW] Re: Bags like the Grabsack?

2023-01-09 Thread Huston
Mike,

I've always admired the bags from Tom Bihn <https://www.tombihn.com/>.
Never had one and not a bike specific maker; but, there are lots of options
in the crossbody and shoulder bag section.

[RBW] Re: Are Paul brakes worth the money?

2023-01-05 Thread Huston
I was recently reminded of this thread when completing an overhaul of my
Paul touring cantis. After years of four-season commuting, the arms and
spring adjuster nuts still look great; however, the springs (corrosion) and
one o-ring (split) needed to be replaced. Plus, it was time for some fresh
straddle cables. All of these tiny bits were readily available, both
directly from Paul and from retailers. Furthermore, upon submission of a
question via the Paul website, I received a prompt response from the man
himself. IMO, these are just a couple of more reasons why these brakes are
indeed "worth the money."

[RBW] "WTT" - Rivendell Road 56cm - Bay Area

2022-12-23 Thread Huston

Greetings,

As the title suggests, I am looking to “trade” [details below] a lovely
56cm 1995 Rivendell road. The frame measurements are as follows: seat tube
56cm c-t-t; top tube 57cm c-t-c. For more details on the Road, please see
Riv Reader #2, which Reed has kindly made available here
<http://notfine.com/rivendell/RR02.pdf>. Build list is as follows:

   - Wheels - Shimano 600 Tri-Color 32 hole laced to Ritchey Vantage Comp
   Roads
   - Tires - Panaracer Pasela 700 x 28
   - Headset - Shimano 600
   - Stem - Nitto Pearl (10cm)
   - Handlebars - Nitto Noodle 44
   - Brake levers - Dia Compe
   - Seatpost - Shimano 600
   - Front Derailleur - Suntour Superbe Pro
   - Bottom Bracket - Shimano UN55
   - Crankset - Sugino XD2-701D (50-34 x 170mm)
   - Pedals - Shimano 600
   - Rear Derailleur - Shimano Ultegra Tri Color (RD-6401)
   - Cassette - Shimano
   - Shifters - Shimano 600 7 speed

Saddle and Cateye bits are not included. Photos are available here
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1--29ju2FtjhuoSZ1GVn6kfuTzrPyH6jt?usp=share_link>.

Sorry for the poor quality of the pics. We are in the middle of this bomb
cyclone, and it's dark and -3 outside.

The grey Shimano components look really good on the Riv blue. If I had to
guess, I would say that the wheelset is original to the bike. I think it
had a mix of Suntour Superbe and Shimano 600 when it came to me. For good
measure, the Suntour front derailleur remains. As for condition, there is
definite beausage (i.e, plenty of paint blemishes). Drive side chain stay
and bottom bracket shell are the worst. But, the frame is solid: no dents
or issues to mention.

Letting go of this bike is difficult. The Riv blue, lugs, and headbadge
are beautiful. You might ask, "Why sell?" The answer: the bike does fit
me or my current riding style/needs very well.

Now, here's why the title mentions Bay area trade. I have identified a
specific bike for which I will trade. It is currently for sale in the Bay
area. I have spoken with the seller, and he is knowledgeable and
reputable; however, he wants to deal in person and is unwilling to
facilitate shipping. So, I need some boots on the ground to make this
happen. If you are interested in this quest, please send a PM. I can
identify the bike; you can then buy it with your funds (and negotiating
power) and ship it to me. Once the wheels are in motion, I can get the Riv
boxed and ready to go. I don't want to identify the bike (which is not a
Riv) in question in this post for a number of reasons. Let's just say that
the price is less than $1,500 and that there should be room for negotiation
if you are a good haggler.

Thanks for your interest. I know this is an unusual WTT ad, but I'm
guessing that there's someone who won't mind a little legwork in exchange
for an old school Riv.

[RBW] FS: Nitto 33R Rear Rack, Pitlock Skewer Set

2022-08-22 Thread Huston
Greetings,

Adding to today's robust FS threads. I'm cleaning out the shop in an
effort to make space for a new project:

1. *Nitto 33R "Big" Rear Rack* - Very good condition. Luggage has worn the
Nitto decals a bit, but nickel-plated CroMo looks great. Per Riv, this
rack is designed for frames over 54cm but will work with 700c, 650B, and
27.5" wheels. Please note that rods/struts have been cut: you may need a
longer pair depending on your setup. $165 shipped to CONUS.

