down there when I got word that it had already been recovered. It's funny..I 
had no idea what I was going to do when I got there, but everything in my brain

While we're on the subject of bike theft, please keep a look out for my 
Rivish Austro-Daimler Superleicht (picture attached). Stolen from my garage 
(yes, it was locked, but even a stout cable lock is no match for bolt 
cutters) in North Beach, San Francisco, on June 19th. The bike was 
registered at BikeIndex.org, and I filed a police report and posted a 
"stolen!" notice on Craigslist. What I need now is for Brad, Andy, Will, 
Chalida, TR, and every other Bay Area lister to search everywhere. Hey, you 
never know. Thanks!

What story!  I'm so glad you got the bike back.

A Gary Fischer MTB that I had for 10 years recently got stolen at a 
Caltrain station.  I have lot of great memories associated with it (esp of 
taking my son around for many many rides since he was 18 months).  The bike 
was worth $100 tops, but I'm willing to fork out many times that to get 
that bike back!

I'm really happy you got that beautiful bike back.

A lot of folks have asked, so here is the recovery story:

Brad emailed me and my husband, TR, ran down to the spot as soon as I got 
the email which was within 30 min after the email was sent.   When TR 
arrived, he didn't see the bike because in that time, Andy, another biker, 
bought the bike from the woman and called Will at Rivendell who called me 
because we had emailed him that morning!  
My husband was able to meet with Andy, reimburse him and get the bike back.
In that time, a few others who had seen Brad's post contacted me and said 
they were on their way (ONW!) to the location to get the bike back for me!  
It was really an outpouring of support.

I want to address Mark in Beacon's comment.  I agree with you.  I am so 
thrilled to get my bike back, but I also have no hard feelings or ill will 
to those who took my bike and can understand why they took this 
opportunity.  This city is crazy expensive and we are not providing enough 
services for homeless folks.  I am so grateful and understand my privilege 
in being able to have this beautiful bike.

I had a bike stolen 25 years ago and that was very upsetting.  Not because 
it was an expensive and beautiful bike like yours, but because someone had 
the nerve to just take what I had worked so hard to earn.  

Will you be keeping it in your house from now on?Even if you keep it 
locked to an immovable object in your basement, they will be protected from 
onlookers, should they bring a grinder to remove the lock and retake the 
bike.

I read on the iBob forum something about a blue tooth tracking device for 
bikes.  Don't know anything else about it, but might be worth looking into.

Looks to be a straightforward case of Purple With Envy. (Sorry, could not 
help that.)

It appears the bike ended up in a homeless encampment. Is that correct? I 
sympathize with losing a bicycle, but not having a place to live really 
sucks on a whole nuther level. Which is not to say I approve of 
anyone--homeless or otherwise--operating a bike theft ring, if that is 
indeed what is/was going on. Just taking a moment to be grateful I can 
afford to indulge in my bicycle hobby at the moment. I'm super glad this 
beautiful bike was returned to its owner, and so quickly! Chapeau to all 
involved in the rescue!

Bacon FB friendships.  Glad you noticed it and was quick to call it out.
