[RBW] Re: IGH Atlantis type bikes was: Tried and LOVED - Silver Bar End Shifters

2009-09-07 Thread Eric Daume
I had a Peregrine for a while. It was nice but not great: it really handled
more like a mountain bike than a road bike, ie, somewhat slowly. I preferred
my Crosscheck in most every way, although the Peregrine was pretty sharp
looking. The disc brakes make setting up racks and fenders kind of fiddly.
It was also quite heavy, just over six pounds for my large frame with the
EBB installed. The fork was close to three.

She just wanted to try it out - and since the bike is being unloved
while I am recovering I figured why not. :)

I think if she wanted something similar we'd take a lng look
at the betty foy (well, with a paint job).

But chances are the next bike purchase for us will be in a few more
years and it'll be a new tandem.

[RBW] Re: IGH Atlantis type bikes was: Tried and LOVED - Silver Bar End Shifters

2009-09-06 Thread RoadieRyan

FWIW another good candidate for an IGH tourer type bike is the
Handsome devil, I am currently running one as a derailleur bike and
love it but I bought it with the idea that eventually when I have a
few more $$$ I will buy a nice fully lugged bike, Riv, and the HD
will be come my IGH townie bike since it has nice Horizontal
dropouts. Anyway after 2+ months of riding I am very pleased with the
frame and at $379 for the frameset it was a good bang for the buck.
Currently they come in 52, 55 and 59 cm.