2. *Pitlock Skewer Set* - Pitlock front and rear wheel skewer set. The
front skewer is 120mm (for 100mm hubs), and the rear skewer is 155mm (for
130/135mm hubs). Includes two keys. Excellent condition. $45 shipped to
CONUS.

That's all for now. Here's a link to photos
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kAYsWq8NCi6w0Vqyt1yZRTkHJNvleXwI?usp=sharing>.

Please send a PM if you are interested. I will update the list as items
sell.

Thanks,

[RBW] FS 56 Toyo Atlantis and a few other items

2022-08-06 Thread Andrew Huston
Preparing to unload a few bikes.

56 Atlantis
I bought this bike and it has basically sat as I have far too many bikes. I
am the second owner and it is in really nice shape for its age. A few minor
cosmetic blames but again, nothing nuts. Build is a nice mix of Phil
hubs/bb, King headset, and Paul cantis.
Asking $2200 plus shipping (no saddle or pedals)

Other items include:
Moustache bars and nitto stem
Nitto Bullmoose bars
Medium Black Sheep Klunker SS complete
Crust Wombat frame/Cliffhanger ss wheel set/crank, all new (rolling
chassis-ish)
We can discuss interest in these items off list.

I much prefer to text or have a call to discuss so please reach out that
way if you are able. 810-8four1-four39six

Andrew

[RBW] WTT - Calling in Sick - Issues 4 & 5 (Clem L Issue)

2022-03-28 Thread Huston
Greetings,

I have enjoyed reading these two issues of *Calling in Sick*, but they are
ready for a new home. Issue 5 (which features the Clem L) is in great
shape; Issue 4 somehow met a little rain during USPS delivery and has some
slight warping. Lots of good Riv content in these magazines. Pic is here
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-BlAhSx8XRmopt5lLsFSyOvM7QMEVElI?usp=sharing>
.

I don't need any cash for these, but it would be great to swap them for
something in the Riv vein. Who has an extra lug bandana? Please send a PM
if you're interested.

[RBW] Re: FS - Bags: Sackville TrunkSack & Makeshifter Outback Saddlebag

2022-03-22 Thread Huston
Update:

1. Rivendell Sackville TrunkSack - Small, olive. I bought this bag from a
fellow list-member with the intention to change a Wald/bag setup for the
smaller TrunkSack, but I've decided to stick with the basket bag. $80
(shipping included to lower 48).

2. Makeshifter Outback Saddlebag. It's hard to let this go, but this bag
has simply not been used enough. It's beautiful. Includes Voile straps
and carrying strap. I think the Outbacks have been retired. Tan canvas
with olive webbing and pink interior. You won't lose anything in this
bag. *SOLD.*

Re: [RBW] chainring installation

2022-02-21 Thread Huston
For those who have installed TA rings on a 5 bolt spider, where do you
orient the pin relative to the crank arm? In this case (TA crank with TA
rings), one chainring bolt is "hidden" behind the arm. I figured the pin
would go behind the arm as well, but that's not an option. So, if the arm
is at 6:00, the pin can be at 4:48 or 7:12 but not 6:00. Of course, there
are 3 other options (including high noon). Any guidance would be
appreciated.

Thanks,
Huston

J Imler, a resounding nod to the Clem.
I’m hoping the joe takes a 2.25 tire. If not that may be the deal breaker.

[RBW] FS - Nitto S-Racks - Left & Right - Silver

2021-10-13 Thread Huston
For your consideration is a like new set (left and right) of Nitto S-Racks
in dull/silver. These racks are the result of a Blue Lug x Nitto
collaboration and are designed to work with 26", 650b, and 700c. Please
note that the racks are mounted on both sides of the fork legs (like a
Tubus duo), so you'll need the appropriate bosses. These racks were for a
new build. Best laid plans

The racks have been fitted/installed, so there are some super fine marks
here and there; but, the racks are otherwise like new. All original
hardware included. Pictures are available here
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/14AhIwm8y2zKYsrE6ZAgBPoHuUlmJEnam?usp=sharing>.

