It's a 1997 Road Standard, so it's kind of a generation 1.5 frame. The

2015-08-25 Thread Ron Mc
if you search jimmy carter on the forum you will get 11 threads that go
back to '07. I believe they have more than one Rivendell, Custom and
Atlantis (I could be wrong about that).
Grant spoke up once on the forum essentially about the pleasant experience
of selling bikes to the Carters.
Mr Carter also has some nice fly rods. This one made by Bill Oyster.

http://www.oysterbamboo.com/images/Reel_Seat_-512x355.jpg

http://www.oysterbamboo.com/files/carter_collage3.pdf

When I met Bill Oyster, he offered a guide grade cane rod for $700, and he
had just finished Mr Carter's rod. Like a dummy, I didn't order one. His
time is in such demand now, the least expensive rod grade he will make
costs $2400 and waiting list is 3 years.

2015-08-24 Thread 'Chris Lampe 2' via RBW Owners Bunch
I agree that Dave's AHH is a fantastic color. If I remember correctly,
that frameset was ordered with custom painting to be burnt orange and
there was some error/misunderstanding that led to the frame being painted a
color the buyer didn't want so RBW had another frame painted and Dave
snagged this one. I believe it was a Grant blug post and I believe he
referred to the color as root beer-like.Looks good, whatever they
call it.

I thought one model had a red. I think they favor the creamy shades.
I know, they tend to favor blues/greys from their recent blugs.

I want to have my 1988 Panasonic Schwinn Voyageur painted in RED, and
would like to know what if any shade Riv used in the past. I was favoring
the 1970's Schwinn Opaque Red (non-metallic).

The frame is the original Emerald Green, which is not high on
favorites. However, the paint has held up very good considering the 25
years. Schwinn was using a clearcoat at that time, which may have helped.
Keeping it indoors (garage, shed) and not in a parking lot, like a car,
 probably also helps the paint.

[RBW] Re: Rivendell Red

2015-08-23 Thread Surlyprof
It was driving me crazy trying to remember where I had seen a red Atlantis!
I've also always liked Dave's Homer. I've never seen it in person but the
photo looked like a warm, metallic
red. http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/staff1.htm

Did Rivendell ever use a shade of RED on their standard models??? If so
can anyone provide a photo or a link to an article, reader, etc describing
 or showing it?
I thought one model had a red. I think they favor the creamy shades. I
know, they tend to favor blues/greys from their recent blugs.

I want to have my 1988 Panasonic Schwinn Voyageur painted in RED, and
would like to know what if any shade Riv used in the past. I was favoring
the 1970's Schwinn Opaque Red (non-metallic).

The frame is the original Emerald Green, which is not high on favorites.
However, the paint has held up very good considering the 25 years. Schwinn
was using a clearcoat at that time, which may have helped. Keeping it
indoors (garage, shed) and not in a parking lot, like a car, probably also
 helps the paint.

 TIA.
