Irv Hoffman makes me feel like a wimp and I'm much closer to 50 than he is

[RBW] Re: Most Traveled Rivendell? Pamela Murray’s Betty Foy: 51,845 Miles

2021-03-25 Thread Jason Fuller
Definitely some serious inspiration and a really good new IG follow for
me. I have historically been terrible about bike turnover - I'm always
inspired by (and jealous of) those who've kept a bike for decades, like
many here. I have been selling my bike for a new model way too often, and
as a result have never accumulated any significant mileage on one bike.

That said I am hoping to change all that with my Hillborne and Bombadil.
They're still young in their time with me (18 months and 5 months,
respectively) but I'm already at 3400 km and 1450 km respectively, so I
hope to be well into the five-digits with both in a few years! Tales like
this really help me get there.

I didn't know "who" to attach my reply to, since there are so many awesome
(I just read an article that that is an overused word) riders here. I
admire Pam for her use of Betty Foy for day to day activities instead of
driving, and probably a lot of "just fun miles." The miles just add up. I
know that Patrick is in that group.

For some of the others, as one of my friends would say "UNBELIEVABLE" (but
in a believable way) for the amount of miles. Quite impressive.

For everyone, the joy every ride bike brings outshines the actual number of
logged miles. I do about 1000 miles per year, planning on upping that this
year, but I don't really keep track other than approximations. I smile
every mile.

2021-03-24 Thread Tim Baldwin
This is some good inspiration for riding. Toting that table around is
impressive. I'd like to put that many miles on a bike, I just need to stop
building new ones every couple of years. Easier said than done. I thought
the Atlantis might be the one (probably has around 8,000) but my new Susie
is getting all the miles now. All that aside, I love seeing people ride the
heck out of their bikes.
