Good to know about these shorts. They're the same price as MUSAs and seem
to be more the fit that I want.

For shirts, I picked up two of these last year on sale and they've been
good. I wish the color would button down but otherwise they're great.

[RBW] Re: Riv MUSA shorts compared to Patagonia baggies?

2013-06-16 Thread Matthew J
I hate wearing sun screen thus knickers are by far the preferred choice
over shorts.

MUSA knickers are very good. Wish they came in lighter colors. Patagonia
does not sell knickers but every year comes out with some iteration of a
light weight mid-calf climbing short:

http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/mens-rock-craft-capris-22-inch?p=58245-0-759

(this year's version already sold out in 33, blast!). Hard to say I really
have a preference between the two. Both move easy and are comfortable on
long rides. MUSA have reflective strips so would be my preference after
dark.

Swrve makes some very nice light weight knickers which I prefer over both
the MUSA and Patagonia. Swrve wear better for me and the pockets hold more
things while keeping them out of the way.

2013-06-16 Thread Garth

The latest Gi shorts are downright ... odd ! Haver you tried them ? They
have shortened the front and back rise so much that I found them
unwearable. There is nothing stranger than having long inseams and a low
rise waist . I've worn Patagonia stuff since the 80's , but lately
they've gone wacko in some of their cuts of clothing !

2013-06-16 Thread Mike Schiller
I'll have to pick up a pair of the Patagonia Rockcraft knickers. I have a
pair of their shorts and they are really well made. I also just got a pair
of Outdoor Research Contour shorts and they work really well too. I use
Kuhl Renegade shorts as well.
I like using shorts like this, which are designed for rock climbing.
Bombproof fabric and stretchy too.

Thanks for the replies. I love my Boures but sometimes I just don't want bike
shorts. I think I'll pick up a pair of the MUSAs.

[RBW] Re: Riv MUSA shorts compared to Patagonia baggies?

2013-06-15 Thread Garth
One thing to be aware of is the MUSA shorts use an elastic belt, not a
static(non stretching) one. This may or may not matter to you. For me it
was a no-go as I prefer a non stretching belt, or in the case of the
Baggies, a non stretching drawcord.

My favorite shorts for riding all time are Ex Officio Amphi shorts, though
now discontinued.(what were they thinking ?!!) No problem, I have a bunch
of them ! Cut out the inner brief and they're good to go. The closest I've
found are Outdoor Research's Equinox shorts. They also have a gusseted
crotch like the EO, and the peach finished nylon is very supple. Some of my
EO shorts feel like silk, the nylon is/was that good in some years.

You know they come with a switch that turns the elastic off, right? You
switch out the belt for a non-elastic one. Elastic off, non-stretchie one
on. Grin.

With abandon,
Patrick

While I wish the MUSAs were a tad longer and not quite as baggy, they're
without a doubt my favorite shorts for riding in hot weather. They're great
for touring. Super comfortable, fairly durable and no one will mistake your
for a racer in them. They're also great for hiking and just hanging out.
