Tim, you should be good to go. The RH 44s generally run small. I've fit

[RBW] ISO/WTT - 54cm Nitto Noodle

2023-01-21 Thread J C
Greetings all!

I missed out on the wider noodle bars (my preferred shape) when they were
available and tried to fill their place with the RM-013 and Salsa
Cowchipper.

I quickly realized they werent for me so they have been sitting for some
time.

Maybe someone has a 54cm Noodle they are willing to trade?

I have for trade:

46cm Nitto Noodle - Ridden but in good shape, removed all bar tape residue,
standard scratches on the sleeve/clamp. Love this shape but need more width.

52cm Nitto RM-013 - New, mounted but never ridden

52cm Salsa Cowchipper - New, mounted but never ridden

660mm Nitto Wavie Bar - New, mounted but never ridden. Opted for the Nitto
Juan Martin bar instead.

If anyone is interested I can provide photos etc.

Much appreciated,

James in Santa Barbara, CA

Re: [RBW] Re: Exploration: Make your own pump peg

2023-01-21 Thread J C
I like the QR idea.

However, on my 2020 Appaloosa the dropout design prevents a shimano QR
lever from easily closing at an angle other than forward or backward,
approximately level to the ground.

Curious if a similar design is used on other newish models?

I read Will's post about how to make your own pump peg on the Blug a
 long while back:

 https://rivbike.tumblr.com/post/185595499869/how-to-make-your-own-pump-pegs

You take a p-clamp, some spacers and modify a Nitto strut and you've
got a pump peg somewhere you might not have had one before. Will likes to
put his in the rear triangle and you'll notice them mounted this way on a
 lot of his bikes.

 [image: tumblr_inline_pt3zzjpbXk1qdvnvk_500.jpg]
 [image: tumblr_inline_pt401jwzC21qdvnvk_500.jpg]

This is great, I love it, cool hack! But I've always wanted for a
version that doesn't require tracking down and destroying a Nitto strut.
Riv HQ is probably awash in Nitto struts and they have em poking out of
 the
coffee cans on everyone's desk all over the place. But not so for me,
 Nitto
struts are precious few in my shed.

I think I came up with the right shape and this weekend I picked up an
electrical ring terminal in the 10-12 size, yellow sleeve.

[image: Screen Shot 2023-01-17 at 9.56.39 PM.png][image: Screen Shot
 2023-01-17 at 9.56.44 PM.png]

Holding the ring end with one pair of pliers you can easily remove the
yellow sleeve with a second pair of pliers. A pack of 15 is $4.50. If your
local hardware store has a bulk/loose hardware section you can get one for
around 55¢ (at least I did).

Paired with a 3/8" insulated cable clamp (2 for $2.20), a few serrated
brake washers, an M5 bolt and a nylock nut I had a fashioned a pump peg.
Didn't have to cut or shape any metal or destroy any high-end Japanese
 rack
 struts.

I have yet to SUPER TEST this out but wanted to share all the same.

[RBW] WTB - FFH or Complete for 82cm PBH

2021-04-12 Thread J C
Good morning!

After riding a Miyata tourer and Specialized Rockhopper with Rivendell
inspired modifications over the past few years, I am looking for a
Rivendell to call my own.

My riding consists primarily of commuting and day rides on road and light
trails here in Santa Barbara, CA and the surrounding areas.

As the title says, a complete bike or frame could work as I've already
acquired quite a few parts in the process of converting my current bikes.

Feel free to reply on or off list, thanks!!

[RBW] WTB VO Constructeur Front Rack or similar for 61cm Bleriot

2021-03-01 Thread J C
I'm interested in using the VO Constructeur Front Rack to hold a basket or
bag on a recently built up 61 cm Bleriot.

Can anyone share their experience using this rack? It seems pretty straight
forward as far as racks go.

I believe I'd need the version that has the flat and adjustable plate at
the fork crown mount and would prefer the bottom tangs to be uncut so I can
mess with placement.

Feel free to message off list if you have one you are willing to part with
or if you have something similar that may work.

Thanks!

[RBW] WTB front rack... Nitto, Pass and Stow, etc

2015-01-20 Thread J C
Took advantage of the end of the year coupon and was able to pick up a 62
Hillborne a few weeks ago. I have it pretty dialed in so far but i'm in
need of front rack. I usually carry a fair amount of junk in a basket up
front so the bike feels a bit naked at the moment and my saddlebag is
stuffed. I prefer the look of a mark's rack or pass and stow up front but
would consider a nitto big front rack or something similar. anybody have
something to get rid of?

thanks in advance,

[RBW] WTB Rivendell in the 60- 62cm range

2014-12-28 Thread J C
Hey there bunch. Hope you all are having a nice holiday season. I've been
saving my ducats and am now officially in the market for my first
Rivendell. I've ridden a 62 cm Sam on road and trails and it felt great so
thats my starting point.

60 or 62 Sam would be great although I wouldn't mind the increased
clearance of a 61 Atlantis, or the classic stylings of a 63 Homer.

If you're looking to sell a frame or complete along those lines let me know
on here or through PM.

Im located in Santa Barbara, CA so SoCal or Bay Area would be ideal for
test rides and pickup. Shipping wouldn't be much of problem either.

Okay, thats all. thanks!

I had a glimpse of the frame. It has a lug, and my, what a lug it is. For

something they wanted to do and are doing.

[RBW] SUZUE Bearing Replacement

2010-06-25 Thread J C
These bearings are super easy to service.

We use to use two or three old spokes and a solid axel to drive out the
bearings. You can make a press with some threaded stock and a couple of
washers, sockets and bolts.Just make sure you are pressing on the outer
race when you install them.

You can also use a block or wood and carefully press them back into the hub
shell with c clamps or careful use of a hammer.

[RBW] paul's racer brakes vs cantis questions

2010-05-13 Thread J C
Hello hip listers,

Do any of you use the Paul's racer or the racer m(edium) brakes? How would
you compare them to the neo retros? Do you know if the racer m brake works
if the centerpull is a bit skewed to one side or another- eg is the spring
tension on the brakes adjustable on both sides? They look like it in the
photos.

Do you have any brake squeal issues using the racers? Have you seen any
chain stay mounted versions- are they just glorified u brakes? Would you
buy them again? Are you using them on 700c wheels?

Thanks for the help

Studies show that fish live longer when you don't eat them.

[RBW] TOPIC: Extending steerer tube possible

2009-10-01 Thread J C
Bridgestone recalled a bunch of the XO forks- make sure the one you have
isn't one of the "defective" ones before doing anything to the fork you just
bought. I can't recall how to identify the new vs recalled fork is off
hand- maybe someone else can. But it seems the problem was in the crown.

2009-08-28 Thread J C
Hello,

I am trying to sell my wife's riv road- It has about 200 miles, campy record
brakes, t/a triple crank, chorus elsewhere, cris king HS Mavic Open Pro
wheel set. It is a Joe Bell painted bike in "split pea" and tusk.

Do you king friend know what sort of value I should put on it to list it on

Thanks,
