[RBW] Re: New Greenlantis/ seatpost size?/ crazy pack job
Don't tell anyone but when the seat post on my Bombadil would not fit easily, I took out the brake cylinder hone and enlarged the seat tube a bit. A 27.0 seat post was not an option as I was using the Nitto lugged setback seat post - with my long body and short legs, it was the only way the bike would fit with the Bullmooses that I was using at the time. The seat post is a little smaller than 27.2 so I was taking less than 0.1 mm of tube thickness away at the top of the seat tube. I did a lot of honing and fitting and honing and fitting till I could just get the seat post in deep enough - it is still very, very tight. My Guv'nor also takes a 27.0 and I have another Nitto lugged seat post that would look so right on the Guv'nor, but I haven't taken out the brake hone yet. At least you can get 26.8 seat posts in Nitto S-83 now. I really prefer two bolt seat posts so I can adjust them bit by bit to get the saddle tilt just right - I got spoiled by my Campy two bolt back in 75. [RBW] Re: New Greenlantis/ seatpost size?/ crazy pack job
Yes, correct. It has a seat stay cross bar thing with fender mounts. there is no need for an actual brake bridge, because either canti's or v's dont need that. Atlanti used to have a curved brake cable stop that went across the stays (which i think is what eric was referring to) and a bridge for mounting fenders. now they just have the bridge. > I asked about the cable stop when i ordered, because i specifically didn't want it and was told that it is not standard anymore. i'd imagine that you could add it as a braze on. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Anyone know if the the rear cable brake bridge is an option? For a $2500 stock frame I'd hope so, especially if you'd want to run cantis. I may be mistaken but I get the impression Drew and Eric are only referring to the sometimes extra brazed on canti brake cable hanger/cable stop but not the bridge itself, right? Sounds like they, the very least, used 9/6/9 on the seat tube. [RBW] Re: New Greenlantis/ seatpost size?/ crazy pack job
26.8 on the huge mixte. I'm happy for the extra thickness in the seat tube. Don't force anything! Even seat posts can vary regardless what the size marking says. [RBW] Re: New Greenlantis/ seatpost size?/ crazy pack job
Thicker wall thickness means a smaller hole. All steel seat tubes are 28.6mm outside diameter. Frames thy take a 27.2mm seat post have 0.7mm wall thickness. Frames that take a 26.8mm seatpost have a 0.9mm wall thickness. For a stout, reliable bike like an Atlantis which should last for 50 years, it makes sense. I can confirm what Bill said. Same thing happened to me when I got my hunq in 2016. It needs a 26.8. I wish Riv’s geometry chart had that!
