[RBW] Re: Updates on, and further questions regarding the Riv Road Standard 1995

2022-01-29 Thread Saturday Mark
Adrianna,
I would submit that this bike is kinda small for you. Most gals 5'5" are
more of a traditional size 51/52, and would have a longer top tube. The
closest recent Riv would be the Rambouillet . Check out sizing specs etc on
it, the 50 and 52 were the 26" wheel also. Grant would have told you to be
on a 54.

Possibly you could make it fit, but .something that fits most gals like
this would end up with saddle pretty high relative to bars. Maybe good for
road, but not so mush on gravel/dirt.

I think this is a gorgeous frameset and "worth" the money. To get something
of this caliber made today would be pushing 3K.

I would bet on the 125mm spacing being a typo, as 125mm was out of style
for a long time before that.

my .02 $

[RBW] Re: 26.8mm seat post diameter??

2021-10-19 Thread Saturday Mark
26.8 was just as common as 27.2 back in the 70's and 80's, prior to the now
more . Riv has done 26.8 on a bunch of the step throughs since way back
when.

With that said, 26.8 is probably in short supply right now due to pandemic,
but...

Nitto makes in crystal fellow and s83
Thomson makes 26.8
Kalloy Uno as well as their Crystal Fellow copy
+ a bunch of private label (Dimension, Sunlite, Origin8... etc)

[RBW] Re: Question for people who have ridden Compass/Rene Hearse tires

2021-06-13 Thread Saturday Mark
Thats a pretty fat tire for a Dyad. I would submit that your usage case is
probably different than a lot here, so this is a bunch of speculating.

I assume you aren't running tubeless?
That narrow of a rim usually calls for higher tire pressure to prevent tire
from rolling off.
The answer: (RH tires + your load * rim width subtracted from tubeless
equation/riding surface+ knobs per sq inch = your ideal pressure)
I have never heard anything but good reports on the RH knobbies, so I would
think there is a sweet spot somewhere, where is Jan?

2019-03-23 Thread Saturday Mark
Well, if you spend $$ (maybe 400-500ish at Waterford) to get it refinished
you have a frame that would be $3000 to buy.

I would think that someone that wants the benfit of the S and 26" wheels
(to fit into case easily) that 1500 would be a fair all around ;) price!

Perhaps I value these inanimate objects too much...

Hi Steve,
Saturday Cycles in SLC has an 'almost' used Betty Foy for sale. Sold it and
due to unfortunate circumstance we got it back after being ridden perhaps a
hundred or 3 miles. Bike as new. Built with dirt drop and albatross,
typical Riv type kit with Sugino triple, Shimano bar ends 9spd, Berthoud
fenders.

New price was $2600. Looking to get 2000 or best reasonable offer.

I can gather pics for you.

[RBW] Re: Front derailer for 48-38-24: Shimano, Campy, IRD?

2011-05-08 Thread Saturday Mark
The IRD triple is great, however it has been out of stock for quite
some time. Good luck finding one.

The current Tiagra triple seems to work fine. Other than that you are
probably going to have to scour Ebay and Craigslist...

[RBW] Re: Looking for good routes in CO, CA, UT

2010-12-20 Thread Saturday Mark
St George Utah sports several great rides right out of town. Weather
there can be Cali like in winter. Check in with Red Rock Cycles in St
George for pointers when you arrive. They don't deal Rivendell, but
great group of guys.

a trail? I'll be pretty busy but am hoping to be able to get away from
the holiday craziness for a couple of hours a day.

 Thanks!

amount of quill showing.. either way.

the adjustable zoom that is on here sucks!  Can not get it tight enough to
not move up and down on the ratchet.

 Ideas?

[RBW] Re: Which Rivendell bike?

See inserted comments.I think it's about even between the 2 basic
choices.

Which Rivendell bike would you choose for the following:

Approx 3500 acres of Hardwoods and pastures, very hilly with ridges and
bottoms (Hunq/Bomb). Surrounded by asphalt gravel and dirt roads
 (Hillbourne). Horse trails.(Hillborne)
Dowhhill to the bottoms from normal starting point(Hunq/Bomb). Long uphill
 treck
(~ 1 mile) through pastures back(Hillborne/Betty, as you might need to get
on/off a lot in 'pastures'). Dirt road travels to the bottoms(Hillborne) so
you can cross a shallow (~ 1 foot +/-) creek(Hunq/Bomb) and pedal uphill on
 the
dirt road(Hunq/Bomb) then to asphalt the long way around (4-5 miles)
 back(Rodeo). A few
steep hills from the bottoms to the tops of ridges (I would probably
have to walk the bike up these but going downhill would be fun).(Hunq/Bomb)

 Thoughts? Recommendations?

[RBW] Re: Looking for Small Part for Non-Aero Brake Levers

JB Importers part number for this widget is 1421. Most shops have a JB

This probably won't make sense to anyone except those who are familiar

I have a set of the older Shimano 600 non-aero brake levers (the ones
with the holes in the levers).  But it seems I have lost the little
piece of metal stop that fits under the hood, where the non-aero cable
would sit on.  This is a vaguely cone-shaped small ferrule (for lack
of a better word) that sits on the tip of the brake lever body, which
is then covered by the hood.  Without this piece, the cable just falls
  into empty space.

Anyhow, if anyone knows what I'm talking about, and has a suggestion
on a hack that would do the job (keep the housing in place), pls let
  me know.

[RBW] Re: MB Sizing Question

2010-05-10 Thread Saturday Mark
That bike is a 19. This would be too big for you if you want it set
up as a stock bike, however if you plan on Albatross-izing it into a
city bike, it might work OK(maybe better than OK).

This bike would have a standover around 76cm, so you could ride it
safely.

Just my $0.02

[RBW] Re: Trade: pristine B17 for a classic Flite or Turbo or San Marco Concours

I have a Concor Lite new never mounted that I would trade for your
B17.

I've tried it for a couple of hundred miles and while the b17 that came

it is still too obtrusive for my personal pants yabbies and I shall replace
it with something better. Nice, honey brown, no scratches or discoloration.
I don't know how many miles Sam Hill testers put on it at and around Riv Wld
HQ, but I've not yet put quite 100 miles on it.

Flite must be classic and pretty much as new; ditto for Turbo: no flash
 versions.

Will also grudgingly entertain offers to buy.

 Thanks.

[RBW] Re: Heron may rise again!

2010-04-07 Thread Saturday Mark
This is interesting. I chatted with Richard Schwinn about this last
year, and he told me about this Bicycle Classics thing. I sent a
couple emails at that time but received no response. ?? The funny
thing is that just this last week, I heard rumors again, and it looks
like Aaron's in Seattle is also advertising that they are resurrecting
Heron. www.rideyourbike.com/heron.html ???

Sort of like Where is Waldo ...

Right column, six paragraphs from the bottom.  Brief blurb, but it

Classics may be taking over production of the Heron bicycle which has

 production.

I hope this is correct. Herons, whether made by Riv or Todd have
always been great, sensible bikes for the money.  Bicycle Classics is
a nice operation.  Greg (the proprietor) is a great and honest person
who knows a lot about bikes.

Only thing is maybe instead of Heron Greg should call it the Phoenix!
