The Great Divide MTB Trail crosses the Monarch Crest Trail at Marshall Pass
on a dirt road (aka Continental Divide and Colorado Trails at that point).
It is actually a very different experience of that area, as it climbs up a
railroad grade road to the pass and then down the other side to Sargent,
while the CT/CD Monarch Crest approaches along high alpine ridge. Well
worth doing both if you get the chance. Here are photos from both from
previous rides of mine:

Thanks for the typically wonderful photos of typically epic scenery.

You've done phenomenally, Anne! I am sorry I 'm not doing well enough to
join you, as you're just down the road from me. You have some beautiful
territory ahead as you go up and down from passes to ranch country and back
and forth again and again. Water up well before heading up from North Fork
as there's nothing on that ridge and then you are in the uranium super fund
clean up (which is not potable even from before the mining due to natural
uranium content). The train at the CO/NM border is fun to see, and Georgia
O'Keefe's ranch is well worth stopping into near Abiquiu as well. In my
experience, drivers are not used to people on bikes in that area of NM
(including Taos/Santa Fe, but it's been a while since I've tried it. Have a
fantastic rest of your trip!

Patrick

 Hi Riv friends,

I've been having a great time on the Great Divide (Manny, you should so do
this ride!) and now it's time to go home. I'm in Salida Colorado right now.
My riding buddy who joined me in Pinedale WY is being picked up in Abiquiu,
NM, and I'm thinking that's a good place for me to start heading for an
airport or train station. I'm kind of reluctant to ride dry, desolate New
 Mexico alone.

Can any locals give me suggestions on how to get home from Abiquiu? What
would be a good route from Abiquiu to a city?

 --Anne

PS, if you join a southbound friend on the Divide route, don't join them
in Pinedale. You'd be starting the route just as it goes from great to
awful. All parts of the Divide route other than the Great Basin are
 fantastic.

It appears they do provide for bicycles . Hooray ! I just googled: ncrtd
bicycles , and voila' !
