[RBW] Re: Adding Seatpost QR to Riv

2019-10-23 Thread lambbo
I've been passively wondering about this for ages - it would be SO nice to
be able to pop out the seat post in the city, instead of keeping it on with
an anti-theft mechanism.

Boulder Bicycle has a bunch of NOS Campagnolo seatpost quick releases for
about $12 each. Look like they might work.

Many Riv demo bikes have QR skewers for the seat. Ask them.

[RBW] Re: Adding Seatpost QR to Riv

2019-10-23 Thread Garth

The QR that Riv uses are not anything special, I asked. They clamp
on/over each side in total. The hex bolt space doesn't get filled in, so if
perfect paint is your thing this is not for you as it's gonna get scuffed.

I'd get a steel one myself, like this :

Interesting. Would definitely want to fill the hex bolt space to avoid
effin up the paint.

Guess a trip to the hardware store is in the near future.

[RBW] Re: Adding Seatpost QR to Riv

2019-10-23 Thread Clayton.sf
Nah. Those things don't work. I use to tie some string between saddle rails and
seat stays. That made it really easy to find the right height fast after having
lowered the post. But then I got lazy and just high-posted it. Now the mtb has
a dropper and I use it all the time, so I am thinking of giving the manual
dropper another try.

I put the Campy QR binders that Mike Kone sells on an Ebisu and a 1982
Sequoyah. Straight-forward installation, good function, and about as pretty as
a binder bolt can reasonably be expected to look.
