Re: [RBW] Bike Crank Question

2015-06-03 Thread Eric Norris
In my experience, it’s often cheaper to buy the entire crankset than to buy the
spider/arms separately if you’re looking for new stuff.

Rivendell doesn’t sell the parts separately, so let’s use Velo Orange as an
example: On their web site, you can buy an entire Grand Cru triple crankset for
$200. A set of three chainrings, purchased individually on their site, would
cost $145.

Others have suggested seeing if anyone on the list has used parts that they’ll
sell. I’ve had very good luck on the list, including a three-party swap of
spiders and rings that left everyone with the parts they needed.

no, you can swap the rings to shorter arms provided all else is compatible

I'm now 6 months out from a partial knee replacement. You aren't going
to be riding that bike for the first 3 months anyway (doctors' orders
not to, if you fell it would be a catastrophe) and by that time,
provided you have done the therapy you'll have plenty of range of
motion. That's not to say you might not benefit from short cranks
because you have short legs.

[RBW] Bike Crank Question

2015-06-03 Thread Philip Williamson
Yep. You can buy shorter crank arms, but it might be cheaper to get the whole
set. Installation is faster to swap cranks than to move rings over and install
cranks.
Are you looking for 165mm cranks? Or shorter?

Good luck with the knee surgery!