$190.00 plus shipping. Please send a PM if you are interested.

Thanks,
Huston

[RBW] WTB Tosco bars/faceplate stem

2021-09-24 Thread Andrew Huston
Wondering if anyone has a set they are not enamored with. Prefer the 65cm
version with 31.8 clamp. Also would like to find a 4 bolt faceplate stem to
go with.

Also would consider a billie bar
Thanks!

[RBW] Re: Subtle, insidious seatpost slippage on my Clem H driving me crazy

2021-09-10 Thread Andrew Huston
My Clem H had the same issue. I called Riv and Grant told me to crank on
the bolt until it doesn’t slip. He said the bolt or nut would break

offered the knurling option.

So yet again I was not up to snuff with regards to my eBay bidding. I was
hesitant to go much above $2k and it turns out I lost by about $50. As luck
would have it, I managed to snag a 52 frame in blue. This is definitely not
my color choice but figured I may as well get one while I can. I very well

I do think $2050 was about max value for the grilver even with nice parts.

Re: [RBW] Clem L frames live 3et 8/12/21

2021-08-12 Thread Andrew Huston
I immediately called Riv in shock. I was to the second and I just can't
believe the cart doesn't hold an item for 20 seconds to finalize. I also
called some dealers and was told that no dealer has any. I would love to be
proved wrong. The second issue is it seems dealers only will sell if you do
a build thru them. Since I already have a ton of parts i've bought, it
wouldn't make financial sense.

[RBW] FFS - Greenfield Kickstand

2021-04-25 Thread Huston
Free for Shipping. Greenfield kickstand (KS2-305). The kickstand and foot
are in like new condition. I did cut the kickstand for a 57cm frame
running 650b x 42mm tires, so it probably won't work on a larger bike.
Also includes the short bolt (if your frame has a kickstand plate like most
modern Rivs). Here's a link to pic
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hJ3otKibE_DngfWWQM9AZM7-rBfW8Xy3?usp=sharing>.

Should fit in a Priority Mail envelope ($8.55). Send me an email/message
if you can put this to good use.

Thanks,
Huston
Lexington, KY

2021-03-13 Thread Huston

Greetings. For your consideration is a 57cm Soma San Marcos (v2) 650b in
Tiburon Blue. As you are probably aware, the San Marcos was designed by
Grant Petersen and has Riv lugs and design details. Excellent condition.
A few chips: it’s a used bike. No concerns to mention. Ready to ride.
This 57cm was the largest San Marcos built around 650b. Here are the build
details:

Stem: Nitto Technomic Deluxe (80mm)

Brake Levers: Shimano BL-R400

Shifters: Silver 2 bar end

Tape: Newbaum’s

Grips: Oury V2 in gum [from Blue Lug]

Headset: Tange Levin Alloy

Brakes: Tektro R559 [Rivendell’s “Silver” brand]

Bottom Bracket: Shimano UN55 [I’m 95% sure on this one]

Crankset: Sugino XD2 172.5mm with 48/24 rings [48t ring is new]

Front Derailleur: Shimano FD-CX70 [bottom pull]

Rear Derailleur: Shimano XT RD-M772 9s Shadow (GS Medium cage)

Cassette: Shimano HG400 9 Speed MTB Cassette (12-36)

Seatpost: Nitto S65 Crystal Fellow

Chain: KMC [new]

Front Hub: Shimano 105 (5800)

Rear Hub: Shimano 105 (5800)

Rims: 32 hole Velocity Dyad 650b

Tires: Grand Bois Hêtres

Kickstand: Greenfield

Wheels were built by Rich Lesnick. Photos are available here
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hzYdHWQMzjK4IGuG2yKRoghA_XPo9vyZ?usp=sharing>.

Please note that *saddle is not included*. Asking price is *$1,400.00 plus
any shipping costs*. Local pickup is more than welcome and greatly
preferred.

Any questions, please send an email.

Thanks for your interest.
