[RBW] Re: Bleriot bb width with Sugino XD2 triple?

2013-08-05 Thread kmcmoobud
I had a 107 on mine and the clearance was super tight, but it worked. I
just swapped it out for a 110 and I am much more comfortable with the
spacing.

[RBW] Re: New Atlantis Build

2013-08-03 Thread kmcmoobud
Zack-

My gravity rack does not have to only rely on gravity--it rests against a
brick platform were a coal furnace used to live. I don't think I would
feel comfortable with it only resting on a hardwood floor. See what I mean
here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/surlybvisits/9433613852/

We built this storage system awhile back and it works well in a fairly
small space:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/surlybvisits/9433616274/in/photostream/ It
currently holds four bikes--I think I could fit another if I rearranged the
hook spacing. I got the idea from this post:
http://www.instructables.com/id/simple-bike-storage-rack-for-many-bikes-in-small-a/

Despite the rack systems I have available, my basement most often looks
like this:

How do you like that gravity rack that you are using for the wall of
rivs? I just moved to smaller apartment and am not sure what to do about
bike storage, and have seen these get decent reviews. Please let me know
 if you like it!

[RBW] Re: New Atlantis Build

2013-07-31 Thread kmcmoobud
Doug,

The tires are 26x1.6. I advocated for fatter tires to start with, but I
lost that one!

We'll be sure to post a review of the H-Bars after some longer rides.
Weather permitting, the bike is going fishing this weekend so we'll get a
chance to see how it handles the fire roads.

Do you have fenders on your Atlantis? If so, what are you using?

Thanks!

[RBW] Re: New Atlantis Build

2013-07-31 Thread kmcmoobud
Thanks, Ian. I'm pretty happy with it!

The brakes are Velo Orange Grand Cru Zestes. I had them on my Surly Cross
Check for a year or so and just picked up a pair of used Pauls so I moved
them to the Atlantis to save a few bucks, and I think they look better on
the A. I've been out on several fully loaded tours and they work well.

[RBW] Two Rivs Out of 400+ Bikes

2013-03-19 Thread kmcmoobud
Yesterday, about 400 green-clad bikers took to Asheville's streets for the
Annual Asheville on Bikes http://ashevilleonbikes.com/ Bike of the Irish.
Sadly, only two Rivs made an appearance--mine and another belonging to
fellow RBW Owners Bunch member, Gary Landwirth. There were a few
Bridgestone bikes scattered throughout the group, including
an original owner orange XO-1--the owner of bought me a beer at the end of
the ride because I appropriately admired the beauty of his bike.

[RBW] Portland Travel

2012-07-06 Thread kmcmoobud
Hi--

If all goes well, I will be visiting Portland for the first time to
attend a bicycle planning workshop at Portland State University's
Institute for Bicycle and Pedestrian Innovation in late August. I
plan to arrive a few days early with my bike in tow. I will have to
get me and my bike from the airport to my hotel. Is anyone from
Portland willing to email me off the list to help me work through some
of the logistics? I'm also considering bike rental, so feedback on
this would also be helpful.

Thanks,
