Re: [RBW] Re: Rivendell gofast!
Patrick, Have you looked into setting up one of your 559/571 bikes with tubular tires similar to how you have the Ram set up? That could be a way to get the plush construction you want out of a mythic 28mm 571 ERD tire. Continental makes the Sprinter 250 in a 650c analog size and it has a cotton casing, veloflex also has a model. Both are sometimes referred to as a 26x1 tubular. There must be others. Although that is going down in size it might be improving in ride quality (a change of focus from biggest tire to best. You should be able to pick up 650c sized track tubulars for little money and your method of riding the Ram with Stan's has worked well. We're enjoying snowshoeing now, where lighter and wider is also better. Snowshoeing up hill produces the same thigh burn as peddling up hill, but not nearly as much face burn on the downhill. Anyway, I took it out for an hour of hills and wind in northern RR -- wind in my face as I stood on the longish hills. And of course it fits and handles exquisitely. I think I'll keep it like it is. -- Resumes, LinkedIn profiles, bios, and letters that get interviews. By-the-hour resume and LinkedIn coaching. [RBW] Stolen bike update.
Hey gang, I bought a road standard from another list member in 2008. It was stolen from my garage in 2011. This week it appeared and was sold on Ebay. I have, since Tuesday, spent countless hours on the phone with ebay (empty promises and no help), SFPD, and San Jose Police in order to go through the proper channels and get my bike back (now a frame only) Some people have had luck in buying back their old items - I am not interested in that solution. The seller (in San Jose) has many suspicious listings (frames and parts in various sizes, few details) but I don't want to post that information here because what looks like a bicycle chop shop seller could also be someone who isn't intentionally selling stolen good and might just be flipping Craigslist bikes for extra cash. If anyone here happened to buy a 54cm road standard frame in blue on 7/17, I just ask that you wait a little bit and not pay for the frame while I work with SFPD to retrieve it. Does anyone have helpful tips to give me a better chance of success? Thanks Jason SF,CA -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] FT 56cm Trek and RB-1
I have two bike frames that are slightly taller than I want to ride right now. A blue Trek 510 that swallows up 700x35c tires with ease and a 1993 red RB-1 with the sloping crown fork. Both are 56cm models. The frames have plenty of cosmetic beausage but are in excellent condition otherwise. I would love to trade one, or both frames for something 54cm with 700c wheel size. A single speed that can take fat rubber and fenders maybe? (to tide me over until I find 54cm Quickbeam or custombeam) Email offlist with offers Thanks. Re: [RBW] Re: Tires in the Goldilocks zone (was Grant on tires)
I don't think they will stock the GR is a way to have a better tire. From a retail perspective it makes sense to try new things, rotate stock, and offer additional products to compliment existing ones. Rivendell has an existing business relationship with Soma. To my knowledge RBW has never sold Gran Bois or Compass tires but they have sold Pari Motos and Soma 650b, in addition to their own 650bx33mm tires. There is precedence to them stocking a road tire in 650b. It ill be interesting to see what effect having a mostly roads tire with the same general dimensions and the GB Hetre will have on the tire preferences of their customers. It has been my observation that there are a few big reservations to trying more supple tires (this is patterned on the assumption that RBW customers {in total, not just the subset that read this group} hold a preference toward strong tires). My assertion is that the strong GR tire could nudge new people into trying a very supply tire - one that they may very well like. It may also move people in the direction of more robust tires options if they currently prefer the other end of the spectrum. I would imagine that having a second wheelset equipped with the new Soma GR strong version would be keen for a bike equipped with Hetres (or Compass Babyshoe Pass) and fenders. *I don't mean to infer that supple tires are not strong, some brands are in fact very well constructed and last for many miles. I opted for the word strong because it allowed for a positive description of tires with a reinforced sidewall, all black construction, and thick tread with puncture prevention considerations. Re: [RBW] Re: Grant's Overseas Trip - What do you want?
I was just thinking about the fact that Rivendell has a very successful track record with regard to new ideas and new products. I trust whatever they decide to bring in. 85-90% of the things Rivendell stocks don't fit into my lifestyle or bikestyle but I can recommend them without reservation. What do I want to see? A new agreement with Toyo for Japanese built frames.
