[RBW] Re: Fender install on Riv
Sidepull brakes, right? Older Riv (most all bike/brands actually) road bikes were limited by the short reach calipers of that era. I doubt you'd be able to fit much more than a 25mm tire and 35mm fender. And it is probably not optimized for fender installation (chain/seat stay bridge positioning and drilling for example) like newer models. If you want to fit a fatter tire (and wider fender) a 650b conversion would be your best bet. Fork-crown darumas are giant space-wasters in my opinion, and unnecessarily heavy. My most frustrating fender experiences are all daruma-related. I would rather make a custom L bracket and rivet it directly to the fender than ever use a daruma again. Riveted brackets, though - give you maximum clearance. With plastic SKS fenders, you can easily cut a slot, to mount the bracket through the fender, instead of on top. I think it looks professional and nice, even if you've had to hack everything together. Re: [RBW] Re: Fender install on Riv
I did a similar hack on a AHH since the drauma is so big. I used a flat, rounded head screw (hard to describe) underneath though, it didn't protrude any more than a rivet, which I tried but it snapped over some big bumps. Maybe my riveting skills suck though so you might have better luck. [RBW] Re: Fender install on Riv
I agree that daruma set up is a waste of valuable real estate. Jitensha sells a nice L bracket that I use. To absolutely maximize space between the crown tire, use a dremel to cut a small slot in the fender and mount the L bracket through it with the round heads inside the fender. You will probably want to mount the bracket either in front of or behind the crown, not directly under the crown.
