[RBW] Re: Quickbeam vs Roadeo/Legolas

2018-04-17 Thread Jim M.
I echo Mojo's opinion from riding my QB and Legolas. QB is an extremely
comfortable bike, handles well, and is stout enough for a load. Leg' is a
race bike, and what I find to be nimble handling, other riders occasionally
call too active. I wouldn't put too much of a load on a Legolas. I've been
able to ride Roadeos too, and they feel a lot like a Legolas. I notice the
slightly lower bottom bracket height, but I don't think that's better or
worse.

[RBW] Re: Quickbeam vs Roadeo/Legolas

2018-04-17 Thread Deacon Patrick
Quickbeam Hunqabeam here, so not what you’re asking about, but I’ve been
fascinated by similarities and differences as I ride Shadowfax (my Hunqabeam)
after riding the Quickbeam exclusively for six months. Much as Jim does, I
ascribed many of the differences between the then Hunqapillar and QB to
drivetrain deltas. Now, drivetrain is identical between, as are handlebar/stem.
The only differences between them are geometry, tubing, and tire width (38mm
knobbie vs. 2.1” knobbie).

Similarities: quinticential Rivendell smooth, stable ride and easy yet
responsive handling.
Differences: Shadowfax rolls over rocks and roots and even smooths out
washboard better, yet I felt the tire inertia for the first ride or so (now
it’s invisible to me). Shadowfax is more comfortable on the rough stuff and
with a load. Quickbeam is spritely and geared higher. Interestingly, my ride
times in the 71” QB and the 61” Shadowfax are nearly identical (though I donb’t
time things to the second — they are within a minute or so of each other). I
had thought Shadowfax would be my loaded bike, QB my dayload bike. It’s not
going to be that simple, and that’s a fantastic “problem” to have! Grin.

With abandon,
Patrick

[RBW] Re: Quickbeam vs Roadeo/Legolas

2018-04-17 Thread Cyclofiend Jim
Quickbeam and Hilsen combo here.

When I go from QB to Hilsen, there's a subtle difference which I often
ascribe to the shifty bits (and wheelset differences).

But then when I shift back to the QB (like this past weekend), it reminds
me how much I really love the way that bike rides. They are set up quite
similarly, but the QB always seems a bit more spritely for me.

Maybe the Hilsen is an early Range Rover and the QB more like those early
Ford Broncos? I'd trust either to get me home over any terrain. But, I'm
going to drive 'em differently.

I've ridden the Roadeo a few times when visiting RBWHQ&L and would say that
I get much the same feeling on that model - more QB like - even though it's
never been set up exactly the way I would have it if I owned one.

If you have access to a telephone, a Legolas is just a phone call away. Mark or
Roman would be the guys to consult.

Man, now I really want a Legolas. Good thing they're as rare as the Elvish

[RBW] Re: Quickbeam vs Roadeo/Legolas

2018-04-17 Thread John G.
Thank you, Joe! Maybe it’s because an Atlantis is my reference point, but I
always felt the QB was pretty lively. Great to know that the Legolas is even
sportier.

Outstanding Legolas, btw.

Roadeo owners: any comments?

2018-04-16 Thread 'Mojo' via RBW Owners Bunch
John,

I have a Quickbeam and Legolas and they are very different bikes.

The Q is fun as you describe, but it behaves like the touring bike it is.
The tubing is stout and feels it. Visually the lugs are understated and the
paint is tough and relatively thick.

The Legolas on the other hand is a racing bike with lighter tubes. The bike
jumps with any input. It climbs wonderfully. Visually the lugs are fanciful
and the paint enhances them. It is not up to a Joe Bell paint job that I
have on another bike, but it approaches.

If memory serves, the handling was similar but I have long since changed
the Legolas to low trail.
