Re: [RBW] Atlantis 55 for sale

2024-06-11 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
Bump and price drop.
Frame and fork for *$1300*. I can also sell the complete bike. We can
negotiate the price depending on wheel set. The bike is available in
Danville, CA for test rides/local pick up. Shipping can be arranged through
a local bike shop.

Thanks for looking .

[RBW] 2019 55 CM Atlantis for Sale

2024-05-23 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
Folks,
A week ago I put the frame only for sale to see if I could fund a Sam.
Fortunately another bike has come my way and I am selling the entire bike.
It is in excellent condition and may be minor scratches barely visible to
naked eyes. I could spot only one and my camera had tough time focusing on
it!

Its been built with premium components , Paul levers, Moto lite , Paul
skewers. It has quill wheels with onyx hub built by Rich. I can't recommend
these hubs enough!. The brooks b68 saddle on it is brand new (less than 10
miles ). Everything on bike can go except for bells and lights .

I am asking $3500 and buyer can arrange shipping with a local bike shop. I
believe this is a great deal. I am based out of east bay and would prefer
local sale.

Links to the photo below.

Let me know if you have any questions.

[RBW] TRP RRL vs Shimano Tiagra

2024-05-17 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
Folks,
Want to give drop bars one more time on my homer.

Long background and context , I had drop bars set up TRP RRL but never got
comfortable . But I think it had do more with the reach. I had around set
back and 7 cm stem . Also I have short torso and long legs. I am 5'8.5 but
have pbh of 86.5 . Out of curosity I tried Knee over pedal spindle with
plumb bob. On my homer I had to set it up with zero set back and push
saddle forward. ( interestingly same thing on my Atlantis translates to
around 20 mm set back , didn't realize .5 degree change in seat tube could
make such difference ). More importantly with this saddle position it
feels like my reach has significantly increased. I can comfortably reach 6
-7 cm beyond hooks of albatross set up on 100 mm Nitto faceplater. So I am
thinking of trying 52 cm noodles with 7cm stem.

I like aesthetics of Shimano better than RRL . So folks who have used both?
Is there a difference in performance and comfort , to make the upgrade
worth it. Also looks like ramps on RRL are longer, does it add to the
reach? . My priority is in the following order 1. Comfort 2. Braking
performance 3. Asthetics 4. Price.

I would really appreciate your experience and insights. Happy weekend !

This is what is remaining. I have further reduced price on few items.

Handlebars

   1. Nitto Bosco - 55 CM CroMo : $50 (Installed and used less than 10
   miles)
   2. Nitto Losco - 54 CM * 25.4: $80 (Installed and used less than 50
   miles)
   3. Passchier Gump Bambo - 760 *31.8 : $180 Installed and used less
than 10 miles) - very nice and comfy , really absorbs tiny vibrations of
road but the sweep didn’t work for me. I have realized I like sweeps
similar to choco. Read bike snobs review here (
   https://bikesnobnyc.com/2022/01/13/bamboo-you/)
   4. Nitto Choco Moose - $160 : (Installed and used less than 50 miles).
Currently on my Atlantis. I love this ! And what actually introduced me to
Choco which I think I really like, but doesn’t work with my stem bag. Using
the funds from sale to switch to regular Choco
   5. Nitto M151 46 * 26.0 - $50: Functionally similar to Noodle but
shorter reach. (installed and used less than 50 miles)

Wow thanks for the detailed response Max!
I am still on the fence with dyno and lights ; along with that , seat post
(may be Thompson masterpiece ) and cassette I think I can shave off
another 2lbs without sacrificing on comfort/utility. But still debating
about it.

Bingo! Well said. I think what I am chasing is the handling or response on
my homer. The actual weight I don't really care much.

Thanks Steve. I really don't care about speed , I think the speed
difference between my homer and atlantis at my level of fitness is probably
0.5 miles / hr :P . I like the nimble handling of homer and super stable
/smooth feeling of atlantis (depending on my mood )

Thanks Brendonoid. I agree! Brooks saddle, brass bell and kickstands makes
the bike so much more fun and useful. Though I am not using the dyno nmuch

Thanks Roberta. That was a very interesting read. How convinent are those
kick stands?

PS: I have choco moose on my Atlantis. I love them! It introduced me to
chocos and I think they are my # favorites right now. But I am thinking of
swapping to regular chocos as they dont play well with my stem bag.

like. The price doesn’t include shipping. I am based out of *Danville, CA*

scuff from install and bar tape residue that I can clean up before
shipping. Happy to send photos if interested, PM me

[RBW] Homer 6 months review and questions

2022-07-25 Thread atreya...@gmail.com

I have had my homer for 6 months . After lot of experimenting , obsessing
qnd tweaking i am almost 99% there ( in the process I have a mini nitto
shop with almost all variations of handlebars !which I will try to find a
good home for when I get to it ) . The more I tweak and better it
gets, more I obsesss , funny how that works !

I love this bike ! It is super comfortable but yet super responsive in
handling . I am invariably smiling and instantly in a good mood every time
I ride it even if just for 10 minutes!

It feels super nimble and responsive compared to my Atlantis ( which is my
first love and forever bike for different reasons ) and want to further
differentiate between the two .So this brings me to my question

   1. Compared to my Atlantis it weighs just 4 lbs less (28 vs 32 ) . How
much of this handling difference is due to weight compared geometry and
tubing stiffness ? I am also pretty light weight between 160-165 lbs so
might be little more sensitive to weight changes on bike .
   2. If it’s weight ? Is it worth to chase some more weight savings ? I
want to set it up as lightweight go around town for fun type of bike while
Atlantis would do longer touring/hauling , trails etc. I am surprised when
I see numbers close to 25lb or under . I have no racks or fenders , so
where can those weight saving come from ? I am not willing to sacrifice
comfort ( pedals and leather saddle ) and definitely not my kick stand :-)
. Below is my current set up

Size : 54.5

Wheels : pacenti brevet with son28 dynamo and

Tires : RH squanomie pass standard (tubeless)

Shimano hub ( I have realized the use case for dynamo for my riding is
pretty limited so wouldn’t mind losing it ) .

Crank : silver cranks 42-28

Brake set up : Paul racers and canti levers

Cock pit : albatross bar , nitto talux stem .

Appreciate your thoughts !

[RBW] FS: Berthoud saddles, Lugged seat post and Nitto Stem

2022-04-27 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
I am selling few stuff from my parts bin. The price quoted below excludes
shipping. I am based out of Danville, CA (east bay) and open to pick up as
well.

1. Berthoud Aravis Saddle (Titanium rails) - $200
Have used it for around 600 miles. Still not totally broken in / conformed
.Please see attached photos.

2. Berthoud Aravis/Aspin Cut out top in brow - $80
Used for less than 50 miles

3. Rivendell Lugged Seat Post - $100
Used for 6 months. Please note that the post has been knurled to prevent
seat post slipping. Fun fact : It was knurled by Grant himself when I was
at HQ :)

4. Losco handle bar 54 * 25.4 - $80
Used for <20 miles. Has some residue from bar tape (which I can clean up if
requested)

5. Bosco Bar Cromo 55 *25.4 - $50
Used for < 20 miles.

[RBW] Surly corner bars on rivbike

2022-04-09 Thread atreya...@gmail.com

Has anyone tried surly corner bars on homers . Currently I am running Paul
racers center pull on my homer with trp rrl sr. The braking is good but not
as grabby as my v brakes on Atlantis . Would using mountain bike brake
levers like Paul canti with Paul racers make a difference in feel?

[RBW] Drop bar - Fit question

2022-03-03 Thread atreya...@gmail.com

Group , need your thoughts on drop bar fit . I recently bought homer Hilsen
( most recent batch ) . I have short torso but long legs and arms . My
height is 5’8.5 ish and pbh is 86.5. I have homer in 54.5 , which has tt of
57.5. I am running a short stem 50mm and nitto m151(75 mm reach) . I am
also using nitto lugged seat post , which I understand has a lot of set
back. The reach seems to be working fine , however I do find my hamstrings
are getting taxed way more than I like compared to my quads especially on
climbs in the saddle . My understanding is that homer has a slack seat tube
angle of 71.5. Will running a zero set back seatpost help ? Has anybody run
zero setback posts on rivs. I understand that general recommendation is to
have more set back .

[RBW] Re: Bar end vs Downtube

2021-12-25 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
Thanks so much for all the inputs . It was very helpful. I will start of
with downtube for front and bar end for rear, so that I get a feel for what
works and a later point convert if need be . I am planning to route cable
housing for barends outside the handle bar wrap , may be secure it using
twine . I am also doing non aero brake levers ; so this should save me from
re-wrapping while I settle on final configuration.

Thanks,
Deepak

Thanks everyone one for the suggestions. I have yellow + amber on my

[RBW] Bar tape and shellac combination to match cream details

2021-12-17 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
Has anyone tried cloth bar tape and shellac combination to get close to the
cream details on Rivendell. I am thinking of these two options

1. White + Clear shellac : I am assuming that clear shellac will slightly
tint the white
2. Viva toshi off-white tape + clear shellac.

Has anyone tried any of these combinations? What was the result ? If you
have pics would be great !

Thanks,
Deepak

Re: [RBW] Re: Great Blue Homers

2021-11-30 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
Hi Liang,
Have you considered Pacenti Brevet? I also pre-ordered homer and Rich
recommended them to me. I am going to set it up tubeless with 48 mm RH
Oracle Ridge.

[RBW] Re: Wheel size on MIT Homer 58

2021-11-29 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
Thanks so much for the response folks. My original was delayed in showing
up. After the new update I was sized at 54.5. Pre-ordered one and I am
super excited. Now comes the tough but fun part of waiting for the frame
and obsessing over the components !

[RBW] Wheel size on MIT Homer 58

2021-11-29 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
Does anyone know if the wheel size on 58 homers 700C or 650B? The homer
webpage on rivbike states 700 but geometry chart seems to suggest 650b . I
think the geometry chart might be outdated but just wanted to confirm .

[RBW] Re: Weird (Silver bar end/friction/Shimano 9sp) shifting issue

2021-11-29 Thread atreya...@gmail.com
I would also check the tension the D-ring . I typically start tightening
all the way , put the shifter under max tension and start loosening it
until it barely holds it in that position. I have found that this gives me
the right balance of tension.
